Favorite Ninja: Jay - I have a soft spot for wise-cracking, speedster/lightning characters.
Favorite Season: Season 12 - I used to be an avid gamer, so this season was super fun for me. I enjoyed all the gaming references and easter eggs (The cake is a lie, Leeroy Jenkins, etc.) Also the animation team really stepped it up this season. The story boarding, sequencing, character and background design, soundtrack, it was all *kiss chef*. I have more reasons why I like this season, but . . . spoilers.
Least Favorite Season: I like them all, but maybe Season 7 is my least favorite of the bunch. We learned a lot of interesting things, but time travel has to be done right (looking at you Season 6). Elemental masters of time is too OP.
Wanted Elemental Power: Amber - In season 9 we learned that Skylor can combine elemental powers, so does that mean if she pulls power from the core 4 (Jay, Kai, Zane and Cole) she can create the Golden Power?
Most Overrated Season: Season 11? It seems like everyone agrees this season fell flat, so maybe not overrated. I had fun, lots of fanservice, but the pacing of the Ice Chapter was off; dragged on and then the ending was rushed.
Most Underrated Season: Wu's Teas
Favorite Villain: Harumi - Holy cow she was a manipulative mastermind, and did a number on Lloyd too. She is one of those villains you love to hate.
Thoughts on Season 13: Looks like fun! Hope I don't get spoiled.
Thoughts on Day of the Departed: Too short, needed at least 30 more minutes.
Idea for a Season: It is Jay and Nya's wedding, and everything that could go wrong, does go wrong. Imagine this opening sequence:
Kai stared at the borg phone in his hand. He was about to make the most dreaded phone call of his entire life.
Dialing Nya . . .
"Kai?" she sounded exasperated, and rightfully so. "Where are you guys, I am freaking out!"
"Nya," he started. He was tired, exhausted, beat up, and a million things were going wrong. There was no way to dance around the issue or soften the blow.
"We messed up." His voice cracked as he uttered the words.
"What? What are you talking about?"
There was really no other way to say it, so he just says it.
"We lost Jay."
"What??!!"
"We can't find Jay." There was a pause on the other side of the line. Kai winced, anticipating what was going to come next.
"What are you saying Kai? We are getting married in five hours!!"
Kai rubbed his aching head. He turned to look at the others, Cole, Zane and Lloyd, who were milling around the Land Bounty, thankful they were the ones who didn't have to call Nya.
"Yeah . . ." he drawled out, "That's not going to happen."
In case you are wondering yes, that is the opening to the movie The Hangover. However, this is where the plot of the season diverges slightly from the movie.
Next scene we flashback to 48 hours prior, where the team plus friends and family are finalizing preparations for the banquet in downtown Ninjago City. After the rehearsal dinner, the boys - Jay, Kai, Cole, Zane, and Lloyd, go to Laffy's Karaoke to celebrate, and also as a way to hang out together as bachelors, because the team dynamic is going to change soon. Meanwhile Nya, the bridesmaids, close friends and family go back to Ignacia (their hometown) to prepare for the ceremony.
The boys at Laffy's don't party crazy, but then we fast forward to the morning. Kai, Zane, Cole, and Lloyd wake up in an abandoned warehouse, fuzzy, beat up, and have no memory of the previous night. They are confused as to what happened, pretty sure they didn't party hard, but try to collect themselves to head to Ignacia for final wedding prep. Something like this:
Lloyd slowly opened his eyes. His head was pounding, for some reason the ground was vertical, and his elemental power felt weird, like someone had ripped the magic out of him then haphazardly stuffed it back in. He moved to get up, his face peeling off the warehouse floor like pulling tape off a cardboard box. Once he was up, he moved to inspect his surroundings, only to immediately trip over Kai.
"Control yourself," Kai mumbled as he rolled over, half registering that he was on a gross warehouse floor. After a moment Kai sat up and looked around, confused as Lloyd. Cole and Zane were also on the ground, slowly stirring.
"Why does my head feel like someone split it in half?" Cole questioned as he sat up.
"Me too," Zane chimed in, "I was unaware nindroids could get headaches."
Kai reached to rub his temple. "Who knows and who cares. Come one let's get to Ignacia before Nya blows a gasket at us."
"Agreed," Lloyd said, "Cole, wake up Jay and let's go."
Cole looked around the warehouse, not seeing the Blue Ninja. "Ugh, he probably fell asleep in a weird spot." After a few minutes of searching, Cole reported back to the rest of the team. "I found Jay's nunchucks, but no Jay."
Kai was still holding his head. "We are wasting time. Call his cell so we can get out of here."
Zane dialed Jay's cell phone, and seconds later they heard the ringtone of Jay's phone. Cole followed the sound to the source, only to find the phone and no ninja.
"Um, I don't think Jay is here," Cole finally broke the ice, saying what they were all thinking.
The team starts to freak out, wondering if they lost Jay or if he got cold feet and bolted. They go back to Laffy's to look for clues, and the four of them go on a wild adventure trying to piece together what happened the night before and find Jay. They avoid Nya's calls because they don't want to freak her out, but communicate with P.I.X.A.L and Skylor looking for clues. The season would focus mostly on Kai, Zane, Cole and Lloyd, with Jay and Nya as side characters.
They finally figure out that they had been chasing down a villain the whole night, only to be attacked and have their memories wiped in the abandoned warehouse. The enemy uses a vicious electrical/magical attack to knock them out, but Jay uses his powers to try to deflect damage from the rest of the team. The enemy lands a sucker punch on Jay, TKOing him, then abducting him.
Nya finally gets fed up being mislead and lied to about why the boys are not back in Ignacia. She joins them as they go to rescue Jay. Imagine bridezilla.
They finally have the wedding, although a little delayed (last part of final episode of the season). I would prefer to see an Eastern Asian style wedding instead of a Western style wedding. We have already seen a Western style wedding in the show, and I think Nya might have some PTSD about wearing a white dress and walking down the aisle. I image the wedding going something like this (based off a modern Chinese style wedding):
Jay and his entourage (groomsmen, family, and close friends) go to the bride's hometown to collect the bride. They announce their presence by lighting a bunch of firecrackers. Then the groomsmen are stopped by the bridesmaids and must complete several challenges. They can be anything ranging from physical challenges (do 200 pushups) to mental challenges (quiz on how well you know the bride). Once Jay and the groomsmen (Cole, Kai, Zane, and Lloyd) pass the challenges, they are allowed into Nya's parents house to collect her.
Inside the house, the tea ceremony is performed. Jay and Nya serve tea to their parents and extended family. Once tea is served, Jay can call Nya's parents "mom" and "dad", likewise for Nya, signifying they are now part of each other's families. The tea ceremony is the marriage ceremony. Then everyone goes to Ninjago City for the banquet, where they are met with the rest of the wedding guests. Since Jay and Nya are celebrities, I would imagine there would be 500 - 1,000 guests at the banquet. Super sweet, fluffy ending.
And that's it, that's the season. If I have time, I might write this as a multi-chapter story. Is this something you want to read?
