Lucille and Marianne - Decepticons Attack!
Freshman year had flew by quickly, and we were now coming to an end with our sophomore year. Cade and I weren’t dating, even though we would often flirt with each other it didn’t lead to dating.
It was the last day of school and I was cleaning out my locker, stuffing everything in the garbage bag I had brought with me today. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned around, coming face to chest with Cade.
I looked up at my best friend and crush, he had grown a lot since we first met almost two years ago, with a grin on my face. “Hey Cade! You need anything?” I ask him, setting the trash bag down beside my feet.
That’s when I noticed the worried look on his face, and it made something inside me tense because he was rarely worried about anything… “Lucy, listen to me. I know it may sound crazy, but don’t go home tonight.” He says, grabbing my shoulders.
What was he getting at? “Cade, what’s wrong? Why can’t I go home tonight? My mom is expecting me home tonight, since we’ve been planning a movie night for a month now.” I said, looking at my best friend with confusion.
Cade glances around before his gaze returned to me, and he gripped my shoulders a little tighter. “Just trust me Lucy, don’t go home tonight. I can’t tell you why, but just trust me.” He whispers.
I shook my head and pulled away from him, giving him a look. “I’m sorry Cade, but I have to get home to my mom. If anything is happening tonight, I want to be there to warn her. Is this some joke? An end of the year prank? Because it’s not funny.” I snap, picking up the trash bag and continuing to clean my locker out.
Cade shook his head and grabbed my shoulder, only ending with me shrugging it off. “It’s not a joke Lucy, I’m not messing around here. Don‘t go home, don’t warn your mom.” He says, pleading with me.
I let out a frustrated sigh and turn around, jabbing my finger into his chest. “Don’t tell me what to do Cade, I’m going home tonight and I’m warning my mother. If anything happens tonight, I’m blaming you.” I growled out, before picking my bag up and slamming my locker shut.
Leaving my friend behind, I threw the trash bag in the garbage can and walked out of the school. I walked home, saving my mother the trouble from coming and picking me up herself. I can’t believe Cade, trying to keep me from warning my mother from a stupid prank or something…
- Later that night -
I was sitting beside my mother on the couch, all the lights off. We were watching Titanic together, and we were both regretting it at the moment. The movie was sad enough to make both of us cry.
We were interrupted by the sound of a jet, the sound of a police car, and some strange sound I had never heard before. It sounded like something was… was… transforming?
My mother shot up and rushed towards the window, peeking through the blinds. A soft gasp escaped her, before she rushed back over to me and yanked me off the couch before pulling me down the hall and into her room.
“Mom, what’s going on?” I ask, fear and confusion welling up in me at the scared look on my mother’s face. Never before had I ever seen her scared, so it scared me a lot to see her scared.
“No time to explain Lucille. Here, take this.” She says, pushing a small bag into my chest before handing me a letter. I knew this wasn’t a joke, hearing her call me by my full name. “Lucille, you need to go to this address. It’s the base your uncles work at. Tell them your name, my name, and your uncles’ name and you’ll get in. Tell them the Decepticons attacked the house.” she says, writing the address on my arm.
I nodded my head as tears welled up in my eyes. “Mom, what about you? What’s going to happen to you?” I asked, as she shoved me towards the window of her room. “I can’t leave you behind, not if they are hostile…” I trail off, my mother opening the window.
“I’ll be fine Lucille, you just worry about yourself. You get out of here, and you go to your uncles. They’ll explain everything to you.” She says, grabbing my face and kissing my forehead quickly but softly. “Now go, be safe my daughter.”
Climbing through the window, I nodded my head and smiled sadly at her. “Bye mom, I promise I’ll come back for you as soon as I get to my uncles.” I whispered, climbing down from the window and rushing across the backyard.
Looking back, my jaw fell open at the sight of giant robots standing in front of my house. What was going on? Were these the… the ‘Decepticons’ my mother had talked about? I shook my head and raced onto the street, swiftly running down the street.
I was caught off by the sound of something firing, and I barely missed getting hit by whatever it was. I screamed and swerved right, racing down the sidewalk instead. I heard them shoot again, and this time it was close enough that if I had been a few inches over I wouldn’t be standing here at the moment.
I glanced around for somewhere to get away through, when I noticed an open sewer drain. I’m glad that the construction happening here lately involved the storm drain being open.
I climbed down the ladder and raced down the sewers. Maybe I’ll see giant mutant ninja turtles… wait, that was in New York. There went the happiness to being stuck in the sewers, running for my life from the ‘Decepticons,’ whatever they were.
