11th Chapter

After a week Osman and I have arrived to Edirne with so many servants because Kösem was afraid for Osman there. She thought I would bring only bad things to Osman while I am close to him and even after five months she couldn't accept me as his wife.

The palace at Edirne was a very different world from Topkapi. The palace was located in nature itself in the middle of a forest and a fairytale river that flowed next to the palace.

Immediately as we got out of the carriage, the chirping of birds was heard and the smell of nature was felt, something that did not exist in Istanbul.

As I got out of the carriage, Osman offered his hand to help me out. He gave me a big smile hoping that a holiday in Edirne would succeed in evoking my happiness, which I could not feel in Istanbul, where there was constant tension in the palace.

"I wish we could one day go together to Sanjak like this, far from the palace and far from Kosem,” Osman said as we entered the Palace where all the servants bowed.

" You know your father broke the tradition of going to Sanjak, the chances of that are slim,” I told him not wanting to kill his luck, but I was just telling him the truth because his straining to go to Sajak would only turn against Sultan Ahmed.

"That dream will live in me even if not realized, to be with you somewhere far from the eyes of my mother and all the others who only wish us ill," Osman said as we entered his chambers and took my hands in his.

“Prince, I hope you like how we have prepared the palace for you,” the chief eunuch of the palace in Edirne said as he entered Osman’s chambers interrupting our emotional moment.

"Everything is great, Gul Ağa, thank you," Osman said and smiled at him.

“We have prepared chambers for Huma Hatun,” he said.

"No need, Hüma will be with me. My chambers are hers too," Osman said and smiled at me and at that moment made me the happiest woman in the world.

The servants prepared us a dinner where we ate together, and I have never in my life felt so beautiful as in Edirne with Osman, where we were alone and at peace.

"How come you didn't take Melexima? I saw that she was very disappointed in our departure," I told him, trying to reveal to him his true feelings for her, because I was afraid that after the birth his heart belonged to her and not to me.

"I didn't consider it necessary, I just wanted to spend time with you," Osman said and kissed my lips gently.

“When I’m with you here I feel like I’m dreaming,” I told him and looked him deep in the eye.

"I will do my best and give my best for your happiness, seeing you happy my heart is full and it beats only for you," Osman said and kissed my lips once more tenderly.

His hand slid from my hair toward my neck, then all over my back touching me gently making me shiver from his touch. My hand landed on his chest unbuttoning his nightgown. Osman took me in his arms and laid me on the bed, unbuttoning my outer dress and my nightgown, leaving me with nothing in front of him. His lips slid over my body.

“Good morning Prince, an important announcement has come from Istanbul,” Gul Ağa woke us up as we lay in bed wrapped only in a silk bed.

Osman took the letter and started reading it, and he was quite upset that I was scared of what had happened.

"Osman, is everything all right?" I asked him anxiously afraid of what was happening in his absence.

"Read it," Osman said, handing me a letter from his stepmother, Kosem Sultana.

My dear Osman,
your father Sultan Ahmed Khan invited you to go to Bursa but also to take your army with you. From there you will embark on a campaign to Persia that has been suddenly announced. Take care there and take care of yourself!
Kosem Sultan

"Osman, don't believe this, why would your father ask you to lead the army?" I asked him confused by Kosema's letter, there was something strange about it and my initiation never deceived me.

"I must not violate my father's orders, I must go on a campaign with him," Osman said and got out of bed.

"Then why wouldn't your father or one of the viziers tell you? But your stepmother Kösem, who hasn't been on good terms with you lately anyway?" I asked him trying to get him to give up his intention.

"My mother used to keep me informed about things like this because she likes to have all things under her control," Osman snapped at me, obviously angry at my persuasion not to go.

"Why would she make you send an army from Edirne then? What is her intention in that? Your father will think you are rebelling against him," I yelled at him for the first time trying to make him finally understand some things.

"Enough Huma, I'll go there tomorrow," Osman said angrily and left the chambers.

After getting dressed I left Osman’s chambers and headed towards Gul Aga who brought us a letter. I didn't even know how much I could trust that man, but something had to be done.

"Gul Ağa, call me Mahmud Pasha, the commander of the army in Edirne," I told him, to which he just nodded and went to inform him.

Secretly, without Osman's knowledge, I went to the Pearl Pavilion, where I met Mahmud Pasha, from whom I wanted to learn information.

"Sultan, did you call me?" Mahmud Pasha asked me confused about my arrival and the desire to meet him.

"Mahmud Pasha, what is the matter with the war with Persia? Prince Osman was called to go with the army to Bursa where he would join Sultan Ahmed in the campaign," I told him to which he just looked at me confused.

"Sultana, there is no war with Persia, a peace treaty has been made with them, I do not understand what kind of expedition you are talking about," Mahmud Pasha tells me as I just left the Pearl Pavilion and headed for the Palace where Osman was preparing to go on a campaign.

"Osman, you're not going anywhere," I told him, to which he just glared at me because my words sounded like an order to him.

"Huma, know your place, you can't order me not to go when I fall like that in my father's eyes," Osman told me, trying to be as calm as possible even though I got on his nerves a lot.

"Kosem set a trap for you, a peace treaty was made with Persia, she just wanted to draw your father's wrath on you," I told him, looking at me palely.

"What?" he asked me confused and shocked.

"If you don't believe me, ask Army Commander Mahmud Pasha," I told him.
