Chapter 19- Blonde Hair
I stared at the journal that was burning a hole through my desk. Should I show it to Chase now or read it? As much as I was interested in reading what her life story is, I don't want to be disturbed or be involved in any of her crimes by reading them. Looking out the window to the dark sky, I pondered on about what I should do.
Without waiting any longer, I grabbed the journal, shoved it in my side bag and flew out the door. Would Chase hate me for breaking in and stealing something so important from his girlfriend?
Yes. But at least I would feel better if he knew who his girlfriend really was. I knocked on his door and waited patiently for him to answer.
"Adri," he greeted with a hard face.
"Hey, Chase. Listen, I need to talk to you about-"
"Who's at the door, baby?" Nicole cut me off. She was wearing her hair up in a messy bun. I have to admit, it did good to her.
"It's Adri. She wants to-"
"Chase! Um, I wanted to talk to you in private," my fingers were clutching on to the bag.
"Okay," he nodded and closed the door behind him. He crossed his arms over his chest with that same hard feature
"Is something wrong?" I asked.
He clenched his jaw, "Someone broke into Nicole's place and I don't know why, but I think I know who it was."
I sighed, "Chase, please. If you're still hanging on to our friendship, believe me on this one and meet me at the frozen yogurt place in an hour?"
"This better be worth it," he said. I shot him a small grin in a promise before leaving. The rain started falling and I glared at the sky. It was summer and it was raining. Hadn't rain had enough when it was its turn? I went inside before I got drenched and waited half an hour before going back to my car. Well, it was my dad's, but he lets me use it.
"Okay, Nicole. You are about to get discovered," I grinned. Putting the journal on the passenger seat, I buckled in and started driving in reverse. I turned the windscreen wipers on and drove towards the place where I'd show Chase who Nicole pretended to be.
The roads were now wet and more dangerous than they were before. It was getting cold so I tried turning the heat on, but it was stuck. I darted my eyes towards the road before trying to fix the heater by jiggling the button around.
It started, but when I looked back at the road, a car came by too close. I pressed my foot down hard at the breaks. A loud screeching hit my ears before bright headlights flashed at my right. A sharp pain shot through my right side and glass shattering, sounded all around me. The harsh scrape of metal against concrete filled my ears. The car flipped sideways and my head slammed against the window.
Everything was fuzzy. People were yelling, but it was all the same to me. I felt like I was drenched in something runny and my thoughts were confirmed when all I saw was red. It may have been my state of being that made me hallucinate, but I'm pretty sure I saw a mob of messy, blonde hair before everything was shut off.
