Chapter 4- Accident- Not

It was night time by the time we got out from the ice cream shop. Chase dropped Nicole off at her house first and of course she sucked Chase's face off on her door step while I sat inside the truck pretending to read messages trying to look busy. I was surprised Chase still had his face when he got in the truck and buckled in.

"Did you see that?" he asked with a sheepish smile.

"See what? Oh! You mean getting your face sucked off? No thanks, I wanted to keep my ice cream in," I responded in a sarcastic, playful tone, making sure to mask my hurt feelings. Whether Chase had a girlfriend or not, it wasn't supposed to bother me. He and I were best friends, and I feared that it would always stay that way, but there was nothing I could do that wouldn't affect our friendship.

He let out that throaty laugh of his as he started the truck.

"Aww, is poor, Adri jealous?" Chase asked in a baby voice as he turned on the radio. How does he know? Did I say something out loud? Gosh I tend to do that sometimes.

"You know I was kidding right?" Chase snapped me out of my thoughts. I let out a quiet sigh of relief and a small laugh.

"Of course I know, I was just distracted that's all," I covered.

"Is it because of him?..." Chase asked, almost a whisper.

"No, Chase. I got over him don't worry," I replied with a sigh.

"Then why don't you date anymore? He was your first boyfriend and I think you should give it another shot with someone else," Chase said as he pulled out the driveway.

"It's complicated," was my only reply.

"Adri, you're the most kind-hearted, beautiful girl, inside-out, I have ever met. It doesn't take someone with eyes to see that. Any guy would be lucky enough to have you," I almost kissed him as his words left his lips.

"Chase, not everyone knows me the way you do. I don't think I can date anymore, it's for more reasons than you think."

"Adrianna, you have no idea how many guys I've secretly scared off because they tried to get at you, not in a bad way, but I know you wanted space. Why don't you find someone who you believe is right for you?"

Because you're already taken and because you're my best friend who only sees me as a sister.

"You know what? Just tell me who you're interested in, even if it's just a little."

You.

"No one," was my blunt answer. Chase sighed.

"Okay, I won't push you either. Just promise me that you'll tell me who the first person you lay your eyes on is please."

It's you, stupid! How could you be so oblivious when all the signs point to you?!

"I promise," with my last answer, he smiled and gave me a small nod.

Chase parked in his driveway and got out of his truck as he cut the engine off.

"Good night, Chase," I said as I started walking towards my house. I felt a grip on my wrist and I'm pulled back into a warm, hard chest.

"What? No goodnight hug, sunshine?" Chase asked with a playful smile. My heart fluttered in my chest, I swore I felt it skip a beat. I gave him a huge smile as I wrapped my arms around his torso and laid my head on his chest. I felt him rest his chin on my head and his arms wrap around the back of my shoulders and I sighed in content. He pulled away after a few moments of comfortable silence.

"Good night, sunshine," Chase whispered as he kissed my forehead and walked towards his front door step. I felt like a dumbstruck, teenage girl who just got her first kiss as I made my way to my house, the smile in my lips not bothering to leave.

~~**~~

I seriously need to get darker curtains, I thought as I opened my eyes to meet the sun's bright light. I made my usual routine and headed downstairs to find out my parents had gone to work. I heard a knock on the door so I went to see who it was. Chase.

With a huge smile on my face, I opened the door only for it to drop instantly seeing Nicole at his side.

"Morning, Adri," Chase greeted with a smile.

"Morning, Chase," I replied with a small smile.

"Morning,  Adrianna," Nicole greeted with a huge smile plastered on her face.

"Hey, Nicole," I greeted back with a grin.

"We're going to get breakfast, care to join?" Chase asked.

"Yeah. Sounds good," I replied as I turned to lock the door.

Nicole walked beside Chase, leaving me behind walking awkwardly as the third wheel.

"Chase, let's go this way," Nicole said as she stepped on the street to cross over. Suddenly, a car comes out of no where and hits her, making her let out a small piercing scream. Her body rolls all over the car as a loud crunching sound is heard and then landing limp in the middle of the street.

"NICOLE!!" I heard Chase yelling from beside me as he ran towards her body.

"Adri! Call for help!" He yelled. I just stood there. I couldn't move a single muscle, only stare at them in shock.

"ADRI!!" he yelled.

"-dri, Adri," I hear Chase's voice call from beside me. At first it sounded muffled, but slowly it became clearer.

"Earth to Adri," I saw a hand wave in front of my face. My head snapped up to see blue eyes.

"You spaced out for a second there," he said with a small laugh.

"Chase can we hurry? I'm really hungry," Nicole complained from beside me.

Huh.
