Manhattan was a one of a kind city in its own. Many people looked at the whole of New York as a big landmark of the US and a lot of them moved there to fulfill their dreams. Not everyone was that fortunate though as they pursued said goals, because life often got in the way of things. With so much going on, it was no miracle that the news were full of fresh stories about robberies, murder, gang fights and a whole lot more. There were only a few that weren't bothered by these things and one of them sat in a tattoo studio called Venom Ink.
That man was Chris Johnson, a texan who looked for new opportunities in another part of North America. He knew that everything that was going on out there was dangerous, but he was used to danger thanks to his past. What brought him to becoming a tattoo artist was that he had a lot of tattoos himself and wanted to do something creative for the rest of society. After all, not everyone was born with a talent, but everyone was able to reach one. Right now, Chris was sitting in the back of the studio, smoking a cigarette. It was a force of habit at this point to keep him calm and let the young man collect his thoughts about everything.
Chris:" A slow day so far. I had what? About two customers? And a visit from Morgan."
It was true. The day went by quite slow and uneventful for the most part. Not that Chris was against any of it, he had enough work ahead of himself as is and the good thing was that he had a co-worker that took some duties off of his shoulders. Otherwise this job would've cost him endless amounts of nerves already. Speaking of co-workers, in he came: Wade Marger.
Wade:" Hey Chris."
Chris:" Hey Wade. Tomorrow's the big day for you and Abby, huh?"
Wade:" Yup. Our little boy will be born sooner or later and I'm so excited, but also nervous."
Chris:" Take it from a non-parent like me: be there for Abby and the little one. You're a great guy and I'd hate for you to miss the birth of your son."
Wade:" Is that why we closed so early today?"
Chris:" Partially. I asked for that to do you a favor and for myself to relax."
Wade:" Ah I see. To be honest, you look a little beat lately. Is everything alright?"
Chris:" Nothing you need to worry about, Wade. Just a mugger that decided to pick a fight with me. Long story short: he got knocked out."
Smiling and chuckling at that answer, Wade could only shake his head. Ever since getting to know Chris and his past, it was clear to him that things wouldn't stay peaceful for very long. Even now there was something else going on with Chris, but Wade knew that his friend was able to handle it.
Wade:" You're a very particular kind of guy, Chris. No wonder we're having so many new customers."
Chris:" That's not only on me though. You're just as good for business as I am and we both know why."
Wade:" Don't bring up the ad we took part in. It was a one time deal."
Chris:" True, but it got us what we needed. Remember the motto?"
Wade:" Don't stick your dick in crazy?"
Chris:" What?! No, not that one! The other."
Wade:" Ohhh yeah yeah. Time is money."
Chris:" Exactly. Luther would kill us, if we didn't make any profit."
Wade:" Yeah, fortunately he's on vacation until sunday. I don't wanna imagine the stuff he did. Anyways...I'll head off now, Chris."
Chris:" Take care and give my warm regards to your better half, Wade."
Both of them smiled before Wade headed off with his belongings. A tight friendship like this always helped keep up the moral as best as possible, even on bad days. Chris ran a hand through his hair and put out his cigarette before grabbing the newspaper and reading through the first page.
' Robbery at Frick Collection '
The article spoke of a thief, stealing some very valuable paintings at the start of the week. Apparently the police didn't have a lead on the case yet, but the investigation currently continued. Things like that happened all the time, but it felt very strange to Chris that they couldn't find the criminal yet.
Chris:" Cops these days...Unreliable as hell."
(His personal opinion, not mine)
Truth be told, the cops Chris had to deal with this far haven't really been pleasent or helpful. Their reputation as everyday helpers didn't hold true in his opinion, but that was also part of something else. Nonetheless, the ringing of a little bell surprised Chris as he got up and walked to the front.
Chris:" Excuse me, but we're closed."
Upon reaching the front again, Chris was faced with someone he never saw before.
???:" Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt anything, but it just started to rain and I forgot my umbrella. This was the only building that still looked like it was opened."
Chris:" I'm sorry that you had to go through the rain like that. You can take my umbrella for now."
Before Chris could go grab it though, he took another look at the young woman who was shivering from the cold weather. Apparently she wasn't a big fan of rain as she stood close to the heater. Shaking some thoughts from his head, Chris reached around the corner, grabbing the umbrella and then he handed it to the woman.
Chris:" Be sure to stop by and bring it back when the weather is getting better."
???:" Thank you. I will try my best to do so."
Chris:" Good to hear. Also if you wanna book a session, just call. We're here from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday."
???:" Alright, I'll remember that. Goodbye...Mr Johnson."
Chris wasn't even able to reply as the stranger walked out of sight within just a minute. Now this actually was very weird, because there was no way this woman ever met him before. Chris' memory was good most of the time and he would've remembered someone like her immediatly.
Chris:" What's the matter with this day?"

Ladies and Gentlemen,
As you see, we have another new book here and this one is really something even I didn't see coming.
I was dared by my friend Lokis03277 to make this, after I expressed a big interest in his portrayal of Felicia Hardy in his Venom book. Well...look where it got me 😅😜
Anyways, I hope you will enjoy this book as it slowly but surely comes together piece by piece.
Stay cool and stay safe, my friends 🤗
