mistletoe
Rami watched in awe as Lexi continued to decorate her Orlando apartment with Christmas decorations. Since he didn't celebrate the holiday, he was not used to the time spent into making the day great.
Others went all out with the holiday, but she liked to be subtle: changing out the throw pillows, lining little trinkets across the entertainment set, and even having a small fake tree in the corner of the room. It was adorned with mostly generic ornaments, along with some Disney themed and others that she had growing up. A couple presents wrapped in red and gold sat under it; Rami was surprised to see his name on a couple of them.
One things that really interested him, though, was the small tuff of green and red that she pinned over the front door. He rose from his seat on the couch to get a better look at it. The greenery was very odd, he'll admit.
"What is this?" His head cocked to the side out of curiosity. Lexi looked at him over her shoulder from her spot in the kitchen. She put down the red frosting she was piping onto some cookies to see what he was questioning. When she noticed it was the mistletoe, she couldn't help but smile.
"That's mistletoe."
"Mistletoe?" He looked down at her, still confused as ever. She let out a giggle, amused by his child-like wonder.
"You've never heard of mistletoe?" He shook his head at that. She nipped at her bottom lip, believing he was in for quite the treat, "Well, it's a tradition; I know my family has been doing it since I was little, and a lot of my friends' families do it to. Basically, it's a plant that is hung up over an entrance where people won't notice it."
"People don't notice it? Why?" He was very confused by the whole concept at this point.
"It's a part of the tradition, it'll make sense shortly." She reassured him, to which he nodded, "The whole idea is to have two people get caught under it, like this," She placed her hands on his arms and maneuvered him under the greenery. His eyes looked up at it, watching as she positioned him where she wanted him.
"Okay, now what?" When he looked back down at her, he noticed a change in her expression.
A light pink blush came over her cheeks as her hands wrapped around his neck. Before he could ask questions, she rose on her tip toes and placed a kiss on his lips. The sudden affection threw him off, but he closed his eyes and enjoyed the moment. As soon as it began, he felt empty as she pulled away, her blush intensifying. He felt warm across his face too.
"What was that for?" He asked, just as confused as before. Lexi let out a giggle and pointed up. The mistletoe.
"That's what the mistletoe is: when two people find themselves under it, they have to kiss one another. It's an more abstract tradition, but it's fun to see who gets caught. One time, I found Rebecca and Fergal under it; it was cute, really."
As she marveled in her handiwork, Rami took the opportunity to lean down and place another kiss on her pink cheek. Her smile grew from that, causing his heart to flutter.
"Even though I don't celebrate it, this may be my favorite Christmas traditions."
"You're such a dork." She playfully slapped his chest, before heading back into the kitchen for her treats. Rami followed in step with her, offering a hand. Lexi handed him a container of white frosting, but not before piping some on his nose. After the festivities, they almost didn't have enough to decorate the many batches she made.
I hope you enjoyed this one shot, even if it was shorter than the others. How did I do? Let me know in the comments. Thanks for reading. And until next time, heart you. <3
