Alex

The school day passes, Avery by my side. She won't stop teasing me about Alex. I told her about our coffee date, which has been decided to be at Haven Coffee tomorrow. My brother greets me at the door..

"Did you tell anyone?" He asks. I put my bags down.
"No, nor am I going to." I remark. I take out my binder as he continues.
"You need to, Ruby. If you don't, I will." He threatens I shake my head.
"No, you won't. He threatened to blow up our house and our school. Don't you dare." I say. He scoffs.
"That's another reason to tell the police." He begs. I shake my head, stubborn.
"No. Cody, leave it alone." I flop on the couch and start my homework. My phone buzzes and Cody picks it up before I get a chance to. He reads the message out loud.
"Hey, Ruby? Can you call me something happened..." He says. I look up at him.
    "Who's it from?" I ask.
"Uh, Alex?" Was his response. I snatch my phone.
"I'll be back." I step onto the front porch and call him.

"Hey...What's going on?" I ask.
"I got a text, Ruby." Alex says.
   "From the murderer?" I ask.
"Yes, can you come here? They sent me a package too.." He says. I run in the house and grab my keys.
"I'm coming. Don't open it." I say. Cody stares, before speaking.
"Where are you going?" He asks. I open the door.
"Long story." I slam it and dash to my car. Alex texts me an address as I'm driving. I plug it into my GPS and arrive at a dorm complex. I walk up the stairs and down the hall. I see him room and knock, he opens the door.
"Ruby. I know we just met, but I think that this..." He says.
"Is my fault? Yes, it is." I finish. I shut the door and see his dorm mate pacing.
    "You told him?" I ask.
"Yes? He's the one who found the package," Alex says, breaking a sweat. He hands me his phone and I read the message.

I see you and Ruby are getting closer. I figured that you'd rather me keep you alive. Now you're just like Ruby. First friend dead? You'll see in the morning.

"Oh, that's bad," I say, stating the obvious. He runs is hands through his hair.
"What do I do?" He asks, paving. I grab the scissors on the table.
"I don't know. Let's find out what in this thing." I say. He walks to me as I slice open the box. I open the box and find a small paper, "Enjoy." I pick up the letter and set it aside. There's a lunch sized bag of Doritos in it. I open the bag, stupidly. I look inside and about faint. I drop the bag and Alex picks it up.
"What's in it?" He asks. I let him find out himself. He screams and drops the bag. His roommate stares.
"What is it?" He says, horrifically. I uncover my mouth.
"A finger." I mutter, His roommate walks over and picks up bag.
"Is it real?" He asks, almost a grin on his face. I shrug. He pulls it out, "Oh, it's real. Interesting." I glare at Alex.
"He's going to school to be an autopsy technician," Alex says, calmly.
"Oh, So are we going to figure out who's it is or are we just going to stand here and stare at it?" I ask. The roommate drops it back into the bag.
"Um, how do we figure it out?" Someone bangs on the door.

The roommate opens it, it's the RA, "Is everything okay? I heard a scream?" He says.
"Uh, no," Alex answers. The RA asks about it. Alex just hands him the finger. The RA proceeds to scream. Throughout all this, Alex's roommate introduces himself.
     "I'm Zane," he said.
    "Ruby." I respond.

After we convince the RA it's fake, he leaves.
"We're telling the cops," Alex says.
"Essie cops or Concord cops?" I ask.
"Oh, she's from Essie. That's why I've never seen her," Zane blurts.
"Uh, that depends if your going to tell the cops or not. Essie if you are too, Concord if it's just me," Alex answers.
    "Essie." I decide.
"I'll drive," Alex volunteers. Zane decides not to come with. I get into his car, it's small and silver. It's not bad. He pulls out of the parking lot, "Okay. Ruby, this is going to be interesting." I get a text.
"Uh, Alex?" I question. He keeps his eyes on the road.
"Hm?" He says as I scan the text.
"I just got a text..." I read it aloud.

Would you look at that? Alex and Ruby on a road trip to tell the cops. Don't you remember what I said? Here's a reminder: No cops. Here's why: I have bombs on your houses and schools. I could hit the button right now, if I wanted to. I will, don't try me. You must think I won't do it. I will. Do you still want to tell the cops now?

Alex sighs, "School is out. Just call your family and tell them to leave. I'll call in a bomb threat." We pull over and make our calls. Cody was already out with friends. The bomb threat has been put in place. We pull up to ten police station. The secretary glares at us.
"What do you two want?" She comments. I swallow, scared.
"I'm one of the two girls..." Her eyes go wide.
"I'll be back with an officer." A man, the sheriff looks at us.
"Show me." He commands. I hand over my phone. He taps it, "Stop! No, you stupid thing! Stop!" I look at him.
"What happened?" I ask. He frowns.
     "The messages were wiped clean."

At that moment, the building shook. I look out my window to see a huge fire. I look at Alex, "The bombs."
