"Kim! Kim! Kimberly!" Emily shook her friend, frantically looking her watch repeatedly. Kimberly huffed, slowly rising from the marble countertop. Emily helped her up, Kimberly's drowsiness overcame her as she leaned on Emily.

But the weight of her was too overbearing for Emily as she walked and Kimberly slipped and fell into the wooden floor beneath her. Emily only shook her head, grabbing her phone as she dialed a number.

"Go on without...me." Kim's voice was raw as she dramatically put her hand out to Emily. Emily rolled her eyes, talking to the person on the other end. A few nods and shakes of the head came from Emily as she gave Kim a few looks.

After the phone call, Emily helped Kim up and told her of the predicament. "So, I told Jamie that somebody in your family died to cover your ass so you're welcome. Now, drink water, don't get a concussion and keep an eye out for that." Emily pointed to the man on the floor in the living room.

Emily placed Kimberly on her bed, Kim knocking out immediately. Emily only chuckled as she closed the door, locking it as well.

Hours later, Kimberly woke up suddenly. She jumped up from her bed, beads of sweat falling from her forehead as she jumped down from her bed and into the kitchen. As Kim was on her way to the kitchen to make herself some coffee - dismissing the fact it was almost noon - she noticed that the man was still unconscious.

Kim made the coffee, pouring into her mug as she heard a sound from her living room. More shifting until the man finally made a noise.

"Can you make me some?"

Kim raised an eyebrow, seeing the man who was just sleeping on her rug walking and talking. The dark haired woman passed the mug to the man, pouring herself another one. Her eyes never left his captivating blue eyes. Even if he woke up from a being stitched up and of the such, his hair was perfect. His hair stood up in every direction perfectly as his face looked like it was sculpted by the gods themselves.

Like, his jawline could probably diamonds.

"Listen, I took the liberty to stitch some random stranger on my new rug, and spent my only day off in months to help you and I don't even know why I'm doing this!" Kim spoke, mostly to herself. She went back to her coffee as she crossed her legs on the stool.

The man also sat down across from her, silently sipping from the mug as well.

"Okay, so I'm going to call you Dave, one of my ex's who was very good at keeping secrets." Kim spoke.

The man - Dave - gave Kim a slight chuckle. He looked down at his cup as he swirled the contents within it before looking at the rest of the apartment. He was staring at the view of Gotham Bay in the afternoon.

"You have a nice apartment. And I'll pay for the window." Dave spoke, gesturing to the broken glass with his mug. Kim smiled as she nodded.

"Okay, this is getting awkward. You don't have to make small talk, like the kind of small time you have the morning after sex." Kim spoke softly, her eyes dropping to the marble counter. Dave turned around, facing Kim this time. Their eyes connected as he placed his hands under his chin and gave Kim his undivided attention.

He nodded, putting his mug aside. His crystal blue eyes piercing Kim's green ones. Kim raised an eyebrow, confused on what he was doing.

"What do you do for a living?" He asks.

"Pardon me?" Kim slightly choked on her coffee, stunted by his question

"Pardon me, that's southern, not Florida, but not New Mexico either. That accent, I know it ... Ah! You're Texan! What would bring a Texan to the lovely Gotham City?"

Kim gave him a look, confusion slapped on her features. She swallowed loudly, standing up as she did. How did he know that?

"A job. That's the answer." Dave answered his own question. "So, what do you do for a living?"

"I-I'm a doctor a Gotham General. H-how did you do that?" Kim question, looking at him nervously. Kim hasn't told anybody about what happened in Texas - only the people who were there knew what happened.

Dave nodded silently, his gaze looking upwards as he pondered. A smirk evident on his face as he hummed for a bit.

Kim grabbed her mug from the counter, refusing to sit back down. She leaned on the drawers and next to her refrigerator as she raised an eyebrow at him. She was willing to give all that information to him and he didn't even know her name?

"Well, Dave, can you tell me why you crashed into my window yesterday?" Kim asked, her tone changing into an aggressive one. She had waste time and effort into helping him and he wouldn't even reveal a sliver of information that led to her window being shattered.

Dave didn't respond but Kim didn't expect him to only turned around to look back at the view. He inhaled softly, his eyes narrowing as finishing his drink. He stood up from the stool and walked to the sink and started washing it.

Kim was having an internal battle. He seemed as a very nice man, but he could be a murderer for all she knew - which was little to nothing. Kim was letting this man wash her mugs and walk around her apartment as if he didn't come in bleeding on her rug hours before.

"So, ah, Kim, how isn't being about to save people's lives everyday?" Dave asked, turning his head to the side to look at Kim. Kim only stared back, returning the silence that was given to her moments before.

Dave raised a beautiful eyebrow, that breathtaking smile returning to his face. How this man isn't a model is beyond Kim.

Woah, woah, woah. How in the hell did he know her name?  Kim furrowed her eyebrows, confusing striking her again.

Dave only chuckled as he closed the tap water and pointed to her cloak. "It says Kimberly Bailey on your tag."

Kimberly looked at her clothes, finally realizing that she slept in her work clothes from yesterday. Silence overcame her as she started to take off her white coat and her button-up. She walked to her room, grabbing a different shirt as she looked around for her phone.

Mumbling curses under her breath, she walked out of her room with a new outfit only to find Dave gone. She raised an eyebrow, walking back to the kitchen to see a small note on his stool. Picking it up, Kim started reading it.

'Thanks for the coffee, K. I'll see you around.

- Dave.'

Kim only sighed as she put the note aside. How did that man make such an impact on her? Crashing into some random person's window does that to people, Kim reassured herself.

The next day, Kim came to work late - but what's new? Kim had a latte in one hand and multiple charts in the other. Her interns quickly ran over to her, helping her with the charts as Kimberly gave them a breathless thank you.

The group walked down the west wing, stopping to check on a few patients before they started rounds. Kim sipped from her drink, needing a kickstart in her day to finally start. Alice - one of her favorite interns - started speaking to her as she finished her latte.

"Harrison Fitzgerald. 34. Brain Tumor." Alice summed up, pointing to the man that was holding his wife's hand. It was cute, but unfortunately he was going into surgery within the hour. The interns briefed the man about the surgery as she called the head of neuro.

As Kim finished her call, she was pulled to the hallway by Emily - not surprising.

Kim awaited a reason for this sudden meeting between the two as she seemed over eccentric this fine morning. Kim sighed as she wished she had the energy of that woman. And to make it better, Emily didn't drink coffee! She would occasionally drink coffee when Kimberly would ask if she wanted to make a quick coffee run to clear their heads.

"Okay, so the hospital is throwing a fundraiser. Apparently one of our sponsors - the Wayne Foundation - is partnering with Stagg Pharmaceuticals!" Emily gushed, a smile plastering on her face. Kim raised an eyebrow at the new information. The Wayne Foundation has many friends in high places - including Stagg, why would they want to throw a fundraiser for this specific hospital?

Emily shot Kimberly an exasperated look as she rolled her eyes. "And all the staff is invited! What are you going to wear?"

"Woah, woah, when is it?" Kim asked, putting her hands on her hips.

"Friday! Aren't you excited?" Emily asked, but she already knew the answer to that. Kim inhaled, taking a looked at her patient one more time before turning back to Emily.

"We'll talk about this later, I got a brain tumor and Doctor Faye to deal with."

Emily's jaw dropped, punching Emily's shoulder. "You always get the good cases! I am so going to scrub in for this one. Last brain tumor Carter said I had to take your rounds and miss the surgery."

Kim laughed as she shoo'ed her friend away, going to back to her patient. The interns were finished with the pre-OP and the patient was ready for surgery.

Kim's eyes met Doctor Jensen Faye's as they both nodded, rolling the patient out of his room and onto the huge elevator and onto the OR floor.

"Ready, Sir?" Kim asked, looking down at him as he smiled weakly and nodded.

"As I'll ever be."
