Adaline's POV
I made my way back to my house and curled up on the couch and stared into space. I don't know how long I lay there, but there was a knock at the door and I looked up. Darkness had fallen and I sighed sitting up. I walked over to the door with little enthusiasm. Opening the door I saw Regina on the other side. "Oh. Hi" I said and smiled. I knew she was evil and everything. But she seemed to be changing. Henry said she was anyway.
"Hi, do you... do you mind if we talk?" she asked and I nodded.
"Sure, come in" I said and stepped back opening the door wide enough that she could enter. Shutting the door behind her I walked to the couch again and sat down, this time I pulled my knees up to my chest and watched her carefully.
"Um..." she began and I frowned.
"Regina?" I asked and she looked at me as if she was truly interested in what I was going to say.
"Why do you hate me?" I asked and she shook her head.
"I have never hated you" she said and I frowned dropping my knees and leaning forwards. "But--" I began and she shook her head. "This was what I wanted to say, but I didn't know how to start. I want to change, for Henry" she explained and I nodded but kept silent. I think she just needed someone to listen to her. "So I want to explain my behavior towards you, Adaline..." she said and I frowned sitting up straighter.
I smiled a little "You know my name" I said and she nodded.
"Of course I do" she said.
"You know, only four people know me by that name here" I sighed. I wished more people did, but I didn't want them to know about my 'pirating' past.
"Who?" Regina asked softly. <br>
"You, Henry, Emma if she remembers what Henry told her, but I think she forgot. After all, my tale is not the most interesting, in her mind at least. And Gold..." I said and this time Regina frowned.
"How does Gold know you?" she asked and I shook my head.
"It's a long story" I sighed.
"Please, tell me" she begged and I smiled.
"How about some hot coco?" I asked and she smiled back.
"I like the sound of that" she said.
As I made the coco Regina took her coat off, closed the curtains, light a fire and listened intently to my story. Ten or so minuets later we were sat on the couch sipping our drinks and warming yourself as we spoke. "You must has some magic in you then" Regina said when I fished my story and I shook my head. "I'm not so sure about that. But there is enough" I said and downed the last of my coco and placed the mug on the table.
"There are three things I don't understand at the moment in time" I said after a pause and she raised an eyebrow. "One, how you know my name and who I am. Two, why you hate me so much I have never met you before Storybrooke and I don't recall doing anything to you. Three, why my stomach hurts so much" I said and she frowned.
"Well I can answer two of your three questions. I know who you are because you pirate once tried to kill me. He failed, but he tried. He spoke highly of you" she said and my eyes widened.
"Killian...?" I breathed and she frowned.
"Is that his name?" she asked and I nodded.
"Why?" I asked.
"Everyone else calls him Captain Hook now" she said. I frowned trying to think why, but then I remembered. Neverland. Kissing on the beach. And the hook.
"Oh..." was all I said.
"Question two. Why do I hate you? Like I said before, I don't hate you" Regina began.
"What is it then?" I asked and she smiled sadly.
"Jealousy" she said and I went to question her but she got there first. "I was jealous of everything about you. You have a voice that is more beautiful than a siren. You are so pretty. You are kind. You are the purest of heart, even more so than Snow or her charming. Maybe even Emma. And you have a true love who would search whole world for you" she said and I nearly cried. Again.
I suddenly jumped up and pulled Regina in a hug that shocked her frozen. When I let go she cocked her head to one side. "What was that for?" she asked and I smiled.
"Regina... my life if far from what you believe it to be. Out of curiosity, how did you know all this?" I asked.
"From what I've seen myself. And your life is written in legend. The Impossible girl" she mused.
"Gold called me that the second time we met. He said as long as my heart remains whole, I live forever..." I muttered.
"He missed off a bit" she said and my head snapped up to look at her.
"What?" I asked.
"A whole heart and a true love keeps the impossible girl alive" she said as if she was reciting a well known text.
"Well... I don't know if I have either of those anymore" I said and tears threatened to fall again. She was about to speak, but it was my turn to stop her. "I may be able to sing, but I have never tested it against a siren's. I'm not pretty, I see every imperfection on my skin. I may be kind, but only because I am unable to hate. I don't know how to feel it, my mother took that away from me. I don't even hate Rumpelstiltskin for killing me. I may not like what he did, but Killian... Hook... found me again. I don't have a pure heart, no one does... not even Emma. Everyone has a small part of them that holds a shadow. I have... had... a true love. But he's most likely been killed by his own stupidity, or found someone new. Regina, I've been here for twenty eight years. Knowing that, my heart will never be whole again" I said and I looked at her, she looked like she was going to cry.
She smiled sadly "That's how I felt with Daniel... and without him..." she said. I frowned and thought about it, then remembered the man in the stables who had strangled me.
"Regina, I'm so sorry" I said and I really meant it.
"It's nice... or not... to find someone else who understands my pain" she said and I nodded.
"I understand completely. Please, don't feel jealous of me if you know that pain" I begged and she nodded.
"Adaline, I'm so sorry" she said and I shook my head.
"There is nothing to be sorry for" I smiled and she knew that was my way of forgiving her for all the glares and hate filed looks.
"What was your third question?" she asked randomly.
"Well, walking to Grannies with the others I felt a pain in my stomach, like I had been stabbed again or I was punch so hard. I couldn't breath, but it was gone so soon. It meant something, but I have no idea what" I said and she frowned.
"I had heard about such things..." she said and a knowing smile spread across her blood red lips.
"What? What is wrong with me?" I begged her and she shook her head.
"I can't say. But I promise you, Adaline. There is nothing wrong with you" she promised
