Coffee Sparks Moment
Anyone familiar with this movie "Ruby Sparks"??
I saw it about a year ago. While the movie wasn't the best thing I've ever seen...it was a unique premise, so I enjoyed it.
It's about this dorky forever-alone-type writer who magically writes up a girlfriend, one fine morning. Basically his character/dream-girlfriend comes to life. She is EXACTLY as he imagined her to be.
So, whatever he wants her to be like, whatever he wants her to do, he just writes it up in his book, and it starts to come true. He creates her as he would, a character. And then he starts to change her, "edit" her, to suit him...
My favorite scene was when he was trying to make his brother believe in his powers, and he edits his girlfriend to make her fluent in french!
She starts speaking total french in her next breath, and both of them just kept laughing while she is just like;
"Qu'est-ce qui est si drôle? QUOI??"
Very entertaining...
Now I know that coincidences do happen...but something similarly crazy has been going on with me!!
:D don't start throwing tomatoes at me. I'm not claiming that I'm predicting the future, or influencing life events (God Forbid!), but in a weird, way...a lot of coincidences I have observed.
(Spoiler Alert: Might contain plot details from my two books. Read further at your own risk)
Exhibit A:
Areeb from "Not That Interested" cheated on Mina by getting High/drunk during some trip abroad. A month later, my friend's partner cheated on them in an uncannily similar way (Under the influence, during a foreign trip).
Exhibit B:
Layla's mother from "Don't Remind Me" was diagnosed with a tumor. A few weeks ago, Someone, I love like my own mother, was similarly diagnosed.
Exhibit C:
Layla from "Don't Remind Me" suffered from child sexual abuse at the hands of someone close to her family. A few days after I started writing this book, someone close to me shared with me their own strikingly similar childhood trauma.
Exhibit D:
My characters attended an Atif Aslam concert in "Don't Remind Me". Organized by their University.
A month later, I heard that my own University was arranging their first ever Atif concert this year. (It actually happened a few days ago!)
I know I'm being weird overthinking it...but I kept remembering the writer from Ruby Sparks, and how his life got messed up because of his weird talent...
What if we could change and edit the story of our lives at will? Or edit people in our lives at will?
How absolutely horrifying it would be!
I have to consult plot details with my bffs, before I finalize my storylines...I don't think I'd enjoy having that much consequential responsibility.
Our lives are very creative. Extraordinarily Detailed. There's absolutely no way a human writer can make them more interesting, or more appropriate than they already are.
If you could edit one person in your life, like Ruby Sparks...who would it be?
(On a side note: I found the picture in description on 9gag. IT FELT MINE. LIKE...ME. #__#)
