chapter two: Home

I dragged you through bushes,
Don't worry, I will heal your bruises.
Tears were warning to spill,
Because I could tell your heart was ill.
I was taking you to a place we both called home,
The place where we held each other and made our vows.
The place where you told me,
Friends don't give up on hope.
So why did you?

I carried you up our tree,
Holding you tight—
As you cried out tears clogging your heart.
I loosened my grips,
And let you lie.
I wiped your tears,
And heard you sigh.
I sang you a song,
And lulled you to sleep.

Your emerald gaze held mine firm,
Your Visage cried questions;
Ones I can't answer now,
So I whispered...

"Hush now,
Muffle those cries.
Wipe away those tears,
You're perfectly fine."
I knew they were lies—
But what could be done.
Once spoken,
They can't be undone.

I cradled your head and spoke again,
"Sadness is no burden, Sophie dear,
You have to deal with it,
Death is not a solution that fits.
Today or tomorrow,
Someone will go through this,
With a heart so hollow.
Empty inside,
Withering in pain,
But don't worry, I'll walk with you through this lane."

She smiled at me,
But it never reached her eyes.
And I fear it won't go up there,
Not for a long time to come.

Do you think Sophie will stay, will she hear her friend out and try to solve her problems without trying to die or will she not.
