Chapter 22
(Dean's P.O.V.)
I watched as Jen lay on the hospital bed. Sam was holding her hand and slowly rubbing circles on the back, his head hung low and a grimace was plastered on his tiered looking face. Lionel had been there earlier and had stayed until he was called away on business. When Chris had found out about her sister she had rushed into the hospital. Jen was being rushed down the halls and Chris had tackled the cart.
I winced as I recalled the tear stricken face she had given me when the doctors announced that she might not make it. Four days later and she was still out cold. Groaning I sat down.
"Hey, are you alright?" I looked up to see Chris standing above me with a piece of pie in her hand.
"I should be asking you that." I laughed dryly. Chris took the seat next to me and gave a sad laugh.
"I know right, my own sister hospitalized and me with no way of knowing if she is going to make it through the next night." Chris looked up at me and smiled. "You and Sam don't have to stay, in fact, if you want to get to your next case then you should probably pack up and head out." I raised an eyebrow at her.
"With Sammy like that, I think not." Chris gazed over at my brother sitting next to her sister.
"I wonder why he's like that?" Chris shook her head. "He knows that she's engaged and yet he is still sitting there waiting for her to open her eyes." Chris's fists clenched shut, her knuckles turning white. Tears formed at her eyes but she refused to let them fall. "Lionel is her fiance and yet he stays only long enough to know that the best they can do is keep an eye on her. What kind of man is he!?" Chris furiously banged her fist on the bench and growled. Standing up she kicked a trash can, the can flew down the hall and clattered to a halt when it hit a corner. I whistled my approval and she sank back down in her seat. This woman was amazing. Her sister was in a coma like state and she was still finding ways to keep active. She refused to shut down and she wont quit. I grinned, what a woman.
Footsteps echoed down the hallway towards us. At first I assumed that the security was coming to yell at Chris for her outburst, but instead a doctor ushered Sam out of the room and shut the blinds. I stood up and grabbed Chris's arm. Sam and Chris were also on edge and I was worried that she would snap. Our fear flew higher when a nurse rushed into the room. I grunted as Chris elbowed me in the stomach and shoved Sam out of the way. Sam and I rushed after her and made it to the door just as the nurse was pushed into us. She let out a scream and the doctor turned. He ducked as Chris launched at him and she fell into the crash cart. He took the syringe and was beginning to stick it into Jen's arm when her eyes shot open. Like lighting her fingers wrapped around the syringe and threw it at a board which was on the wall across the room.
Chris smiled as Jen's hand went to her hip where her gun was normally placed. The doctor watched her carefully and I made sure that Sam and I were onto her so if she bolted we could grab her. Instead she settled down like a cat who realized she wasn't in danger. She sat on the bed in an elegant form and smiled.
(Jen's P.O.V.)
I knew that being hostile would get me now where so I sat down in a lady-like pose.
"Would you please set down that awful syringe, please." I said to the doctor. "Also, I would like for you to release me from the hospital." I stared at Chris and the boys and smiled. "It's very nice to see you again, I hope that you have not been troubled by my accident." Everyone nodded and I could tell Chris was trying to keep a straight face. Within minutes I was released from the hospital and we were on our way to the parking lot.
"Very nice performance Jen, looks like you haven't lost your touch." Chris remarked lightly punching my shoulder. I grinned and punched her back on the shoulder. Chris's eyes were a little puffy and I was quick to take notice. Though not wanting to make her uncomfortable I simply said.
"Well of course, what kind of hunter would I be if I couldn't fool a doctor. On the other hand, I really do feel fine." Chris gave me a scrutinizing glare.
"You are going to stay with me for a while, we can rent a room, watch movies, hunt a demon or two, then we can deal with real life. Deal?" I laughed at her seriousness and my heart warmed.
"Deal." Off to the side I could see Sam watching me, Dean constantly nudging him in the arm. "Hi Sam," I said walking up to him. Dean smirked before taking off.
"Hey Jen, you feeling alright?" I nodded and I flood of blush rushed to my cheeks.
"Maybe just a little feverish." Sam's eyes flashed for a moment before he grabbed my wrist and hurriedly rushed me around the corner. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as he pulled me close. His chest was solid and firm, and I felt myself relax in his grip. But as I looked up I could tell his eyes weren't on me. I quickly followed his gaze and saw a man with long blonde hair practically running down the hall.
"Where is she!?" He demanded looking from Dean to Chris.
"I don't know what you're talking about?" Chris answered back, her eyes drilling into his. I shuddered and Sam pulled me close. "In fact we just got here, maybe you could tell us just what is going on." The man ran his hand through his hair and sighed. He was actually quite attractive. His skin was tan for someone facing winter conditions and his long blonde hair was rather cute. Men with long hair were definitely my type. With that thought my eyes wandered back to Sam. His hair had gotten longer since we had first met and he looked very handsome.
"My fiance, that is who I am talking about. Your sister!" I flinched. His words shook me and I felt as though a werewolf had batted me halfway to France.
"Look, the girl says she doesn't know, why don't you just let it go?" We all turned to face the new voice that had entered the room and to say I was shocked would be an understatement.
"You." Chris growled dangerously.
"Hey babe," Standing only five feet away was Duke Felix Armington.
