Chapter 8: Thanator Chase
A/N: Alright, welcome back! I might end up pulling up some updates today and maybe tomorrow, since Monday, I'll be working. Remember, own nothing except for my OC, and Alex belongs to a friend.
(Siera's POV-Forest of Pandora)
I blink my eyes rapidly as I watch the Titanothere with big eyes. Jake immediately gets his gun ready and I glare at him. Alex just stands there, tail flicking wildly behind him. The Titanothere roars as it lifts its head. It knocks a couple of vines down as it steps closer.
"Don't shoot," Grace says as she and Norm walk up to a tree. "Don't shoot, you'll piss him off." The Titanothere roars again as it knocks the trees down and Jake keeps his gun raised.
"It's already pissed off," he shoots back at her. He keeps his gun raised at the herbivorous creature. Grace rolls her eyes.
"Jake, that armor's too thick, trust me," she says to him as Jake finally listens, the stubborn ass, and lifts his gun up. "It's a territorial threat display. Do not run, or he'll charge."
"She's right," I say. "They're territorial."
"Not helping, Siera!" Alex says.
"So, what do I do? Dance with it?" Jake asks.
"Just hold your ground." Grace answers. I roll my eyes.
"Like that'll help!" I retort. Grace shoots me a look that says shut up, and I immediately blink at her, but don't argue. Alex flicks his tail again, and I see that even though there's fear in his eyes, he doesn't actually show it. Instead, he keeps his eyes on the Titanothere, watching its movements. Jake does too, not once turning away as the creature runs one of its large paws on the forest floor, looking like it's ready to charge. Then, Jake does one of the most insane yet stupidest moves I've seen him pull. He literally almost charges the Titanothere head on, screaming.
The beast stops, as Jake chuckles, me rolling my eyes only to hear footsteps. I blink and my eyes widen. Shit!
"Yeah, come on! What you got?" He says, taunting the Titanothere as it starts to walk back in fear. My eyes are almost bulging out of my skull because something dangerous is here. Very dangerous. My pinna flatten to the sides of my skull. I look behind Jake.
"Yeah, who's bad? That's right. Yeah, that's what I'm talking about, bitch." I stand there, Alex gasping softly as well as I see a large black Thanator, or as the Na'vi call it, Palulukan, standing there. It snarls low as the Titanothere looks at the carnivorous predator before racing off with a trumpet. Jake, still as oblivious as ever, continues his banter.
"That's right, get your punk ass back to mommy. Yeah? Yeah, you got nothing. You keep running," The Thanator lifts its head, starting to growl very low. "Yeah, and why don't you bring back some of your friends, huh?" The growls get louder to where Jake can hear, and his eyes widen as he looks back to see the Thanator as it roars and jumps over our heads, landing in front of the Titanotheres. They run first chance they get, not taking any chances staying around. Jake lifts his gun.
"Oh, shit!" He says after the Thanator jumps over our heads. As it turns around and looks at us, Jake keeps his gun on the six-legged apex predator of Pandora. He turns to Grace and back to the Thanator as he talks.
"What about this one? Run, don't run, what?" The Thanator growls again as Grace yells,
"Run! Definitely run!" As soon as she says this, I'm already scrambling up the tree, while Jake and Alex break into full on sprints to get away from the creature. The foliage around them gets destroyed as the Thanator continues to chase Jake and Alex. Jake jumps over a log, almost pulling Alex with him as he does. Jake slides into the raised stump of a tree, and with a cry, shoots the Thanator.
Stupid move, I think. It's gonna get you killed. I break my gaze from the Thanator as Jake comes out, losing his gun only for the Thanator to grab his pack, flinging him in the air. Jake does the next thing almost in slow motion, he unbuckles his pack from his back, and falls. Alex takes off his, then throws it to try to get the Thanator's attention. It works, but only somewhat. I shed off my own pack then continue to race through trees and more foliage to catch up with the two men while keeping downwind of the Thanator. Obviously, it doesn't work, and I sprint away, to keep him off Alex and Jake's backs. I kick off the large shoes provided to me, and throw off the shirt I was forced to wear to reveal a large sports bra over me. Not that it matters. I swing the shirt twice then take off the shorts provided to me as well, flinging those to throw off the Thanator's scent trail more then I follow the boys straight to the water.
"No time ta gawk! Jump!" I yell at both Jake and Alex as we leap off the edge of the cliff, before the Thanator could follow us. I cross my arms as we fall into the water feet first, and I lift my head, coughing up the water. Alex and Jake do the same, coughing as well. I turn to Jake as he leans an arm against a tree trunk in the water.
"You okay?" Alex asks me, an arm around my shoulders. I nod at him.
"Aye, a bit scratched from the branches, but other than that, I'll live." He nods then surprises me by wrapping his arms around me. I hide my face in his wet shirt and jacket to hide the blush on my face. I then look at Jake as he looks up at the sun.
"We should go. Night's starting to fall." Alex says. Jake and I nod, I'm just happy that Jake isn't arguing. We hear the roars of the Thanator, looking at the predator before we swim away.
