A pained silence fell over the group and we set sail for Neverland. Emma handed Killian the bean and he threw it into the water not that far off. A portal formed and he took hold of the wheel. "So who are we up against? Besides Greg and Tamara" David asked as we sailed, full speed towards the portal.
"They are merely pawns, manipulated by forces far greater than they can conceive" Gold said and I knew that he meant Pan. My stomach felt weird just by thinking about the stab wound he gave me.
"And who's that?" Emma asked.
"Someone we all should fear" he yelled back.
"That's not very helpful" David yelled.
"You really don't want to know" I told them and we sailed through the portal with a final look back at Storybrooke.
The walls of water created by the portal flowed around us. I gripped Killian's arm as he grinned like an idiot. Everyone else was holding onto the rigging for dear life as we passed through. I looked up at the man I loved and he laughed hysterically. "How is this funny in any way?" I asked and he just grinned back.
"What? Never been through a portal before?" he asked "I though you had been through your fair share."
"I was dead for both of them. I never saw the actual portal" I said. Well, yelled. The sound of the rushing water was so loud that we had to yell for anyone to hear us. The portal ride took maybe a minuet and it was over. We popped out of the other end onto a calm sea surrounded by the night. It the far distance I could see the large jungle that made up Neverland and I grimaced.
"You know, Adaline. I'll make sure that he doesn't hurt you" Killian whispered and wrapped his arm around my shoulder while using his hook to steer the ship.
"You said that last time" I muttered.
"I know, but I mean it. You'll be safe. I promise" he said. I smiled and rested my head on his shoulder closing my eyes for a second and I could believe that life was back to the way it once was. But then Emma's voice broke the silence.
"Is that it?" she asked.
"Aye. Neverland" Killian replied and I shivered as a cold streak ran down my spine.
We sailed in silence for a while, I was surprised to find that I had remembered how to sail the Jolly Rodger as if it was something I did everyday. It used to be. As we neared the far side of the island Killian took the wheel and slowed the ship down. Regina spotted it and marched over to us.
"Why are you slowing down?" she asked "In case you didn't know, my son's life is in danger."
"We know, Regina. I care for Henry as well" I said.
"The plan is to bring us to the far side of the island, meet up with the widest part of the river and we can sail right through. Take them by surprise" Killian explained. I raised a eyebrow when he chuckled and shook his head. "The irony" he muttered.
"What irony?" Regina asked.
"Well, I've spent more time than I care to remember trying to leave this place to kill Rumpelstiltskin and find Adaline. Here I am, having only truly achieved one of those things. Now trying to sail back into the cursed place with him as my guest of honor" Killian grumbled and I sighed. I decided to let him moan. Rather do it now than halfway into the island where we need to concentrate. I slipped away and made my way down into the bedroom where I meant to change into clothes that were more suited to trekking through a jungle in. I ended up in one of my old pirating outfits, much like the one that I wore in Storybrooke for the day, only this time my boots were flat and not heeled. As I changed I could hear Killian talking to Regina on deck.
"You know, Greg Mandel said something funny to me. He said I was a villain" Regina told Killian "And that Villains don't get happy endings. Do you believe that?" she asked.
"I hope not. Or we've wasted out lives" Killian replied. Did he think of himself as a villain? "But I guess... if Adaline is good. If she is a hero, does she get a happy ending?" he asked.
"I don't see why not" Regina said.
"Then I hope that her happy ending would be with me, and that would be happy enough for me" Killian said. I nearly cried at hearing him say that.
I pulled my boots on and walked out onto deck, sliding the sword from the bedroom into the sheath on my belt. I stood for a single moment before Gold came up from below decks as well. He was dressed in a new outfit and looked more like the Dark One, how I remembered him. Apart form the fact that his skin wasn't green and horrible. "We'll find Henry" Mary Margaret said to Emma as they were in the middle of an argument but Gold interrupted.
"No you won't" he said.;
"Oh that's a great use of our time" Killian said "A wardrobe change" he muttered sarcastically. I glared at him and he saw that I too had change only he raised an eyebrow and smirked at my choice of outfit.
"I'm going to get Henry" Gold promised as Emma, David and Mary Margaret walked over to join us.
"We agreed to do this together" Regina said carefully.
"Actually, we made no such agreement" Gold told her and Emma pulled a confused face, much like the one everyone else was wearing.
"Why are you doing this?" Emma asked.
"Because I want to succeed" Gold said simply.
"What makes you think I'm going to fail" she snapped and the lantern she held up in her hand flickered as the wind blew around us. It seemed to be picking up and I could feel that something was going to happen.
"Well how could you not?" Gold asked "You don't believe in your parents or in magic not even in yourself."
"I slayed a dragon, I think I believe" Emma snapped at him but he didn't even flinch.
"Only what was shown to you" Gold said and I could hear the snide tone to his voice break through the air. "When have to ever taken a real leap of faith? You know the kind where there is no proof? I've known you for some time Miss Swan, and sadly despite everything you've been through, your still just a bail bonds person. Still looking for evidence. Well, Dearie, that's not going to work in Neverland."
"I do whatever it takes" Emma said and I shook my head at her.
"No, Emma" I spoke up "He's right, again" she looked at me wide eyed but it was more of a glare than shock at my defense of Gold.
"Adaline..." Killian cautioned. For once he was cautioning me, not the other way around.
"How would you know?" Emma asked and I smiled. This was my area of knowledge. She needed to accept that there are placed where others might know more than her.
"I've spent my fair share amount of time in Neverland. But Gold is right. Emma, Neverland runs on the believe of everything and anything, here you can't look for evidence and expect it to work" I said "Trust me, I've tried" I added under my breath.
"As much as I don't like the optimistic pirate, she's right" Gold said and I glared at Gold's back."Our foe is too fearsome for... hand holding. Neverland is a place where imagination runs wild and yours doesn't" he said. I watched at he spun his cane and and vanished into thin air.
