Got A Secret
Leo awoke with a start and was immediately attacked by cold, the half-awake leader shivering as he scanned the room, spotting a blanket lying on the floor next to him. Reaching over to grasp the cover, he found he couldn't reach without having to get off the couch, a soft groan escaping as he resigned to his freezing fate.
Tired sapphire gaze flickered over the form of his youngest brother curled up and muttering on the armchair in front of him and movement on the soft surface under his head caused the leader to jerk upright, startled to realize his head had been resting on a pillow in Raph's lap and not on an armrest like he'd assumed.
The hothead stirred but remained oblivious to the real world, the leader staring at his younger brother in amusement as he wondered how he'd ended up in that position. His gaze strayed towards the armchair he couldn't see while lying down and only spotted a crumpled blanket.
Wondering why Raph couldn't just take that spot but not caring too much as a groggy sleep crept up on him, he got off the couch long enough to retrieve his own blanket, wincing when his left leg bore his weight for even that second.
He laid back down and Raph shifted slightly, his arm unconsciously moving to rest on the leader's shell as though to make sure he was still there. Letting out a soft sigh and beginning to doze off again, the leader was barely aware when his mind began wandering of its own accord, putting together pieces that he didn't know needed to be put together.
Going through katas in the sunny yard as Raph chased Mikey beside him-
-the spiking pain through his knee when he and Raph collided-
-he had powers! His brothers were going to be so jealous when he-
-who would have thought his first supervillain would be a beaver?-
-he landed next to Donnie and tried to figure out why he was in the city and why his brothers were in his dream-
-the beavers wanted to do WHAT-
-he ducked a blow- collided with a wall- slammed into a conveyor belt-
-they really were going to eat them and there was nothing he could-
-he felt like death, but at least he was awake. Ah, shell, his knee hurt again-
-he didn't even want to think about sleeping, but Raph wouldn't let him get a word in edgewise. He was a bit annoyed, but it was nice to see his older brother stepping up for once, especially when he practically knocked Donnie out to make sure he didn't sneak off while they were-
The leader found himself wide awake and leaping upright, a rush of recognition and fear slamming into him like a slap in the face. He turned back to the empty armchair where he now realized his younger brother was supposed to be sleeping and instead of the normal irritation creeping in, he felt a surge of anxiety at the knowledge he wasn't around.
He knew what woke him up now.
Donnie was in trouble.
He didn't know where or how; he just knew that he was.
"Leo?" The leader glanced over at Raph as the hothead sat up beside him, rubbing his eyes in the exhausted motion of a turtle who really didn't want to be woken up. "Wha''s wro'g?"
"Donnie." Leo replied as he pulled himself to his feet, taking a shaky breath when feet hit the cold floor and then partly limped over to the window, pulling back the curtains and peering out, half expecting to see some kind of monster sitting on the front lawn.
The lawn was notably void of beasts and the only movements were from a passing breeze, the moonlight from above giving everything an eerie atmosphere.
He knew Raph got off the couch and moved to his side without having to turn around, the hothead grumbling. "That idiot... Think he's outside?"
Leo glanced back to offer an anxious shrug and the hothead stared at him for a moment before shaking his head and mumbling more insults at their brother. Easily making his way through the dark room and over to the door, he grumbled, "Be right back."
Raph abruptly slammed the door behind him as he left and a startled yelp followed by a thump announced that Mikey was now awake and presumably on the floor. Leo turned his attention from the oak door and to the window as the hothead stomped his way towards the barn, a horrible feeling welling up in his gut.
"What's goin' on?" Leo spared his sleepy youngest brother a glance before turning to stare back out the window. "Raph's going to get Donnie from the-"
Sapphire eyes widened and he was bolting towards the door without a second thought, the pain from his knee the last thing on his mind as he burst into the chilly night air and out on the lawn, heading for the barn.
He froze at the barn doors as he spotted what had made Raph shout the name of the brother he'd gone to retrieve; his gaze volley balling around the trashed room. The flipped car, the smashed glass, the claw marks scraped across walls and Donnie's incomplete inventions; it looked like a tornado spurred through.
"Donnie! Donnie!" His younger brother shoved past him to get back out of the barn that was empty of the genius, emerald gaze now wide-awake and frantic. "Donnie! Donnie!"
A trembling hand grasped his arm and Leo glanced at Mikey to see that the jokester was pointing into the forest with wide eyes. He gently pushed his brother's hand off and moved towards where he was pointing, spotting the unnaturally large prints that seemed sloppy, like something was struggling to move backward. An oval line was splayed in between them, the leader recognizing the signs of a turtle shell dragged along the dirt.
Two fingers pressed against the ground over a splatter of blood and he count tell by the loss of moonlight behind him that his younger brothers were at his side. He glanced up and between them, meeting both eyes wide in horror.
His youngest brother was the first to speak, his voice small. "Leo? Where... Where's Donnie?"
