Chapter 9

Victoria's POV

When we climbed out of the car a man with salt and pepper hair was waiting at the steps of the house for us. He looked shocked when I climbed out and it confirmed that everyone thought I was dead.

"Welcome to my home, I'm Ryan Edwards," the man introduced himself once Toby and I stood infront of him.

"Nice to meet you to, I guess there is no need to introduce myself," I said as I shook his hand.

"Not at all. Lets step inside for some coffee and the you can tell how this is even possible," Ryan said with a smile as he led us inside. We stepped into a huge hallway. There was a staircase on the left side of the room that led upstairs. And there were three archways leading to different part of the house. This house could give Jaydan's house a go.

"You have a lovely home," I told Ryan as he led us through one of the archways to a beautiful modern kitchen.

"Thank you. I inherited it from my father. He was a big businessman, but unfortunately I didn't follow in his shoes. Please take a seat," he said and Toby and I took a seat at small table in the middle of the kitchen.

"How do you like your coffee?" Ryan asked as he put on the kettle.

"Sugar and cream," I replied. My eyes scanned over the kitchen admiring the granite counters and dark cupboards. I would definitely mention this to Jaydan and ask him if we can make a few changes to the house he bought for us. That was if we ever made it back there.

Ryan placed our coffee infront of us before he took a seat as well. I took a sip and was quite surprised at the taste. It was most definitely the best coffee I ever had.

"So Victoria, do you mind telling me how you are alive and how the rest of the world believes you to be dead?" He asked before he took a long sip of his coffee.

"A few weeks ago I came here to find Jaydan, I found him, but he was working for the DF and was currently busy with an assignment. So we agreed that he would finish his assignment before handing in his resignation. But when he finally did finish his assignment, James, his boss, won't allow him to quit. He gave him two options. Either Jaydan got rid of me and safely send me back home or they will get rid of me permanently. Jaydan and I didn't want to take any chances so I bought a plane ticket back home.

But a few hours before my flight Jaydan started to get doubts and he told me that he had a plan to get me off the plane. I got on the plane and in the plane's bathroom I quickly changed my appearance to that of a flight attendant with blonde hair. I booked into another hotel under a pseudo name. And that is where Toby found us. Jay and I didn't plan on me being presumed dead. We just wanted his boss off our backs." I explained.

"I'm quite in awe with what you did. And the ultimatum that James gave Jaydan doesn't surprise me in the least. A few years ago, I wouldn't have believed that James would be capable of such things, but over the years I've come to the realisation that he would do anything in his abilities to get what he wants. And that makes him dangerous. We need to put him away for good," Ryan said with a sigh. Something told me that it hurt Ryan a lot knowing how bad this man was and that made me think that they might've been good friends at one stage. Ryan and I had something in common, we both had dear friends that did horrible things.

"How do Jaydan and I fit into this? How can we possible help you?" I asked.

"I know you're curious, but I would rather discuss everything once Jaydan gets here. I want you both here before we start to form any plans," Ryan said and I nodded.

"But in the mean time, make yourself at home. And if you need anything don't hesitate to ask," he said with a smile and I felt reassured. I had a feeling that we all will get along just fine.

"Thank you," I said politely.

"You're very welcome, now let me show you to your room," Ryan said and I followed him out of the kitchen. Toby remained seated.

He led me up the flight of stairs and I marvelled at the art hanging on the walls and the craftmanship of the stairs. This was truly a very magnificent house and I thought that this house should become a tourist destination.

"You're really enjoying the view," Ryan mused with a light chuckle.

"The art is exquisite. I've visited one or two museums on my way here and I can't help but think that this house deserves to be a tourist attraction just like they are," I told him.

"I thought about that to, but I don't like the idea of strangers in my home, especially in my line of work. But on a different subject, I would like to know how you found Jaydan. He is one of the best agents and he's never been sloppy at covering his tracks," Ryan said.

I didn't know if I should tell Ryan about the symbols and coordinates that led me here, but then I decided that it was better to tell the truth. Afterall this man might be able to help us regain our lives. So I told him. He was quite shocked, he didn't know about the symbols either and he promised to look into them.

On the second floor was a long hallway that led to maybe twenty different doors. Ryan led me past an array of door until we finally stopped infront of a wooden door near the end of the hallway.

"This is your room, I hope it is to your liking," he told me before he opened the door. I had to bit back a gasp as I took in the appearance of the room. It had a canopy bed with soft colouring bedding and the colour scheme of the room was different purples and pinks. It screamed princess room and was more beautiful than any hotelroom I've ever slept in.

"It's perfect," I told him.

"Good. I'll let you settle in. Dinner is at 7pm," he said and I nodded before he left me alone.

I explored the room a bit more and was surprised to find my suitcase already in the room. There was a balcony that had a view of the perfectly manicured back garden and I could get used to a view like this.
