Chapter 17: Where are we?

"Where are they?" Celine said more to herself than me. We were currently sitting in a coffee shop and we have no idea where the guys are, I don't even know why we are here in the first place.

"Why are we here?" I finally asked.

"To get a drink and brainstorm on possible places the guys might go to apart from here." what?

"How do you know if they'll even be here?" I asked exasperated.

"Luke's aunt owns the place, She's sick so the guys promised to always come visit her on Tuesdays and Fridays" Celine said explained and I nodded in understanding.

"What if they come in and see us?" I asked wondering if she thought of that possibility.

"Oh shoot" she said packing her stuff, "I didn't think of that, let's go to that end of the cafe." she said pointing at the seats at the far end of the cafe. Once we were seated, the door opened and the guys came in. "Cover your face with this." Celine said giving me a paper with names of food written on it.

"Aunt Kathy, we can't stay long. We have a huge pile of homework and we also have to babysit the kids so we can't stay." Luke said to a middle aged woman who just smiled in return.

"It's fine, make sure you come next week, ok?" She said

"Aye aye Kathy." Cole said giving her a salute.

"Where is Matt?" Jace asked and the rest just looked around probably in search of the so-called Matt.

"He's hanging out with his new girlfriend. He doesn't spend time here anymore" aunt Kathy explained sadly, "Now you boys run along, I have customers to attend to."

"Bye!" Cole yelled while the others just waved at her.

"Let's follow them." Celine said dropping the money for our drinks on the table and dragged me out. The boys drove out of the parking lot and Celine called a taxi, "please follow that car sir." she told the driver who gave her a weird look, "I'm not a stalker, It's my boyfriend, I want to know if he's cheating." she lied without even blinking and the driver seemed to believe her because he drove out immediately.

Celine and I arrived at our destination. It was not what I was expecting at all.

"I thought he stopped." Celine whispered. We were at a very noisy place with people crowded at every corner, they were smoking, fighting and a whole lot of unmentionables.

"Where are we?" I asked a little bit scared.

"At a race track." Celine said walking inside, "let's go find the boys."

"What?! Why?!" I asked immediately, this place looked terrifying and I'm probably going to get lost in the swarm of people here.

"Don't be such a baby, let's go." she said rolling her eyes at me.

"Hey angels." we turned around only to see a man in a complete black suit looking at us.

"What do you want?!" Celine said boldly and I was shaking a bit, are angels supposed to be fearless?

"This is not a good place for you kids, you know." he said and I couldn't help but agree with him.

"How's that your business?" Celine retorted.

"Let's get you kids home." the man said sitting down in the backseat of a silk black car, "boys get them inside the car." did I forget to say that this man had a lot of men in black around him? The men started coming closer to us, cracking their knuckles.

"Stand back!" I said somewhat confidently only to get a couple of chuckles as a reply. The men grabbed Celine and I kicked the guy holding her and punched the one that was closer to me.

"What the -", the men became more aggressive and I used all the skills I've been taught to defend Celine and I. I took most of the men down but one guy hit my left shoulder with a baseball bat, the same shoulder that was injured previously. I winced in pain and before I could recover from the pain, another man grabbed my hands and pushed me to my knees in front of the man that seemed like the boss.

"Let her go." the boss said waving them off, "I didn't expect you to actually fight back. I know this may sound crazy but I truly wanted to take you and your friend home."

"Are you serious?" I asked the man although I was still in pain.

"Yes, I am." He said before coming closer to my ear and whispered, "here is my number, if you need anything, just call. I've never seen a girl like you before." he said giving me a pat on the head and a business card, "my name is Frank and I'll see you next time."

"I'm Elena, nice to meet you Frankie" I said smiling at him, Frankie was the name the twins called their friend so it just fell out naturally from my mouth.

"Don't call me Frankie, I haven't heard that since middle school" he grumbled and signaled his men to enter their cars and he was about to leave.

"Bye Frankie!" I yelled after him

"Don't call me..." And the car drove out.

"Elena! Are you ok?" Celine said rushing to my side.

       "I'm fine"

"What the ...?, Elena, Celine what are the both of you doing here?!!" I heard a very familiar voice yell.

"Jace, I can explain" Celine started.

"Jace, the race will soon start" Luke said from behind Jace, "Celine? Elena?, What are you girls doing here?"

"Cole, take them home. We'll talk about this at home" Jace said clearly annoyed. It was then that I noticed Cole who was still in a state of shock. Celine didn't even look bothered about our current situation and I, on the other hand, am currently shaking in fear. Why? Because I haven't even been friends with the guys for a completely week and it was going to end in a second.

We were all in Jace's living room and Cole hasn't said a word since we arrived and it has been an hour. My shoulder was now stinging in pain and I couldn't do anything about it because of the tension in the living room, Celine was on her phone since the past hour and I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one bothered by the trouble we are in. The front door opened and Jace stormed in.

"What were you thinking Celine?!" Jace yelled, "that place is dangerous, what if something happened to both of you?!"

"We were at Kathy's cafe and we saw you guys walk in. I was wondering where you guys were going to and Elena suggested we follow you guys, that how we..." Celine lied, not completely, but she lied with my name, how could she? I immediately looked at Cole and he signaled me to keep quiet.

"Celine just go home." Jace said calmly and Celine left the house.

"She hasn't changed a bit." Cole said.

"What do you mean?" I asked

"Celine likes to put the blame on other people. She hates being blamed for something even if she did it." Luke explained taking a seat on the couch.

"Come on Elena, let's go make dinner." Cole said slinging his arm over my shoulder and I winced in pain, "Elena, are you ok?" Cole asked looking at me.

"Elena? What's wrong?" Jace came rushing to me.

"We were stopped by some men at the race track and one of them hit my shoulder with a baseball bat." I explained briefly.

"This is why I didn't want you girls to come there in the first place." Jace said leading me to the kitchen. He lifted me a little and sat me down on the kitchen island. He opened one of the cupboards and brought out a first aid kit.

"This is the second time I'm treating the same shoulder. You should be careful or else you'll damage it permanently." Jace said helping me out of my jacket, thank God I was wearing a tank top or else it would have been awkward.

"Jace, Elena we are going home now" Luke said from the living room.

"Looks like Jace has everything under control now, wink wink." Cole grinned.

"Why do you have to say ' wink wink ' ?" Luke asked and I nodded in agreement, " you could have just winked"

"You guys can go now!!" Jace yelled playfully.

"Bye!" I yelled after them, " where is everyone?" I asked noticing the house was empty.

"At my aunt's for dinner." Jace explained wrapping my shoulder with a bandage.

"Why do you race?" I asked going straight to the point because it was obvious Jace wasn't planning on telling me anything.

"I got involved with a bad group two years ago, to cut the story short, I owe them a lot of money and now I have to race for them to repay my debt." Jace surprisingly explained and I nodded in understanding although I still had a lot of questions to ask but I left it for another day.

"I have a feeling you get injured just so I can treat it  for you." Jace said playfully which surprised me.

I scoffed, "you wish, I just don't have money to go to the hospital" Jace just laughed, a genuine laugh and I smiled in return.
