Chapter Ten: Off the Platform

2/27/15

AN: Sorry, for the lack of updating. I was busy- PROTEGO! OKAY WHO SHOT THAT CURSE AT ME?!

P.O.F.

Albus was anxious. For the past day, he'd been thinking of all the terrible things that could happen this year. What if he got discovered? If anyone from his parent's generation found out who he really was and where he came from... what would the consequences be? His mind kept going back to the subject of Dolores Umbridge, the evil ministry worker. His parents had described the living hell she transformed Hogwarts into, but actually being there was completely different.

His mind accelerated quickly with new thoughts, different outcomes that the year could withhold. But then he thought of something else. Don't I look just like dad? We're the same age right now and I look just like him. Lily looks just like mum. Won't people get suspicious. The day before they left for Hogwarts, he brought this problem to Teddy's attention.

"Don't worry," Teddy said, "we have something worked out."

"Teddy, you do realize that we're not all metamorphamagi like you, right?"

"Of course I realize that. We're just going to alter your appearances slightly. It's slightly advanced magic, but if we suceed, you'll look completlly different. We'll ljust have to be really careful, because there is the consequence that you might be stuck with your new appearance if the spell isn't performed properly.... But I'm sure everything will be fine."

"Well who's going to be performing it?"

"Probably dad," Teddy says. He then notices the confusion on Albus's face, "my dad."

"Oh," Albus says. "What do you think I'm going to look like?"

"Probably make you have light brown or blonde hair or something. Make you look like less Harry."

"Okay," Albus says.

The spell was performed on each of the Potter's and some of the Weasley's who resembled their parents too much that night.

James, who originally had brown eyes and messy black hair, now had chestnut brown hair that looked, still messy, but not compared to what it looked like before. Albus who greatly looked like his father, now had dirty blonde hair that was rather short. They wanted to change his eye color as well, but then decided it was too risky and Albus could end up with a third eye or something.

Lily, who was Ginny's look alike, now had dirty-blonde hair down too her shoulders. She now looked nothing like a Weasley, or Potter. Rose was said to look too much like her mother, so her appearance was changed as well, much too Hermione's pleasure. It was eerie having looking at your unborn daughter who looked just like you.

Rose now had dark curly brown hair, vaguely similar to Roxanne's, but not exact. Everyone else looked the same. Though it was strange seeing their cousins with their alternate looks. It was also a challenge to start calling them by their fake names.

Fred kept walking up to Rose and saying, "Oh hello. My name's Fred Kopkot. Have we met?"

"Go away Fred," Rose would say harshly.

"But- but we just met."

"Shut it!"

"Well someones not in the mood," He would mutter.

"Can you believe it?" Lily said to Roxanne in the kitchen, "We're going to Hogwarts tomorrow. I really don't want to do this."

"I don't want to either," Roxanne said. "But I think it may be interesting to see what the school was like during this time."

"Do you think we're going to be able to join the D.A.?" Lily asks.

"Hermione said for us not too.... But the youngest person in the original D.A. was a third year. I don't think it'll matter that much."

"Be quiet," said Rose next to them. "They may hear you and ask what the heck you're talking about."

Lily ignored her cousin, "I've been thinking about something."

"What?" Roxanne asks.

"What if we're stil at the school by Christmas? We can always warn Gramps about the attack at the place."

"No," Roxanne says. "I see what you're playing at, but it's way too risky."

"I know. But there's so much we can prevent. Even though this whole thing was an accident, we can have good intentions."

"'Good intentions' could end up with us not being born, or even losing the war."

Lily sighed, "Haven't you noticed how much the war has affected out family? Look at your dad. Look how much he's changed."

"I've noticed Lily, and I think it's best not to interfere."

"Why can't we just-"

"No," Roxanne says harshly, cutting her off. "I'm going to bed. It's going to be a very long ride to Hogwarts tomorrow. If you can, try to be in the same compartment as me."

She then walked back to the guest-room. It was going to be a long, difficult year.

James's P.O.V.

I remember dad telling me that the Order went overboard with escorting him to King's Cross, but this was plain ridiculous. Nearly half of the Order was guarding us on the way to the station. I mean, I'm vaguely used to things like this, having an escort or something, but this many Aurors is just stupid.

When we finally found our way to the platform, I still hadn't comprehending what I was getting myself into.

I was going to Hogwarts twenty-five years in the past under the name of Josiah Sanders. Riley and Anthony Sanders were my siblings, and Fred, Roxanne, Rose, and Hugo Kopkot were my cousins. For the past six years I've been attending 'Wholestone School of Witchcraft in Wizardry' in the US. My cousins and siblings were transferring to Hogwarts because of a family crisis.

I think I remember everything. Well, I think I do.

My brain went on autopilot as I boarded the Hogwarts express. Then I realized, who was I going to sit with? I looked behind me, and Fred seemed to be thinking the same thing.

"Er- I guess we just try to find an empty compartment," He suggests.

"I guess. I just can't believe we're actually doing this." I say.

"I feel you," Rose says in front of me. "Though it is all your fault...."

"Are we seriously still on this?" I ask.

"Yes. I don't take these things lightly you know," Rose says. "I'm going to find Lil- Riley and Roxanne. You guys can find your own compartment."

"Rose-" I say, but she spins on her heels and walks off.

"Well, we've got rid of her," Fred says. "What next?"

"Let's go find Fred and George," I say, "there doesn't seem to be any empty compartments left...."

It took us five minutes, but eventually we found Fred and George in a compartment with Lee Jordan. It was strange and a little awkward, but I managed to have a fairly good conversation with Lee. He asked a few questions like, where did I go before Hogwarts and what House I expect to be in, so I just played along.

It was really strange seeing him. I knew that in my own time he was was Head of the Department of Magical Games and Sports for the Ministry, but that's it. As time passed I knew we were getting closer to the castle. I started to get more anxious.

"So," Lee said to Fred and I, "let's assume you do make Gryffindor like you said, there's an opening on the Quidditch team for keeper. Do you think you'll try out?"

"No," James said, "I'm a horrible keeper. I'm a chaser like my mum."

"Like your mum?" George asks, "She doesn't pl- I mean is she a good Quidditch player? You seem pretty confident."

"Yeah, I guess. At my old school, she was a Chaser for the team back in her day. So I guess she's decent."

The twins seemed very surprised by this, but they didn't say anything due to Lee being in the compartment with us. This is going to be a interesting year.

A few hours later, the train eventually pulled into Hogsmeade. Fred and I met up with Albus, Dad, Mum, Neville, Luna, Uncle Ron, and Aunt Hermione once we got off the train.

"First years line up over here, please! All first years to me!" I shrill female voice calls out.

That's strange. Isn't it always Hagrid who brings the first years to the castle? Then I remember, this is the year Hagrid is gone for half the year. Apparently dad seemed to be thinking along the same lines as me.

"Where's Hagrid?" he said.

"I don't know," Mum said, "but we'd better get out of the way, we're blocking the door."

"Oh yeah...."

I shuffled along with the crowd to the carriages. I looked at dad and he seemed to be looking at something bewildered. But there was nothing there. The thestrals. Of course, this is the first year he's able to see them!

What are those things, d'you reckon?" Dad asked Ron, eyes still on the empty space in front of the carriages.

"What things?"

"Those horse-"

"Thestrals," Lily appeared next him, "I can't see them. Not many people can. The only people who can see them have witnessed death."

"Lily!" Roxanne hissed furiously into her ear, "Not now. Not until later remember."

"Yeah er- Riley, not now," I said.

"Shut up," She snapped.

I managed to get on a carriage with everyone from my time, fortunately.

"So, what are we going to do when we get in the hall?" Rose asked, "Wait for the first years to come in?"

"I guess. I mean, it will be horrible to be sorted again granted we're all Gryffindor, though I do think the hat might've made a mistake on placing Al-"

"Shut up James."

"Ah, you know you love me."

"Slytherin isn't looking too bad considering I won't be in the same house as you," I heard him mutter.

I laugh, "He finally admits it!"

"James, seriously," Lily says staring at the castle, "if you keep this up, you'll give us away before you can say Quidditch. Can you just lay it low for now? You know how suspicious Umtoad is."

"Lily, Riley, whatever your name is, chillax-"

"No one has said that for eight years."

"-we can do pretty much whatever we want. Voldemort doesn't reveal himself for another year so we're good."

"Well, what if we're still here in another year?"

"Hadn't thought about that," I admit, "but come on."

Lily sighs, "I hope they're close to finding a solution to getting us out of here."

"Lily, it's not just you," I say, "every one of us want to go back home. But in the meantime...."

I can't hold in my laughs anymore. I start roaring with laughter.

"Sorry," I say, "that was my attempt to act serious. I'm going to have so much fun with this."
