Sapphire

It was a bit awkward playing flute with a wolf's head placed on your lap. It felt neutral, surprisingly. I didn't feel any discomfort at all. Maybe because it was the fact that my mother had told me a long time ago.

I was just sitting comfortably on my position, doing the usual thing, when all of a sudden I heard rustling noises. I have came up with a conclusion that it might be another squirrel. But sadly, my thoughts were incorrect. Instead of a chattering squirrel, there was a wolf. A brown wolf that is clearly the size of a bear... but a few inches larger. I can't help but stumble backwards a few steps because of fear that it's going to eat me.

If I could, I would've screamed my throats out... and I'm starting to remorse the fact that I have no voice.

Surprisingly, I found this wolf friendly.

So, I continued to play my flute in its usual tune and got lost with the music myself. When I finally realized that it was time to leave, I petted the wolf in the head. I can feel something towards it . . . but I can't quite put a finger on it. There was some sort of connection. Like, when I stared straight into his oddly grayish-silver colored eyes . . .

I was starting to wish that I can speak. I want to give him a name and speak out mine . . . but it seemed impossible so I just smiled at him and mentally called him Darwin. I was able to distinguish his gender because of the body built. He was clearly a male because of his broad, muscled composure. If it were a girl, the body would've been more feminine . . . either thinner, smaller or just the average curvy form.

While starting to walk back with my flute in, I felt a small nudge on my back which made me stumble forwards a few steps. I looked back behind me, spotting the wolf whimpering while ducking his head down. I smiled at him and crouched down to give him a warm hug. He felt so comfy, his fur felt so soft that I didn’t even want to break away. The hug lasted a few minutes before I coerced myself to tear away and began jog back to my home.

I really wish I could talk to him though. Thank him for the wonderful company he had given me and of course . . . share him my thoughts. But being voiceless that seemed impossible. Wolves couldn’t read, right?

If possible I want to take him home with me. Although having a wolf as a pet as big as that will only freak Aunt Farris out. Besides, I don't think he'll want to be caged in a small house. Wolves are meant to be free, living in the forest.

As I finally reached the backdoor, I tilted my head to the side and spared the forest my last glance before heading inside to warm up from the coldness and receive my breakfast and help with my last morning chores. Aunt Farris clearly understand about my daily 'session' deep inside the woods and eventually let me do my 'thing' as long as I help do the housework afterwards.

A pair of grayish-silver eyes caught mine. It was the wolf. I can’t help but think he followed me home.

I flashed a short-lived smile and eventually scurried inside my house. The weather was excruciatingly freezing, and I needed a steaming cup of hot chocolate . . . in an instant! After dusting off the dirt on my boots and slipped it off, leaving me to my socks, I hurriedly walked towards the kitchen and stopped by the doorway, instantly spotting Aunt Farris brewing her own steaming cup of coffee and Rosy holding two mugs on her hands. She was stirring the second one and the steam from what looked like . . . hot chocolate . . . curled from the mug and faded in the air

I ran towards the living room and took hold of my bag which I usually place on the ground, leaning by the wall. I zipped it open and slipped my flute inside. Zipping it back up and gently placing my bag back down on the floor, I left it while rushing back into the kitchen.

I licked my lips hungrily and pounced on the counter for the hot chocolate. Rosy just happen to have her back turned at me while Aunt Farris was blowing her hot beverage, looking at me with a brow cocked questioningly on her forehead. She also happens to be in her favorite position, which is sitting crossed-leg on a stool. She was wearing her uniform which is a set of clothes mainly composed of her white blouse topped with her long-sleeved, black blazer, then paired with her female trousers and high-heeled shoes.

I grabbed the mug of hot chocolate, surprising Rosy. She looked startled but frowned after when she spotted me fiddling with the handle of the mug. I raised the beverage in between my lips and took the longest sip I ever had on my whole life. I sighed in the coziness, feeling the warm drink rush down my throat. Low chuckles came on either side of me and I grinned sheepishly at both Aunt Farris and Rosy.

“You have something around your mouth . . .” Aunt Farris sang, her voice mingling with small fits of laughter while keeping her eyes down at the cup of coffee. I can see the coy smile playing on her lips. They both laughed quietly while I just smiled and wiped off the remains of chocolate around my mouth with the back of my hand.

Rosy shook her head and chugged down her drink without even stopping for a breath. I chugged down my entire drink all in one time and gathered the dishes in front of the faucet. Apparently, I never realized that I have been in the forest for so long that I didn’t even notice that breakfast is ready. There was a plate laid on the counter with two toasts, a scrambled egg and four pieces of bacons. I grabbed the egg and bacons then sandwiched them between the two toasts. I took a large bite, sauntered towards the refrigerator door and opened it while holding my food in my hand. I took hold of a bottle of orange juice, popped open the cork and gulped down half of its contents.

I wiped off the wetness around my lips with my sleeves and looked at Rosy. She was bunching up the lasts of her things inside her book bag, mainly her notebooks and books. I always told her to leave her books behind her locker, but she refused to obey me and said that she needed to advance study on all of our subjects to keep her scholarship until she graduates. You see, Rosy’s father left Aunt Farris for another woman that can eventually be my older sister. He left Aunt Farris fending for our survival and she succeeded. She was appointed as CEO on a business company and earns quite a lot of finances for our daily expenses.

I took large bites on my mouth and finished my food and drink in no time. I watched Rosy pushed her glasses upwards which were slowly sliding towards the tip of her nose. She checked the time on her wrist watch and tapped the screen, mumbling something about having only an hour with extra five minutes before school starts.

We are always early, Rosy was so conscious about her punctuality because she doesn’t want to get any tardiness cards. She beckoned me to follow her out since she has now finished preparing everything she needed for today’s lessons. After slipping my boots back on, I followed her and I grabbed my bag along the way then slung it over my shoulder. We got out of the house and hopped on her Beetle, settling down to her comfortable, plush seats. We both buckled our seatbelts and relaxed on our seats as she inserted the key and turned it into ignition.

There was a minute of silence until she tuned up the music from her radio and let the song blast inside her car. She began to bob her head up and down along with the beat of the music and I just can’t help but roll my eyes at the actions that she usually does when we’re out. She looked at me curiously as if I just appeared out of nowhere and sat on her car.

“What’s with the quietness today?” She asked.

I rolled my eyes and started the sign language… “Like duh… of course I’m quiet—“ She cut me off by blabbering once more, sparing me sideway glances while eventually throwing her eyes back on the road to be aware of what is currently going on.

“Because you’re mute.” She finished for me, “Why don’t you try and talk again? I’ve always wanted to hear your voice again. I still remember the time that that you made those crazy babies crying sounds and . . . weird goat imitations.” She finished her sentence with a small chuckle and shook her head.

When we were young, I used to mimic different sounds that I hear . . . I am also good at impersonating celebrity personalities. I was quite good at it, and I don’t know if I still had it in me. “That was a very long time ago… when I still had my voice” I answered, feeling a little bit lost about that topic.

Everything then remained quiet afterwards, only the music blasted from her speakers kept the silence broken around us. There were about fifteen minutes or so before we arrived at school. All those cars really made Candy—Rosy’s car’s name—feel small and outdated. Yet, her yellow color added a very cheery look.

Every vehicle was parked on the parking lot, but something new and quite different caught my eyes. A cool bike.

Darren

In order to ensure that she’s safe, I decided to follow her home. I can smell her scent wafting under my nose and I followed it like a bee attracted to a flower. Seriously, there is nothing more sweet smelling than this scent before. That girl’s hazel brown eyes looked amazingly captivating and mesmerizing. The sight of those eyes flashed repeatedly inside my mind and if I didn’t care I would probably turn into a jelly right now.

Her figure was now ahead of me. I watched as she jogged towards a medium-sized house by the end of the woods—and my pack’s new territory. I was surprised by the urge to hug her and never let go. That flaming red hair can be compared to the flames of a crackling fire. Those eyes can be compared to a melting chocolate. And that smile that she flashed me when she found me hiding behind the bushes watching her saunter back home can be like seeing a bright sparkling light from her pearly-white teeth.

When I was certain that she was home, I ran back to my house and felt myself going faster than I ever had from the past few days. The excitement of seeing her at school was overwhelming. I didn’t even get the reason why I haven’t noticed her around the school grounds from the past week. Her red hair was absolutely eye-catching. I’ve caught glimpse of a redhead from one of my classes, but never did I really put any attention to it. I was so oblivious to the fact that she was just under my nose.

Maybe it's because I just turned eighteen two days ago. As soon as I have my mate by my side, then I'll be the alpha.

Upon arriving home, I trudged upstairs and hopped on a quick bath just to clean off the dirt on my body. After rinsing myself, I wrapped a towel around my waist and rummaged through my closet for a set of nice clothes. Werewolves don't really get cold, we have fast metabolism that allows us to keep warm on weathers like this. But if summer comes around, you can see mostly of us hanging around the beach.

Now that I know who she is, I was quite excited about meeting that girl at school, which made me dress at a random set of clothes, and surprise on how they go well. As I came down the kitchen to eat my breakfast—which I've done so fast—I absentmindedly greeted my parents a good morning. I ate all of the contents inside my plate and left immediately.

“Isn’t it too early for you to go to school?!” I heard my mother call behind me. I spun around, shrugged and walked out of the door.

I didn’t feel like driving my Lexus this morning, so I instead took my bike which I haven’t used for about a week. I opened the garage door and hopped on my bike, inserted the key and twisting it into ignition. The sweet revolve of my engine echoed in my ears and I can’t help but smirk while putting my helmet on.

I was wearing a white t-shirt which I topped off with my black leather jacket and paired with denim jeans and rubber shoes. With my outfit in mind, I drove through the streets in a dash, the roaring sound of my engine bounced off the walls on the street. It only took about a few minutes before I reached the school grounds. I hit the brake and parked my bike on the student's parking lot, pulling out the key. With the sound of my engine dying down, I removed the helmet from my head and shook out my blond hair.

A couple of jocks greeted me from the victorious game last night and I just smiled back at them with the usual thankful look and the line 'I wouldn't be able to do it without you'. I was being sincere, though. It's true.

Though no matter how much I wanted to pay attention to what they're saying, my mind was wandering off about the girl and where could she be.

I was still remorseful to the fact that she was just a few centimeters away from me! I was so ignorant. Or maybe she tried to hide herself away. The fact that the students in this school likes to take care of the weak made me angry.

That time in the woods before I came back home, I can still smell her sweet, enthralling scent wafting under my nostrils. Now that I've picked it up, it will always be a trademark of hers. It'll also be something worth looking for. Her scent was so familiar . . . I've smelled a faint amount of it during my classes. I regretted the fact that I didn't follow her scent . . . It was actually something that won't disappear. I'm such an idiot.

Sitting under the tree with my Daniel beside me, I was busy watching the parking lot for a sign of someone disembarking from their car with red hair while he was busy fiddling with his phone. The spot under the tree a gave a good view of the parking lot for it grew just centimeters away from it.

"What's the cheat code again for one-thousand simoleans?" Daniel nudged my side, his eyes stuck on the screen of his portable laptop.

"Kaching, I guess." I answered then shook my head. Daniel is an absolute Sims 3 addict.

After muttering another question to myself on where could she be, a yellow bug entered the school gates and parked on an available spot beside my bike. My brows puckered on my forehead as a puff of smoke curled from the exhaust, followed by a short huff of the engine which eventually died down after.

Both the doors in front of the car opened and just what I expected, the girl with the flaming red hair stepped out of the car and hauled a bag over her shoulder. She was wearing the same purple coat and black skinny jeans. Her eyes were glued on the girl disembarking the driver's seat but I saw her spare a glimpse on my bike.

She was a cute nerd wearing a yellow trench coat with denim jeans and is currently starring on the screen of her watch at her wrist. The girl she was with turned and looked at the girl in the other side of the car then waved and said something about helping her biology professor prepare for the frog dissection for today. They both closed the door while the nerd girl locked it and jogged towards the school campus, a book bag hanging on her right shoulder.

She looked striking like she did back then.

I guess this is my chance.

I'm sorry if I haven't updated for a long time... I made the chapter longer though and I hoped you all liked it!
