Chapter 24: Escape from Hell's Gate

A/N: Alright, we're back!!!! So, as I said last chapter, I have someone making a cameo appearance in this book, but he won't actually show until the second book. So let's get to it!!

(Siera's POV-Hell's Gate)

I cough into my hand as the guard throws me into the cell alongside Jake, Norm, Grace and Alex. Alex scoops me up into his arms, cradling me to his chest as he runs his fingers through my hair.

"Siera!" He calls out, taking me in his arms as he growls in rage. "I'll kill Quaritch." Jake then turns to me.

"So....you mentioned someone back when we were in the room with Parker and Quaritch. Your brother?" I nod and say,

"Aye. He's a Major in the military. Goes by the codename Rook. We were always doing stupid shit fer fun an' whatnot." Grace blinks.

"Wait, you mean that crazy jarhead?" I nod and say,

"He might be crazy, but he's loyal as hell." Alex nods and says,

"Well, let's just hope he comes through for us." I turn to him.

"He will. No doubt." I then look up as I see Trudy walking in.

"What's going on, brother? Long time no see." She says to the guard as she is pushing a food trolley as Jake turns around in his wheelchair, Grace, Norm and Alex getting up. I do the same as well.

"Hey," the security man says to her as Norm looks up. Trudy walks in further.

"Personally, I don't feel these tree-hugging traitors deserve steak." The security guard scoffs.

"They get steak, that's bullshit. Let me see that." He bends down to check the trolley, only to feel the muzzle of the pistol against his head. Trudy then chuckles.

"Yeah," she says. "You know what that is. Down." The security guard then sinks to his knees as Trudy proceeds to keep it to his head.

"Trudy!" Norm says as he, Alex, Grace and I get up.

"All the way down." Trudy says then pistol-whips him on the head, knocking him out. She then slips the gun in the back of her uniform as she calls,

"Max!" Max then rushes in, Trudy handing him the key card, then he scans it, helping us escape. Once we're out, we race across the hallways. Jake wheels alongside Alex and myself as Grace, Max and Norm follow us on our heels.

"Trudy, fire up the ship!" Jake orders. "Go!" He says to Norm. I then break away from the group as Alex grabs my arm.

"Wait, where you going?" He asks. I turn to him and kiss him quickly.

"To contact someone. I'll be back." Alex shakes his head.

"Not without me, you're not," he interjects. I roll my eyes.

"Alex—........."

"No, not this time. I won't lose you. I almost lost you once because of that damn Quaritch. I will have your back, no matter what." I nod my head as I bolt towards Quaritch's office as Alex is on my heels. I wish I could hear more of the conversation between Trudy and Norm but I don't as we race to Quaritch's office.

"Where are we going?" Alex asks me as he stays on my heels. I stay hidden as I look back at him and answer,

"To get reinforcements." Alex raises a brow, but doesn't say anything. I turn a corner, getting ever closer to Quaritch's office. I then turn back to Alex.

"Yah have ma back?" I ask him. He nods and answers truthfully,

"Always." I nod then race inside.

The office isn't as cluttered as I thought it would be, considering he's a Col., and I've been here before, twice. Sucking in a breath, I reach for the comm links on the table next to what seems to be a plaque that has his name and rank. I then start speaking into the radio, while Alex stays outside on lookout,

"Alpha-One Actual, this is Hell's Gate, do you copy, over?" I then hear static, then a man's voice, a voice that sounds familiar,

"Hell's Gate, this is Alpha-One Actual, give me a sip-rep, over." Recognizing the voice right away, I yell into the comms,

"Rook, this is Wolf! Do not trust the RDA, I repeat, do not trust the RDA!" A gunshot sounds off, I turn my head to see Quaritch with the Wasp pistol in hand. Alex immediately tackles him, and yells to me,

"Go!" I bolt out of there as fast as I can, my feet carrying me to where the emergency rebreathers are, just as I see Trudy, Jake, Norm and Grace.

"Clear!" Norm says as he looks around before Trudy starts her Samson.

"Come on, baby," she says as she starts her Sampson.

(Quaritch's POV)

I turn my head despite the pain that Maverick gave me after I caught both him and his girl in my office.

"Col., sir," a soldier says. I walk up to her. "I got a situation here." I look at the screen as she enhances the cameras.

"It's Samson 1-6. Unauthorized engine start." My entire face hardens as I slap down the papers I had in my hand, grab a CARB sub machine gun and kick the emergency door open as the soldiers inside race for exo-packs.

"Mask on!" I yell as I kick the emergency door open. I then hear the woman say inside as everyone scrambles for rebreather units,

"Gas, gas, gas!" I then immediately start shooting the Samson.

(Siera's POV-Trudy's Samson)

I hear the gunshots of a CARB sub machine gun as Norm and Grace help Jake inside the Samson.

"I'm taking heavy fire! Let's go!" Trudy calls to us as we finally get Jake and his wheelchair in, then myself and Alex as well. We pull in Grace as the Samson starts taking off. However, I then hear the gunshots of a Wasp sidearm next. With help from Norm and Alex, we pull Grace in then sit down. As we take off, obviously the gunshots from the CARB stop, but then a Wasp sidearm starts shooting as we take off and escape from Hell's Gate once and for all.

(Quaritch's POV)

I don't put my Wasp down for a while as I watch the traitors leave, then I turn as one of the soldiers walks out with a rebreather unit over his face, another in his hand.

"Col.!" He says to me. I just take it, slip it on and breathe in as the air pressurizes. This will not be good for them. Those traitors will pay for treason.

(Siera's POV-Trudy's Samson)

I can hear Jake and Alex cheering as we finally make our escape from Hell's Gate.

"Yeah!" Jake says, clinging on to the Samson by one of the tethers attached to it. Trudy chuckles from the cockpit.

"Is everybody alright back there?" She asks.

"Oh, yeah, baby!" Jake answers with a cheer. I then hear Grace mutter at my side,

"Crap." I turn to her as she pulls her hand away from her stomach and it comes back red. Oh no.

"Norm, you good?" Jake asks as he turns his head, then his eyes land on myself and Grace.

"Yeah!" Norm says cheerfully.

"This is gonna ruin my whole day." Grace says, as Jake moves closer to her.

"Grace is hit!" He exclaims. Alex gasps.

"No!" He says.

"What?" Trudy says. Jake then turns to Norm.

"Get the trauma kit." He orders.

"Trauma kit!" Norm calls out to Trudy.

"Trauma kit's forward on the bulkhead." Trudy explains to Norm as Jake looks Grace in the eyes.

"Keep the pressure on, Grace." He tells her.

"It doesn't matter," Grace says, groaning stiffly in pain. "It's fine." She winces again. I shake my head as Alex sits me down.

"You okay?" He asks me. I shake my head.

"No," I say. "I don't. M' feelin' sick." Jake hears this and turns to me.

"Sick how?" He asks. I shrug.

"Like 'm bout ta puke, numbnuts." I say sarcastically. Alex nods.

"Once we get to the Hallelujah Mountains, I'll let you rest in the link room, okay?" He asks me. I nod to him again, taking his hand.

"Aye. Thanks, Alex."

(The Hallelujah Mountains)

Once we're at the Hallelujah Mountains, Trudy decides the best way to keep us off the RDA's radar is to move our site. So Norm will be in his Avatar form the entire time while the rest of us will be inside the link room. Both mine and Grace's link beds are open, and like I said before, I had emptied my guts in a nearby trash can, which was then thrown out afterwards.

"You okay?" Alex asks me as he rubs my back tenderly. I nod and tell him,

"Aye. I'll be fine." I then turn as I hear Jake say into a radio in his hand,

"Just keep going north. Get us deep into the mountains." Trudy answers back,

"Copy that." As Jake pulls away from the window, a canister of water falls over and I watch as Jake picks it up then says to Norm through the radio,

"Norm, you all good up there?"

"Yep, still here." Norm answers.

"At least they can't track us up here," Trudy comments. "Not this far into the Vortex."

"It's strongest at the Tree of Souls, right?" Jake asks as he reaches into the trauma kit for a vaccine.

"Yeah." Trudy answers.

"Good," Jake remarks. "Cause that's where we're going." He then turns to me.

"Alex, she good?" He asks him. Alex nods.

"She should be. Hopefully it's just a sickness that will pass. Maybe when all this is over and done with, I'll get Max or one of the scientists to take a look at her," Alex answers. "Check on Grace." Jake nods then grabs the vaccine and heads back to Grace. I cough again as it rattles my body.

"I'll be fine," I hiss. "It's nothing bad." Alex frowns.

"I beg to differ." He remarks. I squeeze his hand.

"Wait until we get back in our Avatars, then bitch at me all yah want." I tell him. Alex chuckles and kisses my cheek. As we continue moving, we pass the Tree of Souls, and I turn to Grace and Jake as Jake inserts the needle into Grace's arm.

"Ouch," she says.

"You big baby." Jake says as he lifts the blanket some to look at her wound, then puts it back over.

"We're moving." Grace says. Jake looks at her.

"I'm gonna get you some help, Grace," he says as he pulls the blanket over her to keep her warm.

"I'm a scientist, remember?" Grace reminds him. "I don't believe in fairytales." Jake looks at her sternly.

"The People can help you." He says to her. I turn to him in shock.

"Why would they help us?" Grace asks. Jake obviously doesn't answer her as we fly over the Tree of Souls. After I rest, however, I then get up and get ready to link up to my Avatar. Jake and Alex do too.

"The People say, Eywa will provide," Jake says. "With no home, no hope, there was only one place they could go." Norm immediately switches on our links.

"Links are ready," he says to us. "What's the plan here, Jake?" He then asks. Jake scoffs as he gets into the link.

"There's no plan," he says. I roll my eyes.

"Well said." I say sarcastically.

"Tsu'tey is Olo'ekytan now. He's not gonna let you near that place. Neither of you." He turns to me and Alex.

"We gotta try." Jake says as he lies down, and so do myself and Alex.

"Launching." Norm says as he starts our links. Once our links close, we're gonna be in our Avatars.

Here we go, let's just hope Jake's plan isn't stupid.
