Swear, This One You'll Save
Stealth was the last thing on the brother's minds as they charged through the underbrush and towards the faint cry; the pain and fear which drenched it pushing the brothers to go faster. Overhead branches smacked at them and tree roots threatened to knock them over, but they didn't give their surroundings any notice, their full attention on each other and tracking the fading howl.
This was how Leo and Raph instantly knew when Mikey was no longer with them, the shriek and sudden silence that followed the lack of footfalls causing them to stop in their tracks.
His name was screamed and then they were sprinting back for him, breaking into a small clearing in time to see a hulking beast holding their unconscious baby brother to the ground, flaring red eyes turning to them. A rush of wind ruffled its pitch-black fur and then it was taking off in the opposite direction of the gaping brothers, disappearing back into the shadows of the forest.
Raph spurred back to life and charged after it, ignoring Leo's cries for him to wait, the leader scrambling to their little brother's side. By the time the leader checked his pulse and breathing and reasoned that he was simply unconscious, he'd glanced back up to find that they were alone and Raphael was no longer in sight, apparently having ignored Leo in favor of going after the assaulting beast.
"Mikey." Leo shook his shoulder in the hopes of waking his youngest brother; his voice a mixture of urgency and fear. "Come on, Mikey. Get up."
The freckled turtle groaned as he was pulled back into reality, dizzily glancing up at the sky and then over at Leo. Offering a weak smile, the leader tucked an arm behind his shell and adjusted him back upright, his younger brother rubbing the back of his head. "Sewer apples, that smarted. What happened? Why are we-"
Wincing and glancing around them, Mikey paused and Leo's heart sank as he wondered just how hard his youngest brother had hit his head, flinching and jumping back when the youngest began shouting incoherent babble.
He blinked in surprise as his younger brother scrambled to his feet. "Monster! Giant werewolf monster! It came out of nowhere and tried to eat me!"
Letting out a soft sigh when he realized they weren't currently under attack, Leo got to his feet and placed a hand on his shoulder. "I know. I think we scared it off."
Scanning the forest around them, he added. "Come on, Raph went after it. Maybe if we catch up, we can follow it to Donnie."
Though the fear on his expression told the leader just how much he hated that plan; Mikey nodded in agreement and then both brothers took off back into the shadowy forest in search of their missing brothers and the beast that threatened all their lives.
