The truth lies beyond the attic
I walked in my house yesterday. My husband was sitting on the couch, eating and eight year old daughter was in her room. She isn't good at giving anyone a straight answer. One example is one month ago. All the plates were up in her room. "Why do you have all the plates, Casey?" "Because I have all the plates." "Well, can you tell me why you have all the plates?" "I told you! Because I have all of them!" This went on for quite some time until finally she told me that her dolls and her were having a tea party. Well today I went upstairs to see my daughter. I had had a long day at work and she was always the bright spot of my day. I knocked on the door but she didn't answer. I opened it and she was sitting on her bed coloring. "Hi Casey!" She barley even acknowledged my presence. "What are you drawing?" She stood up and showed me a photo. In it she had drawn her, my husband, and I. I was drawn extremely tall. "Why did you give Mommy long legs?" "Because." "Seriously Casey. Mommy isn't that tall is she?" "No but Lilly is." I gasped. Lilly was my husband and I's first daughter. She was kidnapped when she was three.I never told Casey about Lilly and I didn't think my husband did so I asked her how she knew about Lilly. "Mommy you're silly! Lilly still lives here. I haven't seen her in a while but she lives in the attic with the strange man." My eyes grew wide. Casey shrugged and continued to color. "Lilly said that you got big once. That's Lilly." She pointed to the girl who I thought was her. They looked identical I realized. "Casey, you said Lilly lives in the attic with the strange man?" She nodded. Well later that night, after tucking in Casey, my husband and I thought that maybe Casey was getting lonely. We had an argument over whether or not we should have another child when Casey came into the room. "Lilly says you two should go in the attic." We put Casey back to bed, telling her that there was nothing in the attic but she kept shaking her head. My husband and I decided we would, just to get her to bed. I really wish I went in the attic sooner. Max, my husband, opened the hatch and I climbed up first. I couldn't stop the scream. Lying there was the pale, mutilated corpse of our Lilly. She looked about Six. Beside it was a note. I picked it up and read it. "I'm so so sorry. Please. Just forgive me, Mia. I love you. I know your pregnant now and didn't want to confess in fear that our new daughter would be lost. I did terrible things to our daughter. I'm so so sorry. -Max" My husband had done things to Lilly he wouldn't even mention. He left her body up her. And she died. Nobody could even begin to explain how I felt right now. I wanted to go upstairs and gut that bastard for what he had done. I grabbed my pocket knife and rushed upstairs. When I went to question Max he was gone. I haven't seen him since last night. Casey also was gone. I called Max and he said he had no idea where Casey was. All I can think is who did this? Was it Max? And how did Casey know?
