Questions
That answer? That will be discovered through the other clues. Now, I asked a question: Do you plan to kill me? I really didn't want to know the answer, but it came: Not you, Ruby. That lead to Avery's first question: Do you plan to kill Alex and I? That answer came quickly: Yes. I look over to find a tear rolling down her face. She isn't ready to die. None of us are. Alex stares at the floor. I choose to send my next question: When will this end? The answer comes shortly: The day I die. Comforting.... Alex pulls out his phone and sends his last question: How can I save myself? The answer made my heart drop: Help me kill Ruby's friends. Alex shakes his head.
"I guess I'm gonna die then," He says. Avery finally decides to send her last question. It's: How will you kill Alex and I? That's not an answer I wanted to know, but I found myself reading it over her shoulder. Alex will be choked to death as Ruby watches. I'll make sure she's helpless watching him turn blue until he passes out. You'll die a slow death. Don't worry, I'll wait for the baby to be born. After you give birth in my basement, I'll take the baby and keep it. Next, I'll rape you until you bleed. Then, I'll take a knife and slowly cut off your breasts until you bleed to death. Just after I finish reading it, Avery falls to the floor. She curls up in a ball and rocks back in forth. Cody sits down next to her and tries to comfort her. I pull Alex into a hug, I can feel a tear fall from my face. Alex squeezes me and we rock side to side. A guard interrupts us.
"The museum is closing soon," He says. Avery stumbles up and we leave the exhibit. Walking to my car, I get a text, Next clue:

No one has any idea what it is, so we click on it. I'm directed to a website of a market in New York City. It looks like we're going to New York in the morning. I unlock my car and drive to this random hotel. It's not 5 stars but it's wasn't a dump either. Avery buys a room with two queen beds and we ride the elevator to it. She unlocks the door before we all stumble in.
"Who's sharing?" Alex asks.
"I can share with anyone. Avery's my best friend. Alex is my boyfriend and Cody's my brother." I respond.
"Ruby, share with Alex. Cody and I know each other, but neither of us know Alex," Avery says. Cody smirks.
"Works for me," He says. I peel back the sheet and crawl in on the left side. Alex slides in on the right, far away from me. Cody and Avery lie near each other, oddly enough. You'd figure the actual couple would lie closed to each other than the childhood friends.
I slowly drift to sleep, it's late and I haven't slept well in a while. Before I know it, it's 1 am. I jerk awake, breathing heavy from my bad dream. I take slow breaths to calm myself, but Alex sits up.
"You okay?" He asks.
"I'm fine, it was just a bad dream." I respond, trying to sound less shaken. He gives me a weak smile as I lie down. He flips to face me and plays with my hair. I scoot a little closer and he puts his hand on my ribs. I decide we aren't close enough and I scoot even closer. We now lie directly next to each other, in a hug. His arms around me, mine around him. With him holding me, I start to sob. He squeezes me, until I calm down. His hand moves my head up from his chest so I can see him. He wipes my tears, his eyes starting to water. I press my lips against his and he pulls my head towards his. I pull back and smile.
"I really like you, Alex." I whisper. In the darkness I see him grin.
"I really like you too, Ruby." He says before lying his head back on the pillow. I take a deep breath and fall asleep in his arms. Talking wakes me up in the morning. I open my eyes and see Alex grinning. I sit up and find Avery standing at the end of our bed.
"Morning, sleepy head." Alex says. I roll my eyes as Avery giggles.
"It must be a family trait, Cody is dead asleep too. He didn't even roll over when I got up." Avery says.
"Huh. How long have you two been awake?" I ask. Alex shifts in position.
"I've been up for an hour, but Alex was up before me," Avery answers.
"Why didn't you move?" I ask Alex who stretches beside me.
"I didn't want to wake you," He says. Avery laughs.
"I need me a man like that," she responds. I kiss Alex's cheek.
"Sorry, he's mine." I say before rolling out of bed. Alex sits there dumbfounded, a smirk across his face. I stretch, waking up more. Cody wakes up soon and we ride the elevator to the top floor where breakfast awaits. It's a buffet, so Cody loads up. I take it slowly, but find myself having two plates. After breakfast, we walk into the small gift shop. The weather in New York was much different than the weather in Maine, so we needed to find ourselves new outfits. Our jeans and long sleeves weren't going to be the best fit. Maine hasn't warmed up yet, but apparently New York has. None of us brought clothing appropriate for New York so we each got ourselves a full gift shop outfit. I grab a thong and bikini top as my undergarments. I grab a yellow dress. It's meant to be a swimsuit cover up, but it'll work. I see Avery with a matching thong and similar bikini top. Her top? It's a pink tank top. Her bottoms? Floral flowy shorts. It's a train wreck. Alex holds a white polo shirt with the hotel's logo embroidered on the breast pocket. He also has a pair of swim trunks that look remotely like kakis, but if you get close enough, you realize their swim trunks. Cody has a red "Harper Beach" tee shirt with red and blue patterned swim trunks. We check out and ride the elevator back to our hotel room. Avery showers first as Cody, Alex and I wait.
Alex puts his arm around me and I lean into him. Cody stands up and announces that he's still hungry and going to get food. Once he shuts the door I slide my arms around Alex's neck.
"Thank you," I say, pressing my forehead to his. He tilts his chin to mine, our lips touching. My heart flutters, he puts his hand just above my butt. I want him to move it down. I pull back for air, grinning wide. I press my lips against his once more, desperate.
"Awe. Cute. Now take a shower," Avery says sarcastically from behind us. I pull away, but Cody walks in.
"My turn!" He shouts. Avery dries her hair and combs it through. She glares at us.
"Don't start kissing again. It's gross." She says. I laugh and lean back into Alex. He plays with my hair, messing it up a little. I've know him for a week, but there's this feeling I can't describe. My heart flutters and I feel awfully nervous. It's beautiful.
