Kate stood at the podium her heart in her throat.

"I don't know what to say. I'm not good at stuff like this. Expressing my feelings. Being brave. She'd always make fun of me for it. Said I was colder than Ice King, the enchanted wizard that threw icicles and terrorised the Candy Kingdom." Kate smiled to herself, even though it hurt to. Passive Kate, too cold to feel, too cold to save her friend.

"She'd laughed if she knew I was doing this now, but here it is: All the reasons I loved her.

She was beautiful inside and out. Despite what she thought and how many faces she had, she was breathtaking.

She was fun and funny, she made me laugh and forget all my problems. When I was with her, I felt happy... I felt special. She saw me sitting alone at the front of the class and sat down next to me, pulled my nose from out of the books and showed me how to live.

She was broken, but she didn't let that define her.

She'd never give up, but she knew her limits.

She liked dogs and unicorns.

She believed in the magical, the whimsical.

She was crazy and she made me crazy.

She let me into her world.

And most importantly, she loved me.

Goodbye Haley. It was fun knowing you. You have finally achieved your dream. You are free. You're flying just like you wanted. You were fun and crazy and I was just coming along for the ride. Sometimes I think if I had been just a little bit quicker if I had answered your call..." Kate choked down a sob, shaking her head –don't go there. She pulled herself together and continued.

"I will never forget."

Her eyes stung with unshed tears as all the eyes focused on her as she spoke. The turnout wasn't bad. Haley would've approved. Some of these people she had never seen before and probably didn't know Haley, but it didn't matter. They came. Decked out in all black. They came. 

"I stand here before you all today to say goodbye to my friend Haley, who died too young."
