Exams went by in a huff for both Nandini and Mukti though Manik was glad that their University had closed down for the spring break just before the start of another semester.
Results came out in three weeks, and Nandini had jumped up in happiness hugging her husband when she had aced the class with distinction and kissed his cheek even.
Though later, she was quite embarrassed about it much to the laughter of Mukti, Manik and Pallavi.
Mukti had got through with flying colors and the happy atmosphere of the family which had continued the whole day for Manik left no stone unturned in celebrating the success of his girls.
Just a happy spring day before University opened up for the second and final semester, Manik took his wife to the beach.
The happiness on her face seeing the sapphire blue sea, sparkling soft sand and the horizon which spread out like a painting of nature's gorgeous shades of blues, yellow and white was Serene.
Manik in his whole life of 33 years, had not seen a woman be this happy just by a simple visit to the beach.
Perhaps what Mukti had once mentioned about Nandini that she finds the biggest of joys in the smallest of things in life. She wasn't the type of woman who was hard to please, nor did you need diamonds and solitaires to make her happy.
And this, he was understanding now after spending so many months with her.
Manik watched her playing in the shallow waters, his hands into the pockets of his jeans which he had folded up. Nandini's adorable laughter rang in his ears making him smile.
True, her innocence wasn't made for this world.
Taking off his swaggy black Raybans, he focused his DSLR camera on her and took some candid shots of his wife.
(If someone has better suggestion of pics that can be used here, do send them!)
Manik smiled at the outcomes, these would be perfect to gift her on some special occasion. Next, he took some random shots of the beach which was evenly populated being a beautiful day.
One of them was a beautiful shot of an old couple walking along the shore hand in hand, while another was a little boy playing the shallow waves with his little sister, holding her hand tightly all the while.
The shots were thoroughly satisfying and would be used for the sunday weekly newsletter of New York Times.
He felt a splash of water on his face and turned to find Nandini giggling as she signaled him to come over.
Manik wasn't that fond of getting drenched so he just shook his head cutely only to get a splash of water again.
"This is On, woman!" He declared before getting into the waves. Their laughs echoed together as both ran around in the water and the sand, occasionally drenching each other in a water war.
Nandini squealed happily as Manik twirled her around.
Satisfied and Happy, both came to sat down as Manik adorably shook off the sand from his ears making Nandini laugh at his cuteness.
The tinkle of a bell made her hazel doe eyes light up with joy as Manik watched her.
Both knew what it was, The Ice cream Truck!
"I know it's stupid to ask, but ice cream khaogi?" Manik asked her, cutely to which Nandini nodded happily like a little girl making him chuckle.
Obliging, he got up and walked towards the street to get his wife and himself some ice cream.
Nandini took in a long whiff of the sweet saline smell of the sand and sea. She watched with a smile as some adorable little kids made a sand castle with their small hands while some danced around happily with colorful balloons. How much she loved visiting the beach!
Her hazel doe eyes then spotted a young couple wrapped around each other kissing passionately, in the shallow waters.
She couldn't tell if they were married or not, but they seemed so much in love.
Nandini surely hadn't given much thought about love all her teenage years but after getting married with Manik, she was experiencing everything she hadn't ever in her life.
Family, Happiness.
Togetherness, The Small Joys Of Life that she was experiencing with him were something that she would cherish lifelong.
But Love? Nandini blushed a bit as she looked at the couple. Will she and Manik ever kiss that passionately as the whole world sinks into oblivion?
Well, they certainly had so many instances. Her heart increased its pace with the mere thought.
Their first instance at Aryaman Sharon's wedding or that night when she was changing.
The mere thought made her skin warm. How would his lips really feel like? Manik sure eyes her lips whenever they're close and one cannot miss those hints of red on her cheeks.
How would it be? She in her husband's strong arms which would loop around her waist and he would lean in to kiss her against the roaring ocean or even the horizon. How would it be feeling his lips on her nape? On her body, touching her like a man touches his woman. His wife.
But this was what her heart wanted.
It's Just Your Heart. Her brain chided as she came to terms with her brain.
To be honest, they haven't even kissed let alone consummating their marriage.
Little tears filled up her eyes as her heart came to face the harsh truth her brain inflicted.
Why was it? Why was the man holding back? Was it because he was forced into this relationship and she is perhaps nothing that he wanted in a wife?
But hasn't he told her many a times that she's precious to him? If he didn't consider her as a part of his life, then why did he celebrate her happinesses as if they were his own?
She looked down to the solitaire in her finger caressing it softly.
Nandini didn't realize when Manik had came to sit beside her.
"Your chocochip brownie!" He forwarded her, her cone fondly. But much to his surprise, Nandini didn't turn around happily something which she always did whenever ice cream was around. Rather she seemed lost and he followed her line of vision to that young couple kissing.
A sudden knot formed in his stomach as the reality came down on him. His fears were true and confirmed.
He has shushed those gossips that kept pricking on his conscience a long time back, when they had melted in each other's embrace months ago but maybe he had judged her wrong.
Nandini was young, innocent and mostly what all she was feeling or doing for him was monitored by the fact that she was married to him, she had his ring on her finger and that was the reason perhaps as to why she wasn't able to speak her heart out or confess what she wanted.Maybe she couldn't ever picture herself with him, Maybe he had been wrong in thinking that she was happy with him but clearly she wasn't.
She was young, she wanted a man who would love her or cherish her or make her believe in those young mushy romances and he wasn't able to give that to her.
They had a difference of 13 YEARS.
Nandini was a bit startled when she turned to find him beside her. Quickly she wiped away those tears and smiled at him.
"Kuch hua hai?" He asked her quietly, as she took the ice cream from him to which she just shook her head.
"Aapko pataa hai, I was having cravings for this chocolate brownie flavor and you knew exactly what I wanted. Thank you."
She confessed cutely, kissing his cheek trying to be happy and bright but Manik wasn't the one to be easily fooled.
Finishing their ice creams, both got up to leave for home but Manik didn't miss how Nandini turned around to look at the couple who still were sedated in each other's love.
By the time, they reached home Manik had made up his mind. He would call his lawyer tomorrow.
