Chapter 3

The room was completely silent. Jace still remained against the glass doors and he refused to turn around to face her. Clary at this moment wasn't positive if he even knew that she was in the same room as him. She kept her eyes on him and took a small step forward. At this, Jace looked over his shoulders quickly. Their eyes never met but she could feel the pain within them. He turned back away from her and shoved the glass doors open quickly. Clary didn't know what to do, so she stood there for a moment. She could go to the elevator and wait with everyone else. She waited a second, her eyes still on him. She knew that Jace didn't want to talk and she also knew that she couldn't force him to but felt a pull towards him. Something was off and she could tell that Alec felt it too. She inhaled and slowly walks towards the glass doors, towards Jace.

She reached the doors and pushed them open, stepping outside she got a huge gush of ice cold wind. She was cold instantly, but continued towards him. He was leaning over the edge, holding something shiny in his hands. He turned to face her but his eyes never touched hers. She then saw that it was The Morgenstern ring with its chain.

"If that is why you stayed you could have said something, Alec wouldn't have minded to stay, he-"
"I don't belong with all of you," he said all of a sudden and exhaled sharply. "I don't deserve iratzes and healing, or friends and I surely don't deserve you Clary!"
Clary shock her head and took a few steps closer to him. They were only now a few feet apart but there was a great distance between them, Jace was so distant from everyone. "Do you ever think about me, and what I want? I love you and I deserve the chance to talk with you about what happened!" yelled Clary, she was full of anger.
He lifted his head up and for the first time he looked at her. There eyes met and held there in silence for a few moments before Jace turned away from her and spoke in a harsh tone.

"I don't get it Clary. I don't understand why you even want to look at me, let alone talk to me. The one who-"
"Jace," she said. "The things you did-that wasn't you. I know you! You could never do those things. You would never hurt me."

Jace turned sharply around to face her, he held disbelief in his golden eyes. He shocked his head and ran his bloody knuckled hand through his curly mess of hair. He brushed past her and walked to the corner of the roof terrace.
"If it wasn't me," he softly said, "then why do I remember everything I did? I hurt you. I remember everything Clary." He lowered his head and she walked closer to him and reached up and cupped his face. She pulled it up so she could look straight at him.
"You remember because she wanted you to Jace. It's all okay, Jace. I promise." she said in a soft voice.
"I was watching," he said in a low voice. "I was watching myself do those things, hurt you and I was screaming at myself to stop but I couldn't!" His voice cracked and he turned his face away from her as a single tear slid down his bruised face. He reached up slowly and placed his hands on top of hers. Jace could feel the warmth of her skin traveling though his numb body. He then placed his fingers around her hands and pulled them off of his face. He turned around real quick, his back was before her. He closed his eyes tightly and drew his hands into fists next to his face, digging his fingernails into his palm, causing some warm red blood to come out. He threw his hands down quickly and leaned his head back. Clary took a small step forward and rapped her arms around him and held him tightly. Jace's body shock and Clary could feel the pain in his heart. He began to cry a little and Clary held tighter onto him.
"Shh, shhh...it's okay." she said in a soothing voice. She laid her head against his back and closed her eyes. They stayed like this for a few minutes before Jace stopped crying and spoke in a weak voice.
I can't stand it, any of it. I'm just....I don't know," he said. "You shouldn't be here with me, you should just go Clary." He turned around and looked at her, his eyes were very soft against hers. "Clary..."

"That's not your choice to make, it's mine. You can't decide when and where I should go." Clary said looking straight at him. He reached down and placed his hand in hers. He smiled a little and bend his head down and stared at the cuts along his hands. "I know." he said in a whisper. He raised his head back up to met hers and he took a step closer towards Clary. He brought his free hand up and tucked a lose red curly behind her ear and he left his hand cupped to her face. "I love you, you know that? I love you with my whole self, you complete me. Clary you are my everything. I have fallen in love with you forever and I'm so sorry. What I did tonight-"he stopped speaking as Clary took a step closer, her chest about to touch his. She leaned up to look at him. When Clary moved closer to Jace, he tensed, but he didn't move away from her, he stayed still.
"That wasn't you." was all she said before she stood on her tip toes and kissed him. Her smooth lips pressed softly against his rough lips. Clary could taste some blood from the cut on his lips. She broke the kiss when he didn't return it and she stared up at him. "It's all my fault. I was controlled and lost, I still am, and-" he said but Clary cut him off when she took a step back from him and pulled him with her. She pulled him towards the edge and looked at the night's sky. "It's not your fault Jace. I brought you back. You were dead, I did this. This is all on me so please stop punishing yourself. I love you and I will always love you, and there is nothing that could break this love that I have for you. Now please, let go of all this weight on your shoulders." She tightened her grip oh his hand and she looked deeply into his eyes hoping to see some bit of light in them but they were dull. "Jace-"
"Clary, you came into my life and changed it forever. I love you so much." he said and leaned forward and kissed the her forehead softly. She closed her eyes and inhaled. Once he pulled away she smiled up at him and he returned the same smile, but it soon faded.
