The process of rescuing both Doctor Shaw and Holloway from the battering storm started with everyone else getting safely inside, and them two being whisked away; with the use of a winch David succeeded in getting them back inside. Only he stepped slightly away when they seemed to both get into a bit of a minor argument. The evacuation from the site was rushed, everyone couldn't get out fast enough. The oncoming storm, which picked up large amounts of both debris and sandy, dusty clouds which blotted out the sky, was coming in fast as the small vehicle they had travelled in couldn't seem to go fast enough to escape its path.
Eventually the parked Prometheus grew closer, everyone wasted very little time in getting out and running towards the now open doorway. By this point the clouds had come, raining down small pieces of stone and making visibility very hard. Elizabeth had tripped and caught herself just in time to see the bag which housed the head go tumbling away; caught up in the high-powered wind which had now appeared.
Naturally upon seeing his other half go tumbling and getting caught up in the storm too, Charlie had charged forwards. He hadn't ended up much better than Elizabeth. But together they managed to hunker down and shield themselves against one of the thick metal legs, which was taking as much of a battering as pieces chipped against it. But it did provide temporary cover, as Elizabeth clutched the bag to her chest, having managed to scramble and reclaim it, and Charlie leaning close by as to try and shield her some more from the storm, which didn't seem like it was going to let up at all.
Considering they were stuck, and if left out there they were likely to get seriously hurt, or get killed by getting swept away; David had grasped onto the nearby winch, wrapped it around himself and gone out. The high-powered wind hit against him and in the end, he leaped from foot to foot, covering a small amount of distance using the wind to push him closer to the pair. He managed to get them all looped in too, and with a quick smile and nod he managed to get them all back to the ship.
Making sure they got in first he shut the door and then stepped away as the pair commenced having a little dispute. Even if Elizabeth did send a small thank you his way, David still didn't exactly want to be near the squabbling pair. Seeing as how the two doctors were okay, everyone diverted and moved off. Standing around in the brightly lit area for departure wasn't exactly how anyone wanted to spend the rest of their day. Of course, Meredith did appear and look them over as they passed her to really make sure that none of them were seriously hurt, or rather to clarify that they were here and that Elizabeth was still in possession of the head.
Not much conversation was shared at this point, everyone being rather lost in their own thoughts. What was there to really say? Alma found herself walking into the bridge of the ship, she eyed up the holographic map which had been projected up. She skirted around the table and looked out, the storm was really picking up out there it seemed.
Tilting her head, she looked over two screens, seeing 'Fifield' and 'Millburn' in the corner of each screen, she figured these were the camera feeds from their suits. Looking up slowly when she realised someone suddenly stood by her side, she raised an eyebrow. "I get the feeling they're lost."
"Hm, are you sure about that, Captain?" Alma hadn't really exchanged words with the Captain of the ship yet. She hadn't really got a reason to. In all honesty, she wasn't really aware to him even being present.
Janek smirked and stuck his hands in his pockets before moving over and pushing a chair out to sit down. "Better send a message to them." He said, not sounding all too serious on the matter. Some part of this was amusing him. Alma looked over her shoulder at the sounds of footsteps, other members of the crew appeared and pottered around minding their own business. Alma crossed her arms and leaned on the back of Janek's chair. She reached up and pushed a strand of hair over her ear. "Boys, this is the Captain. Listen up. Between the static electricity and the wind speed, well, there ain't no safe way to come get you." Janek said, which was true, the read outs which were to the side of him were crazy, and off the charts. Going to get them could result in the ship going down, and taking everyone with it.
"What?" Came a rather blunt response from Fifield.
"Now the temperature is dropping rapidly, so get your helmets on and stay warm, until the storm passes." Janek glanced over his shoulder at Alma, who simply nodded her head.
"Captain, can you get a message to the scientist and that girlfriend of his?"
"Mmhm," Janek hummed and leaned against the arm of his chair.
"You got a pen nearby?" He continued to ask. Still sounding highly irritable and annoyed over this all.
"Nope. Nope. I think we got it."
"Tell them to fuck themselves." Janek laughed lowly and the others in the room did too. "Copy?"
"Copy that. Alright, boys. Keep your heads down and we'll come get you in the morning." Janek clicked off the coms then and looked up and over at Alma. "Isn't it nice to see everyone getting along?"
She smirked and nodded her head slowly. "Yeah, Sean has such a cheery disposition, how can anyone not get along with him?" She asked, totally rhetorical and Janek knew it as he grinned up at her. She waved at him briefly before turning and taking to seeking her room out.
She must be the only one to return to the ship and not do this immediately. In truth, she sort of knew that she was likely to be hunted out. And at the moment she didn't exactly want to talk to David. Him and his secretive moment bugged her, and despite being clearly shut out of whatever it was he was doing, she couldn't help but stew over it. So, as childish as it was, she was avoiding him. She knew he'd palm her off with some rubbish. And she'd keep asking and getting annoyed because he'd keep avoiding the topic. So yes, she was avoiding him.
She enjoyed her moment of solitude, after relaxing in a bath and then dressing in simple dark hareem trousers and a vest she pulled on a cardigan and went off in search for food. She raised an eyebrow at a rather dejected looking Charlie, who was leaning against the pool table, yet she continued on her way. She turned into the kitchen and grabbed what she wanted and left. "Where's everyone else?" She paused and looked to Charlie. He seemed to be in a state of getting drunk, he pushed a ball away from himself and watched it bounce off of others before another came close. He held it in his hand and looked to her with a small frown. Alma just looked at him blankly. "Anytime today would be good."
Charlie leaned away from his other hand and picked up his glass. "Examining the head."
"You're not there?"
Charlie's dark eyes flicked up to look at her. "Are you sure?" He sniggered to himself and tipped the glass back, firmly swallowing the contents in one. He winced and put the glass back down. He pointed a finger her way, "I don't get you."
"What's there to get? I'm here as tech backup."
"No, I don't totally mean that." Charlie waved his hand and looked over her shoulder. "What is there about you to cause our resident robot to trail around and look at you like a lost puppy?"
"Synthetic, or android would be preferred."
"There's a difference?"
Alma opened her mouth and then shut it again. She wasn't going to stand here and talk to someone who was evidently more drunk than sober. She smiled and readjusted her hold on the tray in her hands, she turned and returned back to her room. She simply made herself comfortable, taking to watching one of many things which were backlogged and saved in the systems on the ship. She only looked away when her door opened, frowning and sitting up from where she now reclined against the pillows and headboard, Alma just watched as David simply moved into the room and made himself at home beside her.
He had to move the now empty tray to do so, but once he did he just glanced at her. She was still frowning at him, David looked confused. "What?"
"Just come on in, David! Please, do make yourself at home."
"Sarcasm."
"That it was."
"But you once said I could come to you regardless." David said, he remembered that all too well. She honestly hated the thought of him being alone. He thought it was all very kind of her to be honest. But then that was her, whenever he was involved.
Alma pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. "I was quite enjoying some silent time. It was a good couple of hours," she looked despairingly up at the ceiling. The two hours that she was on her own hadn't felt like much.
David frowned at her, "What's wrong with you?"
Alma double took, she looked rather astonished by that question. "Me? Sorry, me?" She pointed a finger at herself as David nodded. "Nothing."
"Then why are you being so defensive. You've never minded me being here before, so why now?"
"Because you annoyed me."
David sat up and turned to face her, he simply crossed his legs and crossed his arms. Alma remained looking at him from the corner of her eyes. "Oh please, do continue on."
"David...if you're up to something which is off the radar, I would rather you do it without me knowing. I'm privy to you stealing one of those things. I don't know what you plan to do with it. Nor do I totally want to know...but I know."
"So, you are annoyed, or rather your annoyance stems back to me doing something I shouldn't have, and you seeing this action take place, and I am guessing my asking you to stay silent?" Alma nodded at it all, David sighed. "Alma, it is something which in way has been asked of me by Mr Weyland. As it is, you are not meant to know he is here, but you do. I don't want to tell you what I plan to do with it, because I don't think it's fair on you to keep on being expected to keep these things secret, between us two." David said while she sighed and hung her head.
He watched as she nodded her head slowly, "I suppose that does make some sense."
He smiled at that, "It makes a lot of sense."
"Now you're being smug." Alma said while looking across to him.
David tried to look offended at that. "Me? Smug? No, Miss, no, never."
She shook her head and looked back to the screen. She watched the changing images for a moment before looking at him. "I heard from Charlie that the head we found was being examined. Were you there too?"
David seemed to tense slightly from hearing Charlie's name, yet stiffly nodded. Alma looked at him hopefully for some sort of answer, or explanation. "It exploded."
"Sorry?" Alma looked at him confused, not believing she heard right.
David nodded, "A charge was put through it, it couldn't deal with it so..." David trailed off and clapped his hands and threw them apart, Alma pulled a face at the emphasis. "It wasn't very pretty, Alma." He nodded somewhat solemnly.
"Yeah, I never thought an exploding head would be..." David blinked and thought over that for a moment before smiling and shrugging. "So...it all ended in failure then?"
"I wouldn't say that," David said while tracing patterns on the cover in front of him. "There's conflicting views on whether there's more, alive Engineers that is. Meredith doesn't seem to think so, or at least that's the vibe she gave, and Elizabeth is an optimist."
"Do you think there's more?" David shrugged at that, Alma sighed. "What did it look like?"
He slowly smiled, "Nothing gets passed you, hm? True, the head was within a helmet. And even without the helmet on the head underneath was still rather human looking. Not quite like you, slightly larger, broader." He said while lifting his hand up and traced her nose only to childishly tap it. Alma pulled a face and waved his hand away. "It was changing."
"Like?"
David shook his head, "Uncertain as to what it was changing into, and we'll never know." He looked distantly to a corner of the room. "These things sort of had the presumed air of immortality about them, don't you think?" His eyes slowly flicked back to her. "But it died by decapitating itself, and then further yet because of some tampering it exploded. Mortality seems to be a common thing between yourself and your creators."
"Yet not you and yours," Alma said softly, she reached over and patted his hand gently before picking it up and placing it in her lap, though to do this she scooted a little closer and knelt in front of him.
David smiled, if a little painfully. "Ironic."
"I was going to say poetic." Alma said with raised eyebrows as she turned his hand over in hers.
David just watched her for a moment more before breaking the comfortable silence which had flooded into the room. "I also had a run in with Meredith, and even Charlie."
"David..." Alma said slowly while hanging her head with a sigh.
She looked up at him though when he snatched his hand free and placed it under her chin. "I am being honest with you now, Alma. Perhaps it'd be best to listen to me? Because then, that way, you won't feel annoyed, yes?" He said seriously while she just nodded slowly. "I visited Mr Weyland. The conversation there was fleeting and is none of your concern, don't look at me like that. Would you really wish for me to sit here and tell you that he isn't wholly pleased with how things seem to be going? No, see, didn't think so." David said when Alma looked at him unhappily. "Regardless, I met Meredith on the way out, with a threat sent my way about trying to shut me off she didn't seem too pleased with her father wishing for her to work away harder."
"Erm...I don't think you have an off button..."
David smiled, "Oh, no, no I don't, not really. She seemed more interested in finding the main cord and...well, I think I made it worse by offering her tea. But that's not the point. I am not rising to her threat."
"Good going then, I guess?"
David smiled again, "She declined the offer."
Alma pouted, "Did you expect her to accept?" He shook his head, "Exactly. What about Charlie?"
Here David frowned and looked rather displeased by that prospect. "In passing, I apologised for the loss of the Engineers." He said, completely missing out his examination of the canister before finding the doctor. He had taken a sample of the black liquid which was within its own little glass casing and walked off. Charlie just happened to be the first person he came across, drunk and in the same place where Alma had last seen him. He had supplied Charlie with yet more alcohol and he had been less than polite.
"He cracked out a Pinocchio reference?" Alma looked David over dubiously, he frowned darkly and nodded. "What a dick." Alma said with a deep frown and a shake of her head.
"You know, Alma, not everyone shares your outlook when it comes to me, or rather synthetics in general." David smiled kindly at her.
Alma was still frowning and looking hugely unhappy as she glanced back at him. "Was that it?"
"No. No, that was not." David said while explaining the conversation about whether he believed they had wasted their time in coming here. He paused at one part which caused him to turn away and look distantly at the screen. "'We made you because we could.'" He quoted and looked back at Alma, she looked at him sadly. "I had said, or suggested even, how disappointing it would be to hear something like that from his own creators."
"And?" Alma asked quietly, she still had the same concerned look on her face though.
"He said that it was a good thing I can't be disappointed."
"But you can..."
"He doesn't need to know that." David said frankly. Alma had seen him disappointed before in the past. It was evidently a snippet of information Charlie didn't need, nor the others.
"You know...you know I would never truly think like that, right?"
"You have expressed your lack of wanting to have created me in the first place a few times, Alma. You really don't need to again." David said with a sidelong look.
"But..." Alma leaned forwards with a cheeky smile on her face.
"But you are glad you did." David tilted his head and looked down at her. He was totally opting to ignore the fact that he had dropped a sample of black liquid into Charlie's drink; David didn't know what it'd do to his system, his body, and a part of him didn't wholly care really.
"Were you hurt?"
David blinked and looked confused. "I am unable to get hurt." He cottoned on that she was asking about earlier when he went out into the storm.
Alma rolled her eyes, "Damaged then, would you honestly prefer that?" David shook his head, that really did make him sound like more of an object than an actual being.
"No. No, I am fine." He said eventually while looking his arms over, even though he knew there wasn't any sign of damage, he felt like he should look. He had deposited his suit and grey shirt elsewhere as he examined the alien head earlier. The white t-shirt he had on gave him a good view to check for non-existing damage.
"I'm glad." Alma said while flicking the light off by her bedside and laid down. She smiled up at him and waved a hand his way. He smiled and laid down by her side. Turning onto his side he looked to her as she tried to watch the screen only to laugh and hold a hand up and cover his eyes. "You're distracting!" She laughed and separated her fingers, his eyes were still looking at her. Rolling her own, she turned and looked at him, switching the screen off as she went. She sighed and shuffled closer to tuck her head under his, David simply complied and wrapped her up in his arms as he felt her slowly relax and get comfortable. His own eyes shut, even if he couldn't sleep, he could lay in the silent dark and just pretend; he could also lay and forget about all that had happened, and what conversations happened with who, here he could just be at peace, in the silence, holding onto Alma.
