Chapter Twenty
She signed it, I wrote and slid the paper to Mr. Brunner.
Another school day had passed, another pocket of sticky notes collected, except Connor didn't bother me as much today. It was a pretty great day.
Mr. Brunner read the note, spoke it and made signs with each word.
"She," sign. "Signed," another sign. "it," guess what? One more sign! I quickly repeated him just to move the lesson on.
Mr. Brunner kept talking to me, saying basic words and showing me the signs that go to the words. I'll admit, it was almost fun.
The lesson went on for a few hours. By the time it had ended I was extremely tired and ready to leave.
"And that," Mr. Brunner said as he continued to sign, "concludes this lesson." I copied one last set of signs.
After I gave my thanks, I was out of the school. I was running so fast it was an actual flash of movement.
That is, until I ran into something. That something was a very muscular something. Tall with the scent of a summer day.
"Woah." The voice was a very familiar one. "Careful there, Nico."
I gave him an apologetic look before grabbing a piece of paper and pen from my bag. It was strange for a student to stay this late after school. I mean, the lesson had lasted at least an hour.
Why are you still here?
Will took the note and read it. Then smiled at me. "I... uh..." He let out a shaky sigh. "I was waiting for you. You went into the office and I knew you were going to miss the bus to I waited." That was a mouthful. More than I ever spoke.
He handed me the piece of paper back so I could write more.
Why would you wait on me?
This conversation felt like some type of fanfiction. Some horribly written, bad fanfiction. But I was actually living it.
"Uh... you might get hurt walking home alone," Will said. "The sun is setting anyhow." I looked up at he sky. The sun was pretty low.
So... are you coming with me?
"Only if you want!" Will quickly tried to pick up from his indication that he wanted to walk home with me.
I smiled at him, telling him it was okay. I was perfectly fine - no, more than fine - with it. He smiled back.
We started walking in a comfortable silence. I don't know what Will was thinking, but all I could think about was how perfect he seemed. How perfect he was. How kind it was for him to wait for me.
I slowly inched closer to Will. Right until our arms touched when we walked.
And I slid my hand into his. I was very surprised when he didn't pull away. I was even more surprised when his hand squeezed mine.
Now, I had to accept it. No matter how many times I tried to deny it already, it wasn't working. I had to accept the fact...
I was crushing hard on Will Solace.
