Chapter 13: Covert Report

A/N: Chapter 13, here we go!! So, this one will probably be short, but we may find out some information that is being kept hidden from my OC. We'll have to see. We will get to the dreams eventually. I just want to knock a couple of these chapters out before hand. Remember, I own NOTHING! Except for my OC. Also, her outfit that she wears in the Omatikaya clan in her Avatar form is in her bio.

After breakfast, we then head up to brief Quaritch on what happened, though I'm still very nervous about him.

"The Jarhead clan?" He questions Jake as he nods.

"Mm-hmm." Jake tells him. Quaritch laughs.

"And it worked?" Jake leans back in his wheelchair.

"Hey, I'm practically family. Well, we are. They're gonna study us, have to learn to be one of them."

"That's called taking the initiative, son," Quaritch says. "I wish we had ten more like you. And you two as well." He looks at Alex and I. I blink. Why me? I just followed them. Parker then gets our attention.

"Guys, just figure out what the blue monkeys want. You know, I mean, we try to give them medicine, education, roads," he explains. "But no, no, they like mud, and that wouldn't bother me, it's just that they're..." he then turns to someone.

"Hey, can you....can somebody just....Sector 12." Someone starts moving the hologram at a fast speed.

"Go, go, go," Parker says. "Stop. Stop...Rich, stop. That's...Jesus!" He then watches as the screen zooms in on the Hometree. I suck in a very small breath, crossing my arms.

"Their damn village," Parker continues, "happens to be resting on the richest unobtanium deposit within 200 klicks in any direction. I mean, look at all that cheddar!" I look at the hologram. If he really believes that this so-called unobtanium is at Hometree, he's wrong on so many levels. I blink my eyes as Jake asks,

"Well, who gets them to move?" Quaritch, who is leaning against the back of a chair, answers,

"Guess." I chuckle, and Parker gives me a look. I bite my lip.

"Something up, Indian Bitch?" He says. I blink.

"What did yah just call me?" I ask.

"Guys, no, that's enough." Quaritch says, grabbing my arm. I yank my hand away.

"No, what the hell did he just call me?! I'm talking to yah, yah no good, money-grubbing, greedy son of a bitch! Yah think yer so slimy, yah little weasel? Think yah can get away with callin' me that? News flash, pal, yah don't. I'm gonna bust yer face in, dipshit!" I lunge for him, only for Alex to pull me back.

"No, don't," he says. "That's enough. Look around." I do, out of instinct and I see that a couple of the soldiers have gotten up and are close to pulling out their guns. I grit my teeth. I can't fight these guys. I can't. I suck in air through my teeth and glare at Parker as Alex sets me down.

"Proceed." I say. Parker nods as Jake looks at Quaritch.

Jake scoffs then looks at Quaritch then at Parker. "What if they won't go?" He asks.

"Oh, I'm betting that they will." Quaritch says as he walks up to the hologram.

"Okay, okay, okay, okay, hey. Look, look," Parker says as he walks closer to Jake. I narrow my eyes, but Alex keeps me in place. "Killing the indigenous looks bad, but there's one thing that shareholders hate more than bad press, and that's a bad quarterly statement. I didn't make up the rules. So just find me a carrot that'll get them to move, otherwise it's gonna have to be all stick. Okay?"

"Didn't make up the rules, my arse." I hiss, earning looks again. I just roll my eyes and keep my mouth shut this time as Quaritch speaks.

"You've got three months. That's when the 'dozers get there." Jake then says as my heart sinks,

"Well, we're wasting time." He turns to Parker as he says this. Parker smiles and slaps his shoulder.

"I like this guy." I roll my eyes as we walk out, until Quaritch pulls me back.

"Got something for you," he says. He then holds up a small leather-bound book. I gasp, seeing that even though it's somewhat frayed at the edges, I recognize it. It's my mother's research journal. I thought that was sent back to Earth with the rest of her belongings after she died. I growl.

"Where the hell did yah get this?" I snap at him. Quaritch moves his hand so that the book is out of reach and says,

"Doesn't matter. Your mother should've listened and paid attention to orders." I growl.

"She was a scientist, not a soldier." I spit, as Quaritch pins me against the wall like before. I whimper. I did not expect him to be this strong. I really didn't. I grit my teeth.

"Either you listen, or I'm gonna have to resort to....different measures." His hand runs along my hipbone and I whimper again. I bite my lip. He then pulls away.

"Get it done, Sergeant." He says. I walk out, shaking. Alex notices my shaking form, and so does Jake.

"What happened?" Jake asks, but I shake my head.

"Let's just go." I spit. Alex then pulls me by the arm.

"What happened?" He asks me in Na'vi. I shiver.

"Quaritch," I say, making him growl.

We then make it to the room as Grace pulls up pictures.

"Okay, let's run through them again," she says as she shows Jake the first picture: Mo'at.

"Mo'at," he says. "Dragon lady." Grace then shows Eytukan.

"Eytucan," he says, pronouncing the chief's name wrong.

"Eytukan," Grace corrects him. "He's the clan leader. But she's the spiritual leader. Like a shaman."

"Got it." Jake says as he climbs into his link. He then looks as the picture changes.

"T'su'tey," he says, pronouncing the warrior's name wrong as I roll my eyes.

"Tsu'tey," Grace says, correcting him.

"Tsu'tey." Jake repeats, getting his name right.

"He'll be the next clan leader," Grace explains, then shows Neytiri. Surprisingly, Jake doesn't stumble over her name, as he takes the portscreen.

"Neytiri." Grace hums.

"She'll be the next Tsahik. They become a mated pair." Jake looks at her.

"So who's this Eywa?" Alex and I look shocked and so does Norm.

"Who's Eywa?" He asks, shocked. "Only their deity. Their goddess, made up of all living things. Everything they know! You'd know this if you had any training whatsoever." Jake holds up the screen still showing Neytiri's face on it.

"Who's got a date with the chief's daughter?" He asks. I roll my eyes. Alex groans.

"Come on. That's..." Norm says before Grace cuts them off.

"Alright, knock it off, you two. Let's go. Village life starts early." She then leads Norm away, before turning to us. She then looks at Jake again.

"Don't do anything unusually stupid." She tells him, making me chuckle. He chuckles as well before his link bed closes. She then turns to us.

"What are you guys waiting for? Go!" She says. I want to tell her more about the dreams but I can't. I pull Alex in for a quick kiss, despite the blush on my face, as I say,

"Good luck." Alex chuckles as he wraps his arms around me and says,

"You as well." We then get into our link beds to link with our Avatars. Once we do, we race to where Neytiri and Jake are, Neytiri leading a direhorse.

I watch as another licks at a plant, getting the honey that is inside. I'm just mesmerized by the beauty of this world. I turn back as Alex walks up with two direhorses.

"You serious right now?" I ask him. He nods.

"Yes," he says. "Neytiri is teaching us."

"I'm supposed to be a healer, not a hunter," I say. "I don't think riding direhorses is even in the books for a healer." Mo'at hums.

"You will need to learn eventually," she says. I didn't even realize she had walked up to me. "Just in case if something were to happen." I nod and thank her in Na'vi before following Alex. I can see Mo'at smiling out of the corner of my eye. We then walk up as Jake walks around the direhorse.

"Easy, boy." He says.

"Pale is female," Neytiri corrects him as she soothes the direhorse in Na'vi.

"Okay," Jake says. "Easy girl." He then makes sure she is steady before getting on her. He then sees the little pink things as he grabs the end of the direhorse's neural whip, then his own braid. The cilia from both ends appear, then connect, making the horse jump as she almost knocks Neytiri over. Jake laughs as this happens, I roll my eyes, and do the same, climbing onto the direhorse at my side. Alex does the same as well, with no trouble.

"That is shayalu. The bond," Neytiri explains as she pats the direhorse's neck. I close my eyes a bit as I feel my own pa'li's heartbeat, her breath and her strong legs against my own. I still listen to Neytiri in what she's saying to Jake. "Feel her. Feel her heartbeat, her breath." Jake seems to close his eyes as he listens.

"Feel her strong legs." Jake then opens his eyes.

"You may tell her what to do. Inside," Neytiri says, pointing at her temple. "For now, say where to go." I didn't expect Jake to then command the direhorse,

"Forward." All of a sudden, the direhorse moves at a fast pace, knocking Jake off her back and landing face first into the mud. I laugh and so does Alex and Neytiri. Neytiri then goes to see to the direhorse as Tsu'tey appears on his own with a few hunters as well.

They stop and circle us. Tsu'tey is displeased at the fact that we're riding, not that it should matter to him.

"You should go away," he says in English to Jake as he gets up from the mud and Neytiri walks up, leading the direhorse.

"Nah, you'd miss me," Jake says. "I knew you could speak English." I roll my eyes as I watch Jake start to try and wash the mud off himself. Tsu'tey chuckles scornfully.

"This alien will learn nothing," he says, scoffing. I place a hand on my hip as I watch him. "A rock sees more...look at him." I watch in disgust as Jake wipes at his face then proceeds to try and get his tongue too.

Neytiri just smiles and nudges the warrior's direhorse, getting him and the others following him to leave. She then looks at Jake.

"Again." She says, making me laugh.

"She's got ya whipped," I say. Jake gives me a look. He then turns back to Neytiri.

Later at the RDA base, we're giving out yet another report to the Col., despite what Parker called me hours ago. I'm still utterly pissed at him for that, and I want to wring his neck or feed him to the viperwolves. But I refrain from doing so.

"If you want to hit this thing," I hear Jake say as I keep my hearing aids on, "it's gonna be complicated. Your scan doesn't show the internal structure." He then starts gesturing to where the columns of every root of Hometree is on the hologram. I narrow my eyes.

"There's an outer row of columns," Jake explains. Quaritch nods.

"Uh-huh." He says, intrigued. Jake then continues his report, while Alex and I sit back.

"Real heavy duty. There's a secondary ring here," he gestures to the middle section of the tree, "and an inner ring. There's a core structure like a spiral." He then makes a spiral motion up the tree hologram.

"That's how they move up and down." He concludes. I narrow my eyes further. Quaritch nods.

"We're gonna need accurate scans on every column." He says. Jake nods, and I turn and see Max walking up the stairs. I stop him halfway before Jake or Quaritch can see him.

"Grace isn't happy," he whispers. "We're moving out."

"Where?" I ask softly.

"I'll let her tell you." He says. I nod then walk back to Jake, Alex, Quaritch and Selfridge.

"Roger that." Jake says.

"What else can you tell us about this structure?" Quaritch asks.

"I'm guessing this secondary ring, that's also load-bearing." Jake says.

After the meeting is over, we head on down to see what Grace wants.
