II - Little Avia

I left Avia be for the night. She's still sleeping. I got a book and tried to read in the corner of the ops room, but I couldn't concentrate on he words. My eyes moved across the page but I wasn't receiving any of it. I was distracted. Not by Beast Boy and Cyborg bickering over the remote again, not by Robin trying to shut them up, and not by Starfire trying to calm down Silkie. I was distracted by Avia just showing up.

She shouldn't be here. I don't want her to be here.

Let me rephrase that. I want her to be here, but I don't at the same time. Whenever I see family it's always bad. The fact that my father's little helpers are after her doesn't debunk my suspicions one bit.

I didn't want to tell the others. I know why they want Avia dead. Why He wants her dead. He's bitter that I banished him. He wants revenge and murder is how he plans to get it. He probably forsaw that she'd find me eventually.

I wonder why she was trying to find me. She and I have the same powers excluding having visions.

She's changed since the last time I saw her. She's changed a lot. She grew her hair long and changed her clothes. She used to wear a dress and leggings everyday. Now it's this body suit thing with quarter legs and sleeves. Guess I'm just stuck in the past.

Ok I can't take it anymore. They're really starting to get annoying.

"Would you stop arguing? It's just a remote. All you have to do is get up and change the channel." Beast Boy and Cyborg glare at me.

"Don't joke like that." Cyborg says.

"I wasn't joking." I shoot. I'm getting serious déjà vu right now.

"Good cause it wasn't funny!" Cyborg replies.

"Here." I pull the remote from under the couch and put it on the couch. "Your welcome."

"Why didn't you do that before?" Robin asks.

"You didn't ask me to. Next time use your brains before you do something stupid. Idiots." And with that I walk back to the infirmary.

I open the door and she's not on the bed. She isn't even in the room.

She hasn't left the tower. I sense that. But I don't really know where. The bullet is still on the table and her cloak is on the chair. Why'd she take it off?

I walk out of the infirmary and everybody has calmed down, relaxing on the couch as if I didn't just burn them a few minutes ago.

"Has anyone seen Avia? She isn't in the infirmary and she's left her cloak."

"No. Now would she have left without us seeing her?" Robin asks.

"Perhaps she is on the roof? Or the basement? That is where Raven goes to think and/or be alone is it not?"

"Well she's not on the roof." Cyborg says looking at the cameras on his arm.

"Then I'll check the basement." Robin says something to me, but I don't really pay attention.

I walk through the lobby and go down the hallway to the stairs to the basement.

"Avia?" It's really dark. I try to turn on the light but it doesn't work. "Did you mess with the lights?" No answer. "V. I know that you are down here. Stop hiding." The lights switch on and Avia is sitting in the middle of the room with her legs crossed in the middle of the air. What's she doing? She doesn't meditate. "What are you doing?"

"The infirmary made me uncomfortable. I like it down here much better." She replies.

"Me too. This is where I go to think." I say. "Hey, why did you come? What the reason for you to be here other than keeping your life and your sanity?"

"I was looking for you." She says quietly.

"Why?"

"You're so much stronger than I am. I tried fighting them off Raven. It didn't work. It didn't work and that's when I got shot for the first time." He eyes dulled over. I can tell she's remembering it again. Her eyes dull over when she thinks of something unpleasantl.

"I fell out of the sky. It stopped me from flying and using my magic. I almost broke my leg had I not fallen in a dumpster. Those bullets are dangerous Raven. Number one rule: don't get hit." She's sitting on the floor now. I'm sitting in front of her.

"Second time. In between dimensions, I got shot just bellow my neck. I managed to get through. But I had to hide. I did. But they found me anyway. It stops hurting after a while."

"You slept for a while. When was the last time you saw a bed?"

"Home. Azerath."

"When did you leave home?"

"14th birthday." She spoke in chopped up sentences not taking her eyes off of my hands.

"So you just–"

"6 months. No bed, food, water. 6 months." She's traumatized. I can see it in her face. "They won't make me leave will they? I don't wanna leave."

"We–"

"I won't leave."

"It's ok V. Were hi in you an old friend's room for now."

"Thank you." She takes her eyes off my hands and moves them to my face.

"Who are they?"

"What?"

"They have to have names. A name. Any name."

"The leader is Marik. The other two are Gunther and Darix. They call themselves the Bounty Hunters. Except they don't hunt criminals. They hunt innocent people with special powers or abilities. They call them Mytres. They hate them. They were dangerous before father got to them. They came to Azerath right before I left. I just want to go home at this point Raven." I don't want to break the news to her. But I have to.

"Azerath is gone Avia."

"What?"

"He destroyed it. The prophecy happened." She shrank. Her hair fell in front of her face.

"Earth is our home now." I say. I see tears.

"Can...can we go upstairs?"

"Sure. You can get to know everyone better. Star can fix your cloak and you cab get a decent meal." She looks up and nods. Her face goes back to normal. She even smiles.

"I know I don't smile, but that doesn't mean you can't."

We walk out of the basement and make our way back up to the ops room. Everybody is still where I left them, but now the sun has almost completely set.

"Looks like you found her." Robin says. Avia steps back a little.

"Hi. Thank you foretting me stay."

"Oh joy! You have returned! I have mended your purple cloak!" Starfire flies out and hands Avia her cloak. She snaps the silver and red gem around her neck and pulls up her hood to match me.

"Two peas in a pod if you ask me." Cyborg states.

"What?"

"It's just that you two look the same when you have your hoods up! Ha!" Beast Boy laughs. We look at eachother, blush, snap our hoods down, and turn away.

"Shut up." We say. The others laugh again.

"What's for dinner?" Avia asks.

"Well Beast Boy was supposed to cook but you might not like what he makes tonight." Cyborg jabs his thumb at Beast Boy.

"Why?"

"Vegetarian." I whisper in her ear.

"Oh. Ew."

"Hey!"

"I shall cook!"

"Uh Star, no offense but she might like something more....edible." I say.

"I'll do it." With that Robin starts to cook. At least he's can cook normal foods. I can't cook for my life.

We all sit on the couch and Avia rest her head on my shoulder.

"So Avia what kind of powers do you got other than flyin'?" Cyborg asks. She lifts her head up.

"Everything that Raven can do." She makes a thinking face. "Well not everything. I don't have visions like she does." She adds quietly.

"C'mon. You two can't be exactly the same! There have to be some differences other than that."

"Well...I found out that I can do this two months ago." She stares at Beast Boy for a second, then her body melts into a dark purple puddle.

"What the–?!" We jump up from our seats. How the what? Just then she reformed herself into a green blob and then into Beast Boy!

Woah.

"Woah! Dude! She can copy people's shapes! Can you copy their powers?" She shakes her head.

"Or their voices." Hearing her voice come from Beast Boy's body makes me anxious.

"That is really useful." I say. She melts back into a puddle and reforms to herself.

"Yes, but it doesn't always work. I tried to do that with Robin but it didn't work." She admits. He whips around at the sound of his name.

"What did you try to do?"

"Nothing!" Beast Boy and Cyborg laugh.

"There must be more!" Starfire pushes.

"There's one more, but it's scary."

"It shouldn't be that big of a problem. C'mon!" Beast Boy pushes.

"I don't want to."

"Why not?" Starfire asks.

"Because it didn't work the last time I tried it." I know what she's talking about.

"It's fine. You don't have to." I reply.

For some reason she keeps this power a secret. She's never showed it to me. She just told me it was bad. When I asked her why she only told me she hurt somebody. At the time I was 10 so I just let it go. I've never pushed for information because she seemed traumatized by what she did. Kind of like I was when I first found out that I was the gem. I didn't even want to touch anybody because I was paranoid about what I could do. Everybody read about the gem on Azerath. Everybody.

Besides, Avia is shy. She doesn't talk a lot unless she's either in trouble or passionate about something, and hardly stays near people. She likes to be alone.

"Oh! I have an idea! How about we ask her 20 of the ideas that are on our minds!" Star suggests.

"You mean 20 questions?" I clarify.

She nods enthusiastically. Avia does just the opposite. She nods slowly as if she was tying to get somebody to understand her.

"Joy! I shall start!" Robin comes over with pasta. Great. Something we can all eat, something we all like, and something Beast Boy won't complain about.

I look over at Avia and she literally has a spoonfull left on her plate. Jesus.

"Hungry much?" Robin asks. She just blushed.

Starfire and Beast Boy asked most of the questions. All she did was nod and shake her head. No explanation. Same as always.

Avia's POV

Number one: I read her mind. Number two: She thinks she knows why he wants me dead. Number three: She's wrong.

It's not because of that stupid prophecy. He told me he got over that. Personally. It's 'cause I took something I shouldn't have took. I'm not giving it back though. It's still on me. But I'm not giving it back. If you want to get technical about it, it was mine in the first place. All I did was take it back.

Your probably saying to yourself, "she's so stupid. All of that for an object you think is yours?" Yes. It's totally worth it.

Raven has her secrets, and I have mine, and I don't like how involved these people are in knowing about me. I don't think Raven likes it either. I'm gonna see if I can get to know them better.

Maybe if I get to know them better I'll show them.

___________________________________________

Hope you like this chapter. Things are about to get heavy. Second chapter too. Don't know how long this book is gonna be, but I'll just go with it.

I have a question, are any of you like Avia? Shy and introverted around people but super loud and extroverted in certain situations? I kinda just wanna know. No particular reason. Just wanna know.

Oh and by the way, no, Avia isn't blind. I've shown my friends some of the art I made of her and they asked is she was blind because her eyes were all light/pale and stuff. Just in case any of you were confused. I've got nothing against blind people, she's just not blind.

Thx!
