The stupid alarm clock just refused to stop ringing! I move my elbow in a vain attempt of thinking that by doing so the ringing would stop. But instead I feel it slide over smooth skin and fall over a shoulder.

What the?

I was still groggy but I manage to lift my head up. I was sprawled over Johnny, whom was dead asleep. We actually looked comical, I rest my head back on his chest and look at the ceiling where the small black dome of Herbie’s camera was. I smirked.

I must’ve been dead asleep with my mouth open and my hair a mess last night. And somewhere through that night Johnny had cooled down, I wasn’t even tempted to look at my body for marks cause I was just that sure of myself.

I hear a quiet ‘thuweee’ sound, like a TV turning on.

“Good morning Miss Howard, Mr. Storm” Herbie says too brightly.

“Huh? Wha?” Johnny wakes with a start. I soothingly push down on his chest so he could lie back down, his hair was all over the place and I doubt his jaw was awake.

“I have good news!” Herbie chirped like a mechanical bird.

“What is it Herbie?” I say in a tired I-just-woke-up-so-what-you-have-to-say-better-be-good voice.

“Mr. and Mrs. Richards are on their way up the elevator right this moment. And Ben is parking his car in the garage as we speak! I’d hope they’d have been able surprised you while in bed-”

I didn’t hear the rest of what he said cause I was flying.

I tumbled out of the bed.

“Johnny get up!” I cry.

“10 more minutes” Johnny mumbled as he fell with me from the bed.

“You’ll have an eternity to sleep after Reed and Ben kill you once they see us” I say harshly. “And if Susan’s in a good mood she’d skin me alive.” I mutter to myself.

At the mere mention of the name ‘Reed’ Johnny was rocketing up.

“What!? They're here? Now?” he asked.

“Yeah, on their way up” I reply from the floor.

Johnny reaches for my arm and yanks me up, “Then what the heck are youstill doing here”

I growl at him.

“No time for that,” still holding onto me Johnny hauls me from his room and we bolt down the corridor.

We hear the ding of the elevator but we were still too far away.

Johnny looks at me and our intertwined hands, “We’re not gonna make it”

My determination sets in, “Oh yes we are” I say fiercely.

I coat the floor with ice and we slide down super fast, I see the elevator doors slide open, catch a glimpse of Susan smiling and talking to Reed.

This is gonna be close!

I end the ice right before the elevator doors, Johnny and I skid to an abrupt stop right in front of the doors as they finally open wide. Reed and Susan were still looking at each other, Johnny and I look at each other in stunned silence, marveling at the fact that we just got away with what we did. We both silently laugh at each other, till we both froze and looked down at our hands still holding onto each other.

Reed and Susan’s head careen to look at us as we instantly let go.

“Vick!” Susan squeals in delight and she rushes forward to hug me.

“Johnny? What when did you get to the elevator before us?” Reed asked.

“What do you mean?” Johnny asked back.

“We left you in the car” Reed points behind him. “Although you were quiet this whole weekend so you must’ve snuck passed us and gone up when we weren’t looking”

Johnny blinked at him.

“You’ve got to be kidding me” he said, dumbfounded.

“Johnny was so good this weekend” Susan whispered to me, “He was on his best behavior! No one even saw him!”

I bite my tongue to hold back my laugh.

“Wait a minute,” Johnny held up his finger tips to his head in a show to try and think. “You guys thought I was with you? Including Reed’s parents?”

“They did keep asking why you were hauled up in the guest room they gave you for so long.” Susan said innocently, “The poor couple, they even though you were avoiding them and didn’t like them”

At this point I am holding my breath, trying not to explode from the sheer hilarity of it all.

“But ultimately I’m really proud of you Johnny,” Susan praised, “You showed us how matured you can be by not getting into any trouble, and giving me and Reed the alone time we so desperately needed” she finishes compassionately, resting a hand on Reed’s chest.

Tears are rolling down my eyes people. And I’m pretty sure my face was blue.

“Thumbs up bro” Reed said admiringly, actually giving him a thumbs up.

“I WAS HERE WITH VICK THE WHOLE WEEKEND!” Johnny exploded in rage. “HOW COULD YOU GUYS NOT NOTICE THAT? INCLUDING MY OWN SISTER!?” he points at her accusatorially.

The color drained on Reed and Susan’s faces at the exact same time, and I just lost it.

“Are you telling me you were here with Victoria the whole weekend?” Susan hissed out viciously, “Alone?”

“You have no right to be mad at me after you didn’t even notice I was missing for 2 and a half days” Johnny sparked back.

“You skipped out on meeting my parents, your in-laws, so you could play footsie with Vick?” Reed said angrily.

“Nobody uses the word footsie anymore!” Susan and Johnny yelled at Reed at the same time.

The three of them blow out in an argument while I stand in the corridor and try to breath. The situation was just too funny.

“What da hells wrong with the elevator?” Ben rages, coming up from stairs I didn’t even know we had, hauling 3 duffel bags.

Ben’s eyes land on Reed and Susan still standing in the elevator. “So you’re the ones holding up the lift! I had to climb a thousand and one stairs to get here!”

I am on the floor crying laughing now, banging my arms and feet.

Reed and Susan immediately step out of the elevator and it instantly slams shut, eager to go to its next caller. Ben stomps, again not his fault, over to the 3 adults standing in the corridor.

Hey! You’re an adult too! I have no idea which part of me said that…should I be worried?

“Ben! You’ll never guess what these people did” Johnny rages.

“Us!” Susan cries in shock, “Ben! Johnny stayed back with Vick alone, unsupervised, for a whole weekend!”

“He what!?” Ben bellows.

“Yes I did” Johnny says, “But they didn’t even know I was gone!” He then counters, “For Christ’s Sake there was a car ride and a plane ride! How did you guys not notice I was gone!?”

“For realz?” Ben looked taken aback by that, “That is so not cool guys. I’m siding with Johnny on this one,”

“YOU’RE TAKING HIS SIDE?” Susan said.

“Who knows what he could’ve done to Vick!?” Reed interjected.

“I should be so mad at this but I’m so not” I laugh on the floor.

“Oh, so now your implying I could’ve raped her!?” Johnny yelled at Reed.

“If the sanitary gloves fit” Reed says hotly.

“Not cool Reed” Ben points.

At Reed’s words Susan rounded on him, “Is that what you think of my brother!!??”

The four of them continue arguing and make their way to the living room, yelling at the top of their lungs. I still lay on the carpet trying to find air, my eyes were closed, fighting back tears when I heard a ding.

“CIVILIZATION!” David yelled, and jumped onto my stomach. The doors ding close and the little airs left in my body was knocked and forced out.

“I can’t believe I missed your ugly face!” David kisses my cheek and forehead.

“Ugly!?” I side whacked his neck with my hand and that caused a fight.

Ding!

The doors open again as David and I rolled on the carpet trying to kill the other person.

“Fight! Fight!! Fight!!!” Sara chanted happily.

David and I paused mid battle and looked at her.

“I missed you guys!” she squeals in delight. David and I share a knowing raised eyebrow look and drag Sara by the bottom of her shirt down onto us.

She tumbles down and all three of us become a tangle of limps.

“I can’t believe you made us take the stairs” I hear Kevin’s voice whine from the magically stairs we had.

“It’s good exercise.” Wade chides his brother, “Plus elevators are run my evil gremlins who’ll rot and eat your brain, why else can’t anyone get cell service in it?”

Kevin facepalms himself.

“Hey Kevin!” I yelled from the floor.

Kevin looks up and spots us, he gave us a funny look, grins, then runs over and jumps on us, “Dog pile!” he cries.

He lands with a thud and we all ‘oof!’, then burst out laughing.

“Wait!” Wade yells, stopping us in our tracks. He careens his ear towards the living room, “I hear arguing!” he squeals in delight.

“Go down, first room to your left” I direct him with a smile.

“Oh yay!” Wade cheers, “I love when people yell at their loved us and fight” he charges for the source of the main commotion. I think I hear him say ‘goody goody’.

“Sorry for my brother, he insisted on coming” Kevin said exasperatedly.

“Don’t be! He’s hot!” Sara says.

“Sara, your foot is in my mouth” David spits out.

“Oh yeah? Well that’s nothings,” I say, “I’m under all y’all, so get off!” I blast snow at them and they shot up and nearly hit the ceiling.

I roll away as they came falling down. I stand and laugh at them as they hit the floor one by one.

“You’ll pay for that” David says darkly.

“Oh yeah,” Sara said.

All three of them were looking at me evilly, “GET HER!” Kevin yells

“Oh boy!” I run for my life around the apartment with Kevin, David and Sara hot on my heels. Passing the living room I see Wade standing on the couch cheering on Reed, Ben, Susan and Johnny’s argument like he was watching a football game.

And as I ran I feel the joy and happiness overwhelm me. This is it, they’re all back. My family’s back together and I am loving every crazy moment of it.
