Ego

~ Seoyeon's POV ~

I was currently walking home from school, my shoulders slouched and my lips pouting from the utter loneliness I felt.

Normally, I would head home with either Yerim or Jungkook, but they didn't come back to class after they disappeared to the nurse's office.

The bitter feeling of envy was still tingling inside of me, overwhelming me with angst and apprehension.

I wonder what happened between them after they left.

I wonder if they became friends.

I wonder what Jungkook thinks of her.

All these questions roamed around inside my head, coming up with random assumptions and jumping into conclusions.

I couldn't help but overthink the situation, like the possibility of Jungkook falling for Yerim, or vice versa.

But Yerim has a boyfriend, so she wouldn't be interested in Jungkook right?

On the other hand, nothing would stop Jungkook from attempting to win the heart of a girl he truly likes, knowing his determined personality.

Letting out an irritated groan, I scratched my head in agitation.

Why am I being like this?

Why am I acting like an obsessive little creep?

Why am I so worried about them?

I like Jungkook, I really do.

But I shouldn't let my affection take over me and ruin my precious friendship with Yerim.

Since I was so lost in my overflowing thoughts, I ended up in a small park I often visited whenever I wanted to be by myself.

Gloomily walking over to a bench located under a gigantic tree, I plopped down on it with a distressed sigh escaping from my mouth.

Suddenly, I heard the screech of the tires of a bicycle stop in front of me.

Looking up, I noticed a relatively tall guy wearing a black helmet on a red bicycle staring directly at me.

Feeling slightly awkward from his intense gaze, I timidly looked away from him, anticipating that he would simply go away.

But instead, I heard his footsteps gradually approaching me as he stepped into the grass.

Sensing his large figure situate himself next to me, I anxiously turned my head to face this weirdo.

Taking his helmet off in slow motion, the guy dramatically swept his luscious hair back and met my eyes with his.

"Hey girl." He said, smugly sending me a subtle wink.

Mentally barfing at his arrogance, I attempted to maintain my composure and politely smiled at him.

"Sorry, do I know you?" I curiously asked, wondering why he literally just approached me out of nowhere.

Slightly gasping in a rather fake matter, a mischievous smirk instantly appeared on his face.

"Oh sorry, you just look exactly like my next girlfriend." The guy confidently flirted, causing me to immediately burst into great laughter at his terrible pick-up line.

"Oh god, that was hilarious." I said as I wiped away my tears of laughter.

"I-It wasn't supposed to be funny..." He bashfully muttered with his cheeks red as a tomato, obviously embarrassed at the fact that his flirt didn't work.

"I know, but thanks for making me laugh. I really needed it." I said, warmly smiling at him in appreciation.

"N-No problem?" He shyly replied as he acted rather awkward and timid, completely different from his self-confident character from earlier.

Checking my watch, I gasped as I realized it was already 5:00 pm.

"Crap, I have to go." I said as I hurriedly stood up to leave, but the guy suddenly spoke up and stopped me.

"W-Wait!"

Freezing in my position, I turned around and looked at him in utter bewilderment.

"What's your name?" He curiously asked, standing up from the bench with his black helmet secured in his arms.

I contemplated on whether to tell him or not, but carelessly shrugged it off.

It's not like I'm ever going to see him again, right?

"Choi Seoyeon." I said, giving him one last smile as I left.

~ The Next Day ~

Entering the classroom with my hand grasping onto the strap of my backpack, I casually headed over to my desk where I found Jungkook and Jimin happily conversing with one another.

Jimin was the first one to notice me, and his face instantly lit up at the sight of me.

"Hi Seoyeon." He cutely greeted, his adorable cheeks rising up more than it already was.

"Hey Jimin." I replied, responding with a warm smile.

"Great, King Kong's here." Jungkook teased me, only to receive a strong smack on his arm from me in return.

"Shut up coconut head." I snapped back, placing my bag down as I situated myself in my seat.

"Here we go again." I suddenly heard Yerim's voice say from behind, causing me to look back in haste since I've been dying to see her.

I let out a relieved sigh at the sight of her standing on both of her feet, although her injured ankle was bandaged.

I hurriedly stood up and rushed to her side, attacking her with a tight, vigorous hug.

"God, you have no idea how worried I was about you." I said, squeezing her even more in my embrace.

"S-Seoyeon... I-I can't... b-breathe..." Yerim muttered, causing me to immediately let go of her.

"Sorry, I'm just glad you're not in crutches." I said, happy at the fact that her injury wasn't as severe.

"Yeah, thanks to Jungkook, my ankle feels a lot better now." She sheepishly stated, the corners of her mouth curling up as her cheeks slightly tinted.

"All I did was treat your leg and carry you home. It's not a big deal." Jungkook said from his seat, letting out a laugh at Yerim's remark.

"Y-You carried her home...?" I reluctantly asked him, the bitter feeling of jealousy once again building up inside of me.

"Yeah, you have no idea how heavy she is Seoyeon. It felt like I was carrying a damn elephant on my back." He dramatically stated, causing Yerim to let out an offended gasp.

"E-ELEPHANT?!" She shouted in extreme rage, her face turning red from humiliation.

"Oh my bad, I meant a hippo. You kinda look like one too." Jungkook teased.

Her fists gradually clenching in fury and with flames igniting in her eyes, Yerim prepared herself to beat the hell out of him.

"Come here you little-"

She took a step forward as if she had completely forgotten about her injured ankle, causing her to let out a quick scream from the great pain and lose her balance.

"Yerim!" I worriedly shouted as I attempted to catch her, but Jungkook swiftly caught her in his arms before I could.

The fact that he was tightly embracing her caused Yerim's cheeks to instantly flare up, only to slightly break my heart.

"Be careful you idiot." Jungkook scolded, cautiously helping her stand back up on her feet.

"T-Thanks..." Yerim bashfully muttered, hurriedly separating away from him.

I just silently stood there while I watched the two of them interact, utter confusion overflowing my thoughts.

Since when were they so close?

Did something happen between them?

What the hell was I expecting?

Did I really think I was any different from his other friends?

I'm merely just another girl in the crowd, hopelessly chasing after his unachievable affection.

How stupid of me to think that I was the only flower in his garden.
