It was a normal school day. Esumi was in class with her brother and Haruichi. She sat quietly at her desk, catching up on a book. Her brother and Haruichi quietly discussed things most likely falling into the category of baseball. Then there was Kanemaru. He smugly watched the older Sawamura twin. Testing period was coming up soon, and he'd most definitely hold Eijun's grades against the pitcher.
Class began and almost instantly, Eijun eyes began fluttering. Kanemaru smirked, turning his head toward the teacher. 'Just wait Sawamura. I'm not letting you slack off since you got on varsity before me.' Kanemaru thought, resting his head into the palm of his hand.
Esumi stood her textbook up so it stood by itself. Behind it, she opened up her own book and read that instead. Haruichi diligently took notes on the subject, like the good student he was. Esumi looked up, glancing to where her brother sat quietly. Her light brown eyes softened at the sight of Eijun drowning into blackness. A smile crept up her lips, and a little giggle escaped. She rolled her big brown eyes, turning their attention back to her book.
"Sawamura!" The teacher exclaimed, slamming his hand against his podium. Esumi looked up by habit and Eijun jumped awake in his seat. "Sawamura you should stop falling asleep in my class. These lessons are very important!" He lectured Eijun. Then the teacher turned to Esumi. "Sawamura-san, I know you are scoring perfectly on all of the tests and quizzes, but that doesn't not mean you don't have to pay attention. So please put the book away."
"Sorry." Both Sawamura's apologized. Eijun sat up straight. Esumi closed her book and put her textbook flat on her desk.

Class was over and Eijun was horridly trying to keep himself awake. His grip tightened around the edges of his book. His eyes glared harshly into the paper pages. Eijun looked so concentrated. Esumi had pulled up a chair besides her brother's desk. She sat there quietly, having gone back to reading her own interesting book. Kanemaru stepped up, not being acknowledged by either of the twins.
Kanemaru made a face, then letting a smirk rest on his lips once more. "Hey, don't tell me you're at a loss.." Kanemaru spoke up, directing his statement toward the pitcher. Eijun looked up in shock, finally noticing that Kanemaru was there. "If you fail a subject, it's a detention. And if you get too much detention, you won't make it to games."
"FOR REAL!?" Eijun asked in complete shock. Esumi giggled, not bothering to look up. That didn't mean she wasn't listening to the conversation.
"Good luck Ei-nii." Esumi whispered low enough for Eijun to not hear her.
"Kanemaru! Do something! Because of Chris-senpai's lectures, everyday my head's totally wasted!" Eijun suddenly jumped up, latching his hands onto Kanemaru's shoulders.
"It's your fault for slacking off during study time!" Another baseball player in the class scolded. "Don't be so pathetic now!" He called out to Eijun. The older Sawamura growled under his breath, letting tears of frustration roll down his cheeks. Kanemaru looked at the pitcher in disgust. He let out a sigh while rubbing his neck.
"Well, I don't mind helping you study.." Kanemaru muttered. He looked as if he was thinking intently about something. Esumi glanced up at the offer. An expression of relief and relaxation graced her features. "Listen up! There's not much time left until summer! There really might come a chance for you to play. Be it baseball or studying..." Kanemaru paused, getting close up to Eijun's face. "I'll bash everything into your head! Only temporary though..!"
"Kanemaru..." The other baseball player is this class muttered. They too were shocked by their friend's sudden offer.
"You aren't just the representative for the baseball club." Kanemaru added on. "You're a representative for all us first years."

The bell rang for the end of school. Students quickly packed their things to make it to their club on time. The hallways began to be filled with students and teachers. Esumi zipped up her school bag, now prepared to leave. Eijun was waiting patiently by the classroom door for his sister. Esumi stood, her chair causing a loud squealing against the tiled floor. The twin's teacher looked up. "Ah, Sawamura-san, may I speak to you for a moment?" Instantly the twins knew that Esumi was the one being addressed. Only she was called with an honorific, whilst Eijun was merely called 'Sawamura' by the teachers.
"Yes sir. Ei-nii, just go on ahead." Esumi smiled, letting her brother rush to baseball practice. Esumi stood patiently in front of her teacher's desk, allowing him to finish whatever he was doing prior. The older male signed one last paper, then turned his attention to the student in front of him.
"Sawamura-san, I was hoping you would become our class representative. Your grades are above average and I doubt missing a lesson will dwindle that grade." The teacher asked Esumi. Esumi thought about it for a moment. She was wondering if she'd be able to handle it, since she was on varsity in baseball as well. Being the class representative would mean attending meetings, doing paper work, etc. Esumi knew that she didn't have time for it.
"Sorry sir. I don't think that responsibility will work with my baseball schedule.." Esumi politely declined. The teacher smiled kindly.
"Ah, it's okay Sawamura-san. I understand. Thank you. Let me write you a pass to you club." The teacher pulled out a small notepad from his desk drawer. He scribbled down some words, and ripped off the paper. He handed it to Esumi, who took it.
"Thank you. Have a good day sensei." She spoke, bowing to her teacher. Esumi left the room, closing the door behind her. Quickly Esumi made her way to practice.

Later on that night, practice ended. Esumi was hanging out in the boys dorm after dinner. Eijun was beside her. The twins were sitting inside Kanemaru's dorm room and at his desk, both being on their phones. Eijun was supposed to be studying and Esumi was there just because. Esumi's head rested against her brother's left shoulder. Her fingers quickly typed across the keyboard. Eijun was also typing away at his phone.
"Ei-nii, are you emailing Wakana-chan?" Esumi whispered, looking away from her phone. Instead, she moved her head to give herself a better look of Eijun's phones. She had to speak quietly because Eijun didn't want to get caught by Kanemaru.
"Yeah. I'm letting her and the others know that we made it onto the bench." Eijun replied. Esumi nodded. Eijun went on reading Wakana's full reply.
"I told Fuji too." Esumi spoke softly. "Him and the others wanna come to cheer us on also." Esumi smiled happily. Eijun grinned, raising his hand to ruffle his twin's hair.
"WHAT ARE YOU SECRETLY WRITING TEXT MESSAGES FOR!? DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION YOU'RE IN!?" Kanemaru yelled, hitting Eijun's head with a paper fan.
"Well, u-unconsciously....I escaped..r-reality.." Eijun tried to think of an excuse. Esumi snickered at the lame attempt.
"Just go home.." Kanemaru growled out exasperatedly.
"W-wait, Kanemaru!!" Eijun pleaded as he was being shoved out.
"Thanks for trying." Esumi giggled, patting the annoyed Kanemaru on the shoulder. He nodded his head, opening the door for Esumi to leave. She said her good nights, just as the door closed behind her.
Esumi was now on her way back to the girls dormitory. She was looking down at her phone, not paying attention to where she was going. Esumi came in contact with someone else. "Oof." The small noise escaped her mouth. Esumi rubbed her nose, looking up at the person she bumped into. It was Masuko. "Ah, hello Masuko-senpai." She smiled. "Sorry about that."
"It's okay, Esumi-chan." He grinned. "You going back to your dorm?" The pudding lover asked. Esumi nodded her head with a smile.
"Yep." She replied. Masuko offered to walk her there, to which she gratefully accepted. The conversation between the two ranged from between baseball to favorite types of pudding. "Well, I like the vanilla with the tapioca pearls.." Esumi liked her lips due to thinking about the snack.
"Then next time I'll buy you some." Masuko stated, messing the girl's hair up. Esumi laughed, lightly shooing the third year's hand away.
"Sounds good Masuko-senpai. I'll hold you up to that." Esumi grinned cheekily. Masuko nodded his head in a promise not to forget. A ringing broke the moment of silence between the two. Esumi looked down to her phone, then picking up the call. She placed it on speaker, feeling that it would be rude to exclude Masuko. "Daichi?" She asked with shock laced throughout her voice.
"Yo Sumi." A deep voice came through the other end. Masuko slightly stiffened at the mention of the male name, not to mention how deep his voice was. Masuko was greatly tempted to take the phone and interrogate the person on the other line.
"What's with the sudden call?" Esumi questioned. She gave an apologizing smile up to Masuko, who faked a smile back.
"Well, I heard from Fuji that you made varsity." The male on the other end, Daichi, replied. "I wanted to congratulate you personally. I bet the others only texted you huh?" A smirk was obviously noted.
"Yeah." Esumi laughed. "I appreciate the call, but it's late soo.." She trailed off with a smile.
"Oh right..sorry." Daichi laughed. "Oi, tell bakamura not to screw up, ne?" Daichi asked the younger girl.
"Bye Daichi~!" Esumi laughed, completely ignoring the previous question. Before the male could retort, Esumi hung up. "Sorry about that senpai." Esumi apologized, continuing to walk toward the dorms. Masuko shook his head, dismissing the short interruption.
"Was that a friend from middle school?" Masuko asked curiously. Esumi looked up at her upperclassman. She grinned at the third year and nodded.
"Yep, my friends are different from the ones Ei-nii hung out with." Esumi replied. "That was Daichi on the phone just now. I met him through Fuji." She briefed, stopping in front of her dorm room. Masuko nodded his head, thinking about the other friends that Esumi hand outside of the Seidou baseball team.
"I see." He muttered. "Well good night Esumi-chan." Esumi waved as the pudding lover walked all the way back to his dorm. The young girl turned when he disappeared from sight. She slid her key into the keyhole and turned it. Inside, Haruno was sitting upon her bed, brushing her hair.
"Oh, Esumi-chan." Haruno looked up. Esumi bowed her head in treating. "Back so late?" The manager smiled knowingly.
"Heh, sorry. I was attempting to help Kanemaru and Ei-nii study." Esumi tiredly fell back onto her bunk. The baseball player exhaled loudly, closing her eyes. "I'm so tired." She laughed.
"Of course you are! You're on the male baseball team!" Haruno rolled her eyes and set her brush down. Esumi let her eyes flutter closed.
"Now that I think about it.." The young baseball girl recalled, "Jr. High practice was nothing compared to this.." Esumi laughed at the thoughts of her younger self being tired from baseball practice.
"Kataoka-san sure works you guys hard." Haruno speculated. Esumi nodded her eyes, adjusting to lay upon her side. Gold eyes slowly opened and stared at the other brunette female in the room.
"Well majority of it is for our own interest. Coach is basically a crutch to reach that goal." Esumi responded. Haruno smiled at the small baseball junkie.
"I agree." Was all Haruno could think to reply with.

Practice took place the following morning, as per usual. Esumi, along with the other fielders, we're taking laps. They passed by the bullpen. Esumi could clearly see her twin brother throwing pitches into a net. He shouted with frustration, taking a glance at Kawakami and Furuya. The other two pitchers were actually pitching to the catchers, Miyauchi and Miyuki. Esumi shook her head, a small smile extending over her face.
"You're slowing down Esumi!" Yuki yelled at the young girl. The aforementioned baseball player quickly snapped out of her train of thought. She loudly yelled an apology to her captain. Her pace quickened at took place at the front lines again.
"AHHHHH!" Eijun voiced his frustration. Esumi smiled wider.

It was the middle of class now, and tests were being passed back. Esumi patiently awaited for her tests to be given back to her. She glanced toward her brother, only to see the pure joy on Eijun's face. The brunette smiled, tilting her head in a pleased manner, though the expression was completely contradicting the fielder's thoughts. 'Ei-nii probably barely passed all of his tests...'
Eijun turned back in his seat, tears in his eyes. He made eye contact with his younger twin sister. Esumi grinned brightly, silently telling him how proud she was. Or so he thought. Eijun faced the front of class again, staring happily at his test scores. 'I did it Esu!' He mentally cried.
Esumi shook her head once her brother looked away. The young girl's homeroom teacher then appeared beside her desk. "And with the highest test scores of the freshman class, Sawamura Esumi." The teacher handed Esumi all of her tests. "Well done Sawamura-san."
"Ah, thank you sensei." Esumi replied.
The rest of class was dismissed for study hall. Students began moving about the class in order to discuss the tests with their comrades. Eijun immediately ran up to his twin sister. "ESU! Look!" The pitcher hyperactively jumped in front of Esumi. Eijun practically shoved the paper into Esumi's face. "My personal best!"
Esumi took the paper from her brother. In red ink, the number forty was scrawled across the top of the test. She grinned, looking back up at Eijun. "Very well done, Ei-nii." Esumi complimented, even though she secretly pitied her brother. 'Oh Ei-nii....' She thought.
Eijun snatched the paper back and went to show Kanemaru, a proud grin evident upon his features. Kanemaru looked very annoyed that the baseball idiot was bothering him. Esumi couldn't help the laugh that escaped her lips. Haruno joined her best friend and roommate. "Sawamura-kun seems really excited." Haruno laughed as well. "If forty is his new personal best, what was it before?" Haruno wondered, looking at the female baseball player.
"Who knows?" Was Esumi's short reply.

Esumi and the rest of the baseball team was ready for practice. They all gathered on the field to await further instructions from their coach. However, Kataoka and Takashima were already awaiting the team. As quick as possible, the students lined up.
"I'm handing out the numbers now." Kataoka's voice boomed over the many baseball players. "If I call you, step up!" The coach took a moment to look at each and every member's face. "First, the number 1! Tanba Kouchirou!"
The look on the ace's face was that of shock and happiness. Though, no one else around him seemed surprised. Esumi practically saw the questions swirling around the tall pitcher's head. She smiled, holding back her urge to push him forward so that he could receive his bib.
"What's up? Come and get it." Kataoka looked directly at his recently injured ace. Tanba was hesitant, stumbling forward with an awkward 'y-yes' leaving his lips. "Don't rush and take it easy in recovering.." Kataoka handed the third year pitcher the bib with the number 1 in bold black lettering. Tanba took it gently, turning to get back in line. The third and second years grinned at the sight.
"Rather, what did you shave your head for?"
"Well I couldn't pitch until the end so.."
"SO SERIOUS!"
"HYAHAHA! It looks good on you Tanba-san!"
"You won't shave your eyebrows off?"
The third and second years laughed at the return of their ace. Eijun, Esumi, Haruichi, and Furuya all wished that they could somehow become apart of that circle soon. However, that still seemed plenty far away.
"Next," Kataoka spoke, getting everyone back on track. The students relined themselves.
Number 2, Miyuki Kazuya
Number 3, Yuuki Tetsuya
Number 4, Kominato Ryosuke
Number 5, Masuko Tooru
Number 6, Kuramochi Youichi
Number 7, Sakai Ichirou
Number 8, Isashiki Jun
"Number 9, Sawamura Esumi." Kataoka announced. Esumi stiffened a bit, feeling the envious stares from her brother and Furuya. Esumi stepped up to the coach, taking the tag from his hands. She bowed her head, before returning to the line.
"Number 9, wow. Nothing less from Esumi-chan."
"Before, wasn't she number 16?"
Number 10, Kawakami Norifumi
"Number 11, Furuya Satoru." The freshman monster was called next. Esumi glanced to the side, seeing the three freshman boys looking shocked. Furuya kept his stoic expression, but still radiated the proud aura. "Make sure you attend your detention." Kataoka had said whilst handing the freshman his tag.
"So he's number 11." Haruichi looked at the male in between his and Eijun.
"In spring, he was only number 18."
"Quite the advancement too."
Number 12, Miyauchi Keisuke
Number 13, Katota Masaaki
Number 14, Kusaoki Fumiya
Number 15, Higasa Shouji
Number 16, Tanaka Shin
Number 17, Endou Naoki
Number 18, Yamazaki Kunio
"Number 19, Kominato Haruichi." The pink haired first year smiled a bit, and happily received his bib.
"Number 20," Kataoka began. Esumi glanced at her brother, already knowing that he'd be called. She saw him inhale. 'Oh goodness..' Esumi closed her eyes. "Sawa--"
"YES!" Eijun yelled, already standing in front of Kataoka. Esumi could see the pure joy on her twin's face.
"You're quick..." Kataoka muttered, giving the idiot pitcher his tag.
"THANK YOU!" Eijun yelled one last time before running toward his teammates. He was too happy to notice Kuramochi and Miyuki laughing at him. "What an idiot.." The catcher and shortstop gasped in between breaths. 'I'm glad..I really got one.' Eijun thought to himself and held the tag close to his chest.
"Chris will keep the score...I'm counting on you." Kataoka announced, turning to the third year catcher. Chris smiled and replied with a 'yes'. "Also, Miss Managers, you helped us a great deal too. You're also part of the team. Please cheer from the stand with the other players." Kataoka pulled out separate jerseys for the managers to wear during matches.
"I think you all understand, but there's nothing after this high school baseball." Kataoka turned back to look at his students. "The daily efforts, they shed sweat and tears. Everything is for the sake of this summer." Every one of the Seidou baseball members became serious as the speech was coming to an end. "Okay! Let's do the usual!"
"YES!"
The newly lined up regulars formed a circle and placed their right hand over their hearts. Esumi was standing in between Jun and Kawakami, in accordance to her tag number. She smiled, seeing her brother across from her, and looking utterly confused.
Yuuki took a breath, and pointed to himself. "Who are we-?"
"WE THE KING, SEIDOU!!" the rest yelled at the top of their lungs.
"Who shed more sweat than anyone else?"
"SEIDOU!!"
"Who shed more tears than anyone else?"
"SEIDOU!!"
"Who loves baseball more than anyone else?"
"SEIDOU!!"
"ARE YOU READY TO FIGHT!?"
"OHH!"
"WITH THE PRIDE OF OUR SCHOOL IN OUR CHEST! WE STRIVE TO CONQUER THE NATION!" Yuuki pointed up the the skies.
"LET'S GO!!" Everyone yelled following their captain's same movements. "OHHHH!"
