Regardless of the Circumstances
I don't know why, but with you I'd dance in a storm with my best dress, fearless.

"Tadaima!" Shun yelled from the door, announcing his arrival.
He just wanted to lie right there on the floor. The raindrops falling from his hair and coat left clear evidence of where he had stood; it had come unannounced, and in mid-February he was expecting snow, not water. That had just been the last misfortune of his crappy afternoon. First, he delayed at work, not because of endless patients for a change, but for a mountain of undone paperwork. When he was finally released from his desk work slavery, he could not even get a cab home, and just when he resigned himself and started to walk back to their apartment, the sky suddenly fell upon him.
"Are you okay?" Hyoga asked, trying to hide his amused smirk from his exhausted husband.
"No," Shun stated firmly. "The weather is mad, and so am I!" He yelled, throwing his arms in the air, leaving his wet leather portfolio on the floor. "I need a bath."
Hyoga smiled; he imagined his husband's state of mind when he heard him over the phone. Shun hated paperwork as much as he loved watermelons, and that, plus the crazy traffic and a random rain, did nothing to help Shun see the glass half full. It was best to give him space. Shun could be all love and tender, but enough was enough, and he was still Ikki's brother, so the bad temper ran through his veins as well.
Once Shun got out of the shower, Hyoga took a glance through the half-open bedroom door to see if his lovely man was in a better mood.
Who cares if he wasn't? He was half naked! He was going to let himself in anyway!
Hyoga approached him naturally, but carefully, in case he was still upset; but when the green eyes met the blue ones with a sincere smile, Hyoga breathed a sigh of relief.
"Did you turn on your Whatever Mode?" Hyoga asked, tracing with his fingers the marked muscles that wrapped his husband's arms.
"My what now?" Shun frowned, letting out a chuckle.
Hyoga laughed. "You did it once in high school," he explained, "we were at the arcade, Seiya and Shiryu had left earlier; they still needed to finish their science project. You and I stayed a bit longer since we'd already finished it."
Shun smiled. "Yeah, you got the deadline wrong and made us finish the thing a day earlier."
Hyoga let out a loud laugh. "You always know better; you could've told me I was wrong; you decided to flow with me."
Shun shrugged. "You have that effect on me."
They both smiled, then Hyoga continued with his story.
"When we left the arcade, it started raining, like, a real storm..."
"And you pulled me towards you and covered us with your jacket," Shun remembered with a grin.
"Then we started running to escape the rain. You suddenly stopped; I genuinely thought you had fallen or something," Hyoga chuckled, then searched for Shun's hand with his and intertwined their fingers together. "I asked you what was wrong, you said: Whatever! We're already wet anyway," Hyoga concluded, laying a soft kiss upon Shun's hand. "And there you have it. Whatever Mode."
Shun laughed; Hyoga wasn't usually a funny guy, but sometimes he had his moments, just like that one, just with him.
"I can't believe you remember all that," Shun added, wrapping his arms around Hyoga's neck.
"I'm offended you don't," Hyoga replied, bringing Shun closer to him, surrounding him by the waist.
"But I do! Just... not all the details." Shun leaned onto Hyoga's lips, pressing them softly. "The truth is... the Whatever Mode is only on when you're with me."
Hyoga frowned.
"I really don't care what happens, as long as you're around." The lips collided again, battling more roughly.
Perhaps that was why Shun lost it out there; he was alone and left to cope on his own, not that he couldn't do it, but every burden was lighter with Hyoga by his side. He could tackle a thousand enemies, fall a million times, and dance under the rain, completely fearless. Once home with him, surrounded by him, wrapped between his arms, with those eyes he couldn't deny anything, those naughty hands, those exquisite lips, everything was better; everything was safe.
"Next time you stay over hours, I'll pick you up," Hyoga suggested with a smile. The lovely moment was interrupted by a funny sneeze from Shun. "Oh, I hope you haven't caught a cold..." he expressed, preoccupied.
Shun shook his head with a grin. "Don't worry." Another sneeze interrupted the statement.
"Well..." Hyoga sighed. "I guess you're not going anywhere tomorrow."
"Whatever, I'll stay home with you."
