I am Death - Part 13

When we arrived, I was relieved to see that there were about the same amount of Felons, as Deaths. And after those of us who just came started fighting, the Felons were now outnumbered.

Nobody wasted any time just standing around, and we all immediately stepped into action.

The odds were in our favor, and it was getting even more favorable. The Felons were getting creamed, and more Deaths seemed to be coming every few minutes.

Although I was shooting with my heart's content, there was still a specific Felon I was searching for. Pretty soon, I saw him, shooting at a Death with her back turned.

I immediately shot at the bullet, hoping the arrow would hit its mark, and not another Death. I breathed a sigh of relief as I noticed the arrow make contact with the bullet, sending both in opposite directions. The arrow immediately fell to the ground, but the bullet bounced off to the nearest Felon, which just so happened to be the very Felon that shot me last time. "Karma's a bish," I said, smirking as I watched him fade away.

Suddenly remembering Daniel, I flew up, trying to stay hidden behind other Deaths and Felons.

"Where did all of these Deaths come from?" I heard him scream at a Felon. "What is going on?"

"I - I don't know, sir," the Felons said, looking around nervously. "But it seems like the dead ones are resurrecting, and with better skill."

"Then find a way to make our dead ones like that, too!" I winced in disgust, as I saw a drop of spit land on the Felon's cheek. Not wanting to waste any more time, I quickly shot the Felon in the chest, watching him fall.

"What?" I saw Daniel turn around angrily towards my direction, and I quickly flew up, not stopping as I shot at another Felon. Eventually, though, he was able to locate me. "Daniels!" he screamed. "You're supposed to be dead!"

I took out an arrow as I aimed for his neck. "I can't be dead!" I yelled back. "I am Death!" I let go of my arrow. "And Deaths cannot die!" I dove under him quickly, knowing he would just block the arrow. Just as I predicted, his wings shot up, and the arrow harmlessly bounced off. I took this chance to aim for his leg, which was now exposed.

Unfortunately, though, his wings seemed to be on autopilot, and the wing quickly aimed for me.

Surprised, I dove to my right, as I saw the bullet split in half as it passed over the edge of my wing. My eyes widened, and I knew I wasn't the only one surprised when I snuck a glance at Daniel. Suddenly, I had an idea.

I reached back for an arrow, and aimed it up at Daniel, expecting him to hide behind his wing. I smirked when I saw him cover himself. So far, so good.

I sped up, flying in the same direction as the arrow, grabbing it with my free hand as I passed it.

Through all this action, I was only focused on getting my timing right. When I was close enough, I shouted, "Hey, Daniel!" as loud as I could.

Again, as I predicted, he lowered his wing, giving me full exposure to his face as soon as I passed him, stabbing the arrow into his forehead.

I forced myself to stop, turning around to face Daniel. I smirked at the sight in front of me.

"What have you done?" he cried, as he started falling.

"I did my job!" I shouted back, so he could hear me. As he faded, I remembered something. "Remember that time you asked where I was from?" I asked. I didn't wait for him to reply. "Well, I'm from the Death Realm, and you're not welcome here."

I watched triumphantly as he tried to scream at me, but he was alowly falling, until he was completely out of my vision. By now, everyone was watching either me or flying down to  Daniel's level, until he no longer existed.

"Isabelle!" I heard Sandra scream, as she flew up to me. "You did it!"

I shook my head gently. "But there's still the other Felons left..." my voice trailed off as I realized that all the Felons were now leaving. Not that there was a lot of them left, anyway.

I also noticed something else. As soon as the last Felon left, the break started connecting again. I glanced at Sandra, confused. "Why...is it fixing?" I asked.

Sandra rolled your eyes. "Because you did your job, silly!" she said, slapping her hand to her forehead. "Don't you remember what Delton said? Something like, 'We made it so that it wouldn't break, unless a Death refused to their job' and you did your job! So now everything's returning to normal!"

Really? Damn. Well, of course I knew that. I heard a beeping watch, and lifted up my left wrist. I flipped open my watch, and the same two icons I saw when I was first created, were there again.

I grinned at Sandra, when I noticed someone coming closer from my side vision. I turned, and saw Sabrina. "Hey!" I said, "You made it!"

She made a face. "Um, I actually 'died' once, right after you came back, but yeah!" She stared at me for a while. "I like your wings, by the way."

I grinned, giving them an extra flap. "Yeah. And did you see when Daniel shot a bullet at it? It broke-"

"In half, yeah, I saw," Sandra interrupted, giving me a look, before motioning to Sabrina. Oh, right.

"Sandra, this is Sabrina. She's also an SD," I said putting their hands together.

"Yeah, I know," Sandra said, slightly smiling. "Her name starts with S. And she aimed a gun at your face the first time we met."

Sabrina laughed. "Oh yeah, I'd forgotten about that. Sorry," she said, smiling.

"Wow, you can smile?" I asked, joking. Then I paused. I turned to Sandra sharply. "Why do I have a sense of humor?" I asked. "That's a human emotion I'm not supposed to have."

"Things have changed, after the encounter with the Felons," a voice said above us. When we all looked up, we saw Delton floating on top.

"Delton!" I said, surprised. "You decided to come back!"

He sighed. "Yep. After thinking about it, I realized that you actually wouldn't be a good leader."

I rolled my eyes. "Yeah, okay. Now tell me why I have a sense of humor."

He lied down on the air, acting like he was on solid ground. "I'm not sure, but this is my theory," he said slowly. "After your encounter in the Mortal After-Death - that's what I decided to call it - you had some human emotions, which I think found a way to stick with you, even after you left."

"So, we're going to start feeling things like sympathy and remorse to humans?" I asked, hoping this wasn't going where I thought it was going.

"Oh, no, no," he said quickly, shaking his hands. "You won't have any human emotions to the mortals, but I think you'll have them for other Deaths."

"So, if I shoot Isabelle here, I'll feel sorry afterwards?" Sabrina asked.

I rolled my eyes. "Oh wow, really funny," I said.

She turned to me frowning. "I wasn't joking."

At first I thought she was really serious, and then she eventually started smiling.

I grinned back, swinging my arms around Sandra and Sabrina. "Okay, guys, let's..." the smile dropped off my face as I realized something.

"What? What is it?" Sandra and Sabrina both asked, removing themselves from my grasp. "Talk to us, Isabelle!"

I forced myself to look at them. "Guys, I am really hungry right now."

It took a while for it to sink in. Then Sabrina slapped a hand to her forehead. "You mean we have to eat and sleep and drink now?" she moaned.

Sandra sighed. "Well, I've always wanted to know how it feels to be full?" she said.

The three of us laughed, as we headed for the DeathPortals - which also resumed working as well - arguing about what to eat.
