At dinner that night everyone was very quiet. Too quiet. "So did everyone have a good day?" I say trying to start a convo. "Yes I did actually." My mom said getting the message that we need to start communicating. "What about you Tony?" She asks. He grunts. "It was alright. Not the best one in the world."
My mom rolled her eyes. "What about all of you?" Brandon spoke up first.
"I had an awesome day!" Mom nodded." What about you Maddie?"
I looked up at her." Uh," I looked over at Zac. He just shrugged. "It was great!"
My mom just stared at me curiously and then moved on to Zac. "What about you?"
"Amazing! This day was great." She nods. "Everything sounds good then." She kept looking at Zac and I over and over. "Let's just finish dinner."

After dinner I went up to my room because I was tired of getting weird looks from my mom. I took a quick shower and put on some pajama pants and a t-shirt. I walked over to my bed sat down and turned on the tv. Maybe something good was on.
Later that night when I was watching Degrassi I heard a knock on the door. "Come in." The door opened and my mom was standing there. "Hey sweetie."
"Hi mom."
"I was checking to see if you're okay." I nod." Of course why wouldn't I be?"
She sat down on the edge of my bed. "You and Zac have been acting strange lately. I just wanted to know..."
She trailed off. "Don't worry mom. Everything is okay. Me and Zac are just fine. We are just getting used to being step siblings."
She nodded. "Okay but you ever have to talk about something... Just talk to me."
"Okay. Goodnight then."
"Goodnight." She kissed me on the forehead and left the room.
I am seriously going to get caught one of these days...
