In The Eye Of A Hurricane
Alex was so frozen from what he saw on the television. He was always the type of guy to watch the news to keep up with politics(even though he always did a backup search) and see what the weather was.
But what he saw on the television made his blood run cold. Hurricane Irma was heading straight for his hometown in the Caribbean. Alex had experienced a hurricane that destroyed his town when he was quite young. The thought that it was going to destroy it again haunted him.
He slipped into the floor, his breath hitching. Breathing became harder than usual and the room was getting fuzzy. Panic washed over his body in toxic waves in a racking manner.
Alex just wanted to save every person in the water, but knew that there were professionals for that. But a voice in his head told him he should be the one saving them, every single soul. Reaching for his phone, Alex dialed his girlfriend, Eliza's, number.
She picked it up and could only here raspy hyperventilating breaths on the end.
"Alex?" Eliza said softly. "Alex, darling, you're okay. I'm coming over right now. Stay on the phone with me." Her voice was soft and soothing.
The next few moments was Eliza talking to Alex and driving to his house when all the sudden her comforting voice was gone. Alex went further into panic, thinking he had just lost Eliza.
"C-Come b-back...." Alex called out to the other line that didn't exist.
"I'm right here," Eliza said and Alex looked up to see his knight dressed in blue.
Rushing to his side, Eliza wrapped him up in her arms and rocked him gently.
"Can you take a deep breath for me, Ally...?" She cooed and Alex did as she asked. "Good, good, now keep doing that and focus on my voice, please?" Rubbing deep circles into his back, she brought him out of panic and he pulled away.
"I-It was the h-hurricane...." He said quietly, knowing Eliza would ask why he was having a panic attack.
"Okay... Alex, there's nothing you can do...." Her hand drifted to his shoulder.
Alex leaned into her side and she wrapped him up in a blanket.
"I know...." A sigh slipped his lips and he closed his eyes. "We could pray...." His voice rang out after a ten-second silence. "If there's some God out there, surely they're more in control than we are...."
"Sure...." Eliza cracked a small smile as she grabbed his hand and prayed with Alex, admiring how after he thought he was dying a few moments ago, he was worried about strangers.
Hey, y'all... So I live no where near the hurricane and my heart really goes out to you all who are in the path of Irma. Yes, I am also a Christian if you all are wondering and no matter what religion, ethnicity, or skin-color you are, I have you in my prayers. Please, stay safe and pray for those dealing with Irma. My God listens to all prayers.
