Heat. Unbearable, suffocating heat. Red, orange and yellow danced across my vision, and licked at the wood. Fire. I hugged my wings close to my back, and hid in the corner of my cell. I let out a whimper, scared, and helpless. I was stuck.

I heard screams, and wails of the other Hybrids. They were stuck too. Then, suddenly, the door of my cell was flung open. The silhouette of someone stood in the doorway. But the room was divided by the burning flames.

The person took a running leap over the flames, and landed next to me. I saw wings on his back.

"Your a hybrid." I whispered. He looked at me.

"Yes." He said. "I'm James."

"AP930." I answered. He nodded in response, and then put his hand out for me to take. I grabbed it, and he lifted me up. I made sure my left leg didn't touch the ground. I leaned heavily on the wall. James' face turned worried.

"What happened to your leg?" He asked. I winced.

"It's broken." I said. "That's why I can't get out." He looked around the room quickly, and grabbed the thin sheet behind me.

"Let me see." He said softly.

"What about the fire?" I asked.

"It's fine, this won't take long."

"Ok..." I leaned against the wall, and he wrapped the sheet around my leg tightly. I hissed through my teeth.

"Almost done." He reassured me. "There." The sheet was around my leg, and prevented it from bending.

"Thanks." I said.

"No problem," he answered, and swept me off my feet, well, foot, and into his arms. I squeaked in surprise.

"What are you doing?" I said.

"You can't walk, can you?"

"No..."

"Then how do you think your gonna get out?"

"Oh." I said, realizing why he picked me up. "Thank you."

"Don't thank me yet." He said, "We still have to get out of here alive" He jumped over the flames.

I was finally going to be free!
