Die 28
Ardel:
"What no that is not fair this is only a one time thing."
Doctor Burge:
"Hey I know it is but I also know if you start having trouble swallowing, digestive issues, taste changes
heartburn/reflux, bowel changes, fatigue, iron-poor blood (iron deficiency anemia), unintentional weight changes." I said as I start feeding her.
Ardel:
"How would my bowel change?"
Doctor Buge:
"You would have to go to the toilet a lot more then you would want to you will feel like you have gotten more fat when you haven't because when you have cancer you lose weight." I feed her a bit more and then wait in till she ask me another question.
Ardel:
"What does unintentional weight changes do to a cancer person like me?" I ask him as he eats and then feed me some more.
Doctor Burge:
"Weight loss is common in cancer patients. Several factors can cause weight loss, including the type of cancer treatment, side effects, physical changes related to the tumor's location and the emotional impact of cancer. Additionally, cancer cells themselves can play a direct role in weight loss."
Ardel:
"So that means I will loss weight no matter what?"
Doctor Burge:
"Yep you will even if you think that you are fat trust me when I say this but you are not."
Ardel:
"What does what does digestive issues mean?"
Doctor Burge:
"It means that there can be bleeding you can feel bloating, constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, pain, nausea and vomiting."
Ardel:
"That is not going to be fun."
Doctor Burge:
"I know but I am right here with you and I will always be here for you."
Ardel:
"Thank you also I need the toilet."
Doctor Burge:
"Go on I will get my food then we might for a walk."
Ardel:
"Yeah I will like that." I want to the toilet and did my business I decided to see if their is any medicine for my head when I look in the cupboard I saw a package of diapers why are there diapers in his house.
Doctor Burge:
"Hey baby girl ready for that walk?"
Ardel:
"Yeah I am but we should have a talk first."
Doctor Burge:
"Talk about what?"
Ardel:
"Why are their diapers in your bathroom?"
Doctor Burge:
"You saw that?"
Ardel:
"Yes I did."
Doctor Burge:
"Why were you in the cupboard for?"
Ardel:
"I was trying to look for some medicine for my head now stop changing the subject and tell me why."
Doctor Burge:
I got up and went to get her medicine. "Here take this it should help your head."
Ardel:
I took the medicine that he gave me. "Thanks."
Doctor Burge:
"Anytime and cancer people have to wear diapers."
Ardel:
"What?"
Doctor Burge:
"Cancer people have to wear diapers."
Ardel:
"When do they wear it?"
Doctor Burge:
"When their bowel start changing like yours just did."
Ardel:
"And I have to wear it for how long?"
Doctor Burge:
"Cancer patients may need to wear diapers or use pads for a variety of reasons, including chemotherapy
After chemotherapy, patients may need to wear disposable diapers or use disposable bed pads because the chemotherapy drug is excreted in urine, stool, vomit, semen, and vaginal secretions. Sphincter-sparing surgery some patients may not be able to make it to the toilet in time after sphincter-sparing surgery. Diarrhea some patients may have diarrhea and loose stools, and may need to change their diet and activities to improve bowel control."
Ardel:
"So I would have to wear a diaper now."
Doctor Burge:
"Did you have diarrhoea when you were in the toilet just now?"
Ardel:
"Yes I did."
Doctor Burge:
"Then I think you should because like I said it is better unless we change your diet but I think that is the best diet for you yet also you would need to start weakening it may wear diapers before or during chemotherapy if they have difficulty controlling their bladder or bowels I know that you haven't been going to the toilet a lot yet but when you do you would need them?"
Ardel:
"No not yet."
Doctor Burge:
"Then we will keep an eye on that."
Ardel:
"What else."
Doctor Burge:
"Do you really want to know?"
Ardel:
"Yes please." I start crying I hate this so much I know he want to help but this is a lot for me but I do really want to know all of them so I can avoid them but I don't think I can avoid them.
Doctor Burge:
I hug her when she started crying it breaks my heart but I know that I will be right here with her no matter what. "Ok shh it is ok I am right here but I do not think it is a good idea to tell you more."
Ardel:
"Please jute tell me."
Doctor Burge:
"Ok baby girl it is ok but keep on hugging me yeah."
Ardel:
"Yeah."
Doctor Burge:
"You would have to keep the diaper on after chemo for 48 hours."
Ardel:
"Why and I can not avoid any of them can I?"
Doctor Burge:
"No you cannot I am sorry baby girl cancer patients need to keep a diaper on for at least 48 hours after chemotherapy to prevent the spread of chemotherapy byproducts in their body fluids."
Ardel:
"Oh so the fluids will come out."
Doctor Burge:
"Yep like when you are all sweaty also it there will be a lot of your body fluids that need to come out so you having a diaper really help it."
Ardel:
"Got it one more."
Doctor Burge:
"You are lucky this is the last one I have one last information cancer people aka you must wear a diaper after chemo now let me check your lungs and then we can go for a walk yeah."
Ardel:
"Yeah."
Doctor Burge:
"Is there any food suck in your throat?"
Ardel:
"No."
Doctor Burge:
"Good ok take a deep breath in..good and out...good one more in..and one more out..your lungs are good now for that walk."
Ardel:
"Then let go."
