Chapter 16

Grace's POV

I woke up groggily, opening my heavy eyes to see three pairs staring back at me. Suddenly feeling very exposed, I jumped and woke up quickly, sitting and pulling the blanket up under my chin.

"Sorry for the intrusion, we just wanted to check you were okay." Dean said, sounding nice to me. It was a weird thing to be on the receiving end of, baring in mind he had snapped at me pretty much every time we spoke. I racked my brain, desperate to remember what had happened that had made him switch. I let out a smile.

"Did I die or something? Why are you being nice to me?" I asked and all three men let out a small smile. Sam's smile faltered though, his eyes still looking over me with worry and hatred for himself.

"Not quite, but the demon who possessed you was a bad one." Castiel said matter-of-factly. "I've healed you up, mostly, but I'm not sure if the memories will come back or not. It may just be blank." I stared at him in disbelief. I was possessed? The last thing I remembered was distracting the demons with an exorcism and then it goes black. Next thing i remember is waking up a few seconds ago. So that was why Dean was being nice...

"Yeah, I don't remember anything yet. Not since the exorcism." I shrugged, partially trying to work out what had happened between then and now. I looked between the guys and let out a smile. Sam sighed heavily before he turned on his heels and left, sending a wave of sadness through my body. If any of them were going to sit with me and chat, to see how I was, I would have expected it to be Sam... not Dean, who quickly sat beside me and put a hand on my shoulder as I watched Sam leave.

"He just needs time." Dean said softly. "Look, be honest with your answer but I need a favour." He nodded at Cass who quickly shut the door, both of them nervous as they shut Sam out. I could sense that they were doing this behind his back and felt guilty but if Dean was going against Sam, it must have been something serious.

"What's wrong? Is it Sam?" I asked carefully. Both of the men looked at each other to answer the question.

"In a way, yes. It's to do with the possession." Cass explained, offering me a sad look as he continued. "He said something happened that we've never seen before and it's not that we don't believe him, but we need to see it for ourselves." I nodded along with what they were saying, trying to understand.

"The only way we can do that is if Cass tries to read you, you know, your memories and stuff." Dean carried on, Cass nodding in agreement. "There may not be anything there, it could be blank or you may have pushed it back, but if we see it it will surface again and you'll remember every horrid detail." I bit the inside of my cheek nervously as I thought about it. The way Sam had looked at me before he left proved to me that it must have been bad but if these guys needed to know about it to help themselves in the future then it was worth the risk.

"Okay, lets do it. However you do it..." I said confidently, receiving confused looks once again. "I'm not going to sit and think about it for hours. You guys need the information and I may have it. That's all I need." Dean looked back at the door.

"And if Sam asks-" he began but I waved my hand to silence him.

"I got the memories back on my own and it had nothing to do with you guys." I smiled, this time placing my hand on Dean's shoulder. "I know you're doing this without him knowing. I'm not going to screw it up." Dean gave a thankful smile as Cass stepped forwards, quickly touching his hands to my head. Suddenly, we were in my head. All my memories of the vamps nest flying across my vision, followed by arriving at the bunker, the demon fights and then the possession.

"This isn't you, remember. This was all in the hands of the demon." Cass reiterated as the memories started, sensing my uncomfortableness with what I was seeing despite it not being under my control. The memories slowed to the demon saying they were going to use me to kill my friends because it was poetic.

"You're there?" I could hear Dean say, but my vision was inside my memories still. I watched as demon me flung Dean and Cass, strangled Sam and then got doused in holy water. I watched as I was put in the dungeon, Sam telling me he could handle it. He tortured the demon for a while. The demons voice was overtaking mine, loving every second of upsetting Sam. I could hear demon me talking about Jess and Sam's mum, how they burned on ceilings and died screaming - how it would be great to see that happen to me. Sam looked distraught, infuriated and lost. It was no surprise that he snapped. I wasn't expecting to see what I did though, watching him plunge a knife into my stomach. The demon seemed to fade, I was back, crying as I spoke to Sam who then looked flabbergasted. The demon was back quickly though, saying that lucifer had been given instructions and began to scream for help before they left me. The memories following that were faded, as I went in an out of consciousness, and Cass took that as the best time to stop the memories and remove his hands from my head. As I tried to come to terms with what I had missed, the vision of Sam stabbing me kept replaying in my head. Cass left me to myself as he placed his hands on Dean's head, allowing him to see it too. No wonder Sam was quick to leave me alone, he probably hated himself for losing it and hurting me.

"Son of a bitch." Dean said as Cass removed his hands from his head. "Sam was right. They've learnt something new..."

"This could make torturing demons for information a lot more difficult. Not to mention that demon survived, they're probably teaching others about it as we speak." Cass added, getting frustrated. Noting how quiet I was still, Dean put an arm around me.

"You've really helped us with this. I can't thank you enough. I know it's going to be tough, it'll take some time but you'll get over this soon." He smiled as he stood up, both men leaving me alone with my thoughts and those memories replaying over and over.
