69 || A Day w/ Hunter (part 1)

Unedited bc long af;

let's pretend you guys r both 18. okay? thanks & '69' haha...

"You want to go kayaking and ride horses?" I asked Hunter.

"Yes!" Hunter said, jumping up and down like a two year old. "Can we? Like near the Grand Canyon?"

"Sure," I said. Hunter pulled my arm and I almost dropped my phone. I quickly picked it up and Hunter dragged me out of the house and into his car. "You're crazy!"

"I'm just fun," he said. I rolled my eyes and laughed at him.

After a couple of minutes, we parked and Hunter opened the door for me. He dragged me to the entrance and we got all set and ready.

"I've never done this before. But like, chill," I said laughing at Hunter who was snapchatting everything.

"It'll be amazing! Just imagine how much fun we are going to have and after, you'll realize how lit it was!" Hunter said, as he helped me jump on my horse.

I placed my left foot in the left stirrup and I pulled out my body upward. I swung my other leg around the horse's body, sort of hugging the horse with my leg, and I put my right foot into the right stirrup.

When I was on the saddle, I toke a moment to make sure I was in the proper position for balance. I kept my back straight and kept in mind that when you ride a horse you should be able to draw a straight line through your ear, shoulder, hip, and heel.

I kept my shoulders even and straight as well, with the bulk of my weight resting on my seat bones in my buttocks. (That word tho😂).

Once I felt securely balanced, I got my legs into the proper position. I was kinda difficult, since I was a beginner, so I toke time to make sure my legs were positioned properly. My legs were turned outward, because it felt more natural. I stuck my knees out and then the instructor told me to turn my legs outward, so I did.

I sort of was hugging the horse with my legs. I didn't want to squeeze the horse too tightly, but I had my legs curved inwards towards the horse.

"When you're riding a horse, your toes should be pointed upward. Keep your ankles stable and your heels pointing downward," the instructor informed us.

"When can we start?!" Hunter whined and I laughed at him.

"Sorry," I said and apologized for Hunter. "He's just excited."

Once my legs were in the right position, I made sure to hold the reins properly. Since we were riding with english style, we had to make a fist and then pass the reins through the fist so the loop of the reins faces upward. Then, we had to remove both our pinky fingers from the fist and place them on the outside of the reins. I placed my thumbs on top of the reins, securing them in place.

I gently squeezed my horse's side with my legs. The horse started walking and I rode next to Hunter. The horse moved his head back and forth and I allowed my hands to bob back and forth with the horse's head.

I signaled the horse to turn right, by very lightly pulling back with my right hand. Then to turn left, I very lightly pulled back with my left hand.

"This is so fun! Can we go faster for my snapchat?" Hunter asked the instructor, who was riding behind us.

"Sure. Just be careful," he warned us.

I gently pressed my legs into the horses sides to cue the horse to trot. I sat deep in the saddle and keep contact with my legs.

I moved my outside leg back and squeeze to canter the horse. My seat rolled with the canter and I held onto the neck strap, to help with my balance so I didn't fall.

I gently squeezed my outside rein to slow my horse to a half hault in a trot before using my inside leg by the girth. I added my outside leg behind the girth to give my horse a bit of a push forward.

I made sure to use my full body to steer as well. I used my legs and seat bones in addition to my hands.

Everything was going great, until Hunter got too excited and wanted to go even faster. He fell off his horse. I laughed at him and stopped my horse.

"You good?" I said, through laughs.

"Yeah!" He said and got back on his horse. "You're a meanie!"

"Why?" I asked him.

"You laughed at me!" He said pouting and crossing his arms. "Come catch me!" He said and started trotting away. I tried catching up to him, but he beat me. "Ha! I win!"

"Whatever," I said jokingly, and rolled my eyes. "Can we feed the horses?" I asked the instructor.

"Sure!" He said. We walked towards the stables and Hunter was clearly excited. "Don't walk behind the horse, don't run anywhere, always feed treats on your flat palm with fingers outstretched, and so on. Alright?" The instructor asked. We shook our heads as a 'yes.'

The instructor brought us some hay and we fed our horses. Hunter started throwing hay at me, and I glared at him. He kept throwing hay at me. I threw some at him and then the instructor told us we had to leave.

Hunter grabbed my arm and pulled me away, and we ran away from the man.

"Why did we run away? We could've apologized!" I said as we stopped. I tried catching my breath.

"But that wouldn't have been as fun as running away! Can we go kayaking now? Please!" Hunter said.

"Sure," I said shrugging my shoulders.

"Yay! Now you're having fun," Hunter said. He gave me a quick peck on the lips and we walked toward the kayaking place.

"I'm always fun!" I defended myself. "Can we get food after this?" I asked.

"Yeah, we can go to the Cheesecake Factory after this, but for now...kayaking!" He said and we went to get ready.
