Chapter 11

(Dean's P.O.V.)

Chris slowly walked back to where we were and I noticed that Jen wasn't with her.

"Where the hell is your sister?" I questioned in a lower tone. She gave me an innocent stare and leaned on a counter.

"Why, I'm not sure." She replied in a hushed answer. Becky and Sam were talking about the night that Zach's girlfriend was murdered and Chris seemed to be listening pretty intently. Sam and I heard the door squeak open and a shape blur past and into the apartment. Grabbing a hammer from the table I ran into the living room to find Jen panting hard and clutching a book and small gun in her hands.

"Damn." She muttered.

"Jen! What happened?" Chris was by her sister in an instant. Jen's arm was bleeding and she groaned as Chris lightly fingered it.

"I..." Jen licked her lips. "I was out by the car grabbing the book, when I.... saw a person standing in the lot across from us. I thought it was strange and even went over to investigate. All of a sudden I was attacked. I managed to shoot whatever it was in the arm, but not before it landed a scratch to my arm." She let out a hiss of pain as Chris dabbed some alcohol on her arm. The rag that she was using was getting really bloody.

"Do you think that it may be the same person who killed Zach's girlfriend?" Becky asked speaking for the first time in a while. Jen bit her lip and I turned to face Becky.

"Yes, and there is a big chance that whoever that was may also be after you." Becky covered her face and Sam looked up.

"I think that we should start looking around and keep and eye out for anything suspicious, till then why don't we go and get some sleep. Tomorrow we can go ask Zach a few questions." I nodded.

"Great Sammy, you actually have a good idea." Jen laughed and Chris handed her a bottle. Wait, where did that bottle come from. Jen twisted off the cap and held it up to her lips. I saw her grimace and I walked over. "What's in the bottle?"

"Old Dublin, a wonderful Irish whiskey." Jen replied holding the bottle up to me. I sniffed it and then took a sip. It trailed a path of fire down my throat and I heard the two of them chuckle.

"Why the hell do you drink this stuff."

"It numbs the pain for what's coming next." Jen replied. I saw Chris pull out a small metal case. Opening it she pulled out a small syringe. Inside was a clear liquid. Jen held her arm out and Chris inserted the needle.

"What's in the needle?"

"A type of disinfectant, in a way. You see, whenever we get hurt by a kind of creature that we don't know about, or a poisonous kind of monster we stick this needle in and counteract any and all kinds of things that may affect us." I whistled. I had to admit, I was impressed.

"Hey Dean, lets go. We have to find a place to stay for the night." I nodded.

"We'll see you girls tomorrow." I waved good-bye to them and saw them stand up. Walking outside Sam and I got into my car and I turned to him.

"Do you think that something attacked Jen?" Sam's brow furrowed and he leaned back.

"Hopefully we'll find out tomorrow."

(Jenny's P.O.V.)

The next morning I rolled over and stretched. It was still dark outside and I checked the clock. Six forty-nine. I sighed and grabbed the keys off the nightstand next to me. Pulling my shoes on I walked outside and made for the car. For about ten minutes I just cruised around. I found the small store from the day before and popped inside. I grabbed a dozen doughnuts and three coffees along with one hot chocolate. After paying for them I checked my phone. Nothing. Getting in the car I sat the things down and drove back to the motel room.

When I walked in I saw that Chris was awake and getting dressed.

"Guess who's back and brought food?"

"Oh, what did you get?"

"Doughnuts, and for you hot chocolate." She grinned and I handed her the drink. "I also brought coffee and doughnuts for those idiot brothers, so don't eat them all." I ordered. After we ate our fill we met up with the Winchester brothers. Sam and Dean thanked us for the doughnuts and coffee. Apparently we were going to check out a security video that was taken outside of Zach's girlfriend, Emily, apartment. As we all watched the video I noticed something at the same time that Sam did.

"Check this out." Sam said pointing at the screen.

"Well, maybe it's just a camera glare." I gave him a "really" look and he shrugged back at me.

"That's not like any camera flare I've ever seen. You know, a lot of cultures believe that a photograph can catch a glimpse of the soul." Dean nodded.

"Right."

"Remember that dog that was freakin' out? Maybe he saw this thing. Maybe this is some kind of dark double of Zack's, something that looks like him but isn't him."

"Like a doppelganger?" Chris asked interjecting.

"Yeah. It'd sure explain how he was two places at once." I remarked catching onto the idea. Sam nodded. "Hey, do you think that we would be able to go to Emily's house? "

.   .   .

"These people are detectives and are on this case, so if you have any problems.." Becky trailed off and the man seemed to get the message. Stepping aside we were let into Emily's apartment and we all started to look around. There was some blood covering the walls and I got a sick feeling. In the end the only thing that we found out was that the house had been robbed a week before and after the attack the next door neighbors dog went crazy. None of this was making sense. After we left Sam and Dean said that they were going to re-examine the tape. I nodded and Chris and I headed back to out motel room.

.   .   .

(Chris's P.O.V.)

"Bloody blooming hell!" I rolled of my bed and opened my eyes to see Jen holding her phone. Her face was contorted in rage.

"What's going on?" I asked rubbing the sleep form my eyes. Jen's hair was yanked back in a messy bun with a strand of auburn hair falling near her eyes. Her green eyes were trained on her tracking journal.

"That was gran's doctor. He was calling to say that she has breathed her last breath. The cancer finally won." I gasped. Tears threatened to spill over her eyes and I walked over. Wrapping my arms around her I held her close. A knock at the door startled us. Jen swiped at her eyes and while walking over to the door she dapped some foundation on. When she opened the door it was like she never cried. "Dean, this is a surprise, Sam." She let the in and then walked over to the counter where I saw a steaming mug.

"While we were out there-"

"No time, we should go investigate Zach's house again, There has to be something." Jen finished quickly. Sam looked impressed, but Dean appeared angry that Jen had interrupted him.

"She has a point Dean, we should go back and check out Zach's house, one more time." I nodded and grabbed my jacket. Running a hand through my hair I put it into a ponytail and hopped in that car. When we got to the house Dean and I took the bedroom and bathroom while Sam and Jen took the living room and kitchen. Besides the place being a mess with blood here and there nothing seemed to give anything away. I peered over to see what Dean was doing. When I saw him I suppressed a chuckle. He was splayed out on the bed and grinned.

"Did you know that this is actually a very comfy bed?" He wiggled his eyebrows and I rolled my eyes.

"Dean, Chris come here!" I heard Sam shout. We followed his voice to the back of the apartment and saw that they had gone through the back door. Jen had on gloves and ran her hand across the wall. When she removed her hand I saw her grimace. Before we became hunters Jen used to go to a medical and technical school. Creating new things was like a hobby. One of her finer inventions was a spray. What you do is spray it on something and then run an ordinary latex glove over it. If the glove turns black then you have come across blood, rather than if it's blue, which points out that it is some other kind of substance.

"It's definitely blood." All of a sudden an ambulance passed by, it's siren blaring like a dead weight in my mind. Dean's eyes met Sam and my eyes met Jen.
