Chapter 20
Grace's POV
Once the argument was over and two doors had slammed shut, I took the opportunity to grab my bag and leave. I was still torn between my decisions, even after speaking to Castiel, but I decided it was safer for me to leave; Dean was never going to trust me and that was going to make any job a lot harder, not to mention the fact Sam and I had already nearly had our lives ended whilst working together for not even a day. It was tough but it had to be done for everyone's sake. I would keep an ear to the ground, listen for anything that would help them and contact Castiel. If he thought it was worth a shot, he'd let them know but otherwise I'd be left to handle it. Now how hard can it be to find a woman pregnant with the child of Lucifer?

It took a while but I finally found something strange. It wasn't exactly her walking past me in the street, but in the town near mine - Luling - there had been a weirdly high number of demon signs. Something seemed to be going down in that town and I wasn't going to waste any time finding out. I sent a quick text to Castiel, explaining what I knew and where I was going, and headed off, hope filling me for the first time in a while.
It was like I couldn't get the Winchester's and their mission out of my mind. No matter what hunt I was on or how much danger I was in, my mind always wandered back to being with them fighting demons and vampires. Nothing seemed as exciting as that. I missed them too, the fact coffee was brewing in the morning when I woke up, hearing their brotherly bickering, I even missed Dean's attitude... but most of all, I missed Sam and the connection we had. The loneliness I'd felt since then had been overwhelming, all my insecurities having to stay tight lipped because I had noone to share it with. It was depressing.
Now, as I drove to Luling, I finally smiled. I may have something that could help them. I could prove myself to them and get their approval.
Driving down Luling Main Street, everything seemed normal. No one seemed to be hanging around looking suspicious or glaring at me with black eyes, no lights were flickering and no storms were in progress. So far, everything seemed - dare I say it - normal. What I'd read had happened in this town over the last few days, however, was far from normal.
I headed towards the antique store, the last place that had been reported on, and strode in confidently. My fake FBI badge was shoved into a cowering officers face before I retracted it, shoving it into my pocket as I carried on further into the shop leaving him in my dust.
"May I help you?" The officer in charge turned to me with a questionable look on his face. I went to fetch my badge again but he looked me up and down and smiled. "Agent Byron?" The confused look on my face was enough for him to know he was right. "Your partner is just down there, he said to expect you." I still showed my badge as proof as i thanked him, my heart thumping hard and heavy in my chest as I wondered who I was partnered up with. Castiel wouldn't have known that, surely? But he is an angel, who knows what he can conjure up about people. I stepped slowly through another door into the staff only area where the owner sat cowering in the corner as he looked down at a staff member's body on the floor. He let out a hysterical sob as I walked in and he caught my eye.
"Oh God. How can this be happening? Yesterday we were all normal and today the FBI are questioning me about the death of my favourite staff member." The other suited body turned to me with a smile I instantly recognised.
"Thanks for coming so quickly. Pete this is Agent Byron." Dean said with a smile.
"Hi There Pete." I nodded my head to him as he continued to sob. Dean patted him on the shoulder and walked over to me, turning his back to Pete so he couldn't see or hear our conversation.
"Definite demon. There's sulphur on the back door leading out of the shop. They're running an inventory but something was definitely stolen." Dean got straight to business without so much as a greeting. I felt antsy as I waited for him to stop so I could quiz him on why he was here.
"Yeah, hi to you too." I let out a small breathy laugh. "What the hell are you doing here? Did Cass send you?" He tugged the collar of his shirt nervously. It seemed weird that Cass would rather send the person who despises me to help me work a job but I daren't argue. I just needed to see if I was following the right leads.
"Uh yeah." He said shortly. "If you're right about this, the demons are coming to this town for a reason and I'm reckoning it's because-" I cut him off.
"Kelly might be here." I said quickly, looking around to make sure no one was listening in. "Who else is Lucifer going to send to look for her?" Dean nodded in agreement.
"And if it isn't her, then something big is going down here." Dean added as we headed back to the front of the antiques store. He walked over to a dusty shelf and pointed towards an empty space on it, no dust within that space at all. Something had definitely been there for a long time and now it had been taken.
"What's with all the scepticism?" I spun round, my eyes narrowed at him. "IF I'm right? IF it isn't her? Do I seem incompetent to you?" The guy who had so little faith in me months ago seemed to have the same attitude despite all I did to help before. It filled me with anger. Why was I always needing to prove myself to these guys?
"Can we not do this now?" He snapped one a hushed voice. "We have bigger things to worry about." He threw a necklace at me. "Wear this, it'll stop you being possessed ag-." He stopped himself but I knew he was going to say again. Something tugged uneasily in my gut, telling me this wasn't what it seemed. Something seemed to be wrong with Dean and I needed to figure it out as soon as possible.
