The Na'vi woman I saw before runs up, releasing an arrow into the viperwolf on Jake. Jake gets it off him and is about to attack it when he sees the arrow and looks up, seeing the Na'vi woman as she unleashes a battle cry and unleashes another arrow into another viperwolf. She hits another back with her bow, then two more. She turns with a snarl as another viperwolf knocks her over, but she flips on her back, tumbling before pinning it to the ground and stabbing it twice with her knife. I notice slight tears in her eyes as she does this before she puts her knife back, then swings her bow again, watching them run. She then hisses as a warning once they're gone, and then she turns to us.
I'm still in a tree, in awe of what just happened, my tail flicking curiously. Alex seems to have moved, but not by much. He has blood on his shoulder from one of the viperwolves, but Jake is an idiot. He's just standing there, still bleeding from the viperwolves, but he's on the defensive, his knife out and ready. I watch the princess, finally clicking in my head on who she is.
She is Neytiri te Tskaha Mo'at'ite, the princess of the Omatikaya clan of Na'vi on Pandora. She used to have an older sister before she was killed by humans when they shot up Grace Augustine's school. I remember her now. I watch her as she walks to where the flaming torch is, muttering something in Na'vi before taking the torch and throwing it into the pond.
"Hey, wait! Don't!" Jake says, but Neytiri doesn't listen and throws the torch in the pond before glaring at the three of us. However, when her eyes land on me, they seem to widen some. At first, I think she recognizes me from the video logs my mother would send me to Earth, but then she turns away, not looking like she does. I blink and follow her as she walks to where a fallen viperwolf is, an arrow still stuck in it, but it's still alive. I can hear its whimpers and it makes my heart break. Neytiri then gets on her knees then takes out her knife again as she whispers something in Na'vi as she mercy kills the animal, making its whimpering stop completely. I then turn to watch Jake take the torch, now all burnt out, out of the water, then turns, finally taking in the bioluminescence of the forest. I look around as well, amazed. Every plant, every single one seems to glow with the lights from these plants, and it's very pretty. I then turn to Alex, taking a strip of the jacket I had on me, then wrap it around his shoulder.
"Here," I say to him. "You'll need it. Yah alright?" Alex nods.
"I'll be fine," he says. "Thank you. Are you okay?" I nod. I'm so glad he hasn't asked about that accidental kiss. I'm really happy. I then look to where Jake is.
He's standing a few feet away from Neytiri as she is saying a prayer of the dead in Na'vi to the dead viperwolf at her feet. Oh, this should be good. I can't wait for her to kick his ass and maybe put him in his place.
"Look, I know you probably don't understand this," Jake starts, as Neytiri completely ignores him and continues praying in Na'vi, "but thank you." Neytiri still ignores him and continues speaking Na'vi. Alex blinks.
"He does realize that he's being ignored, right?" He asks me. I nod.
"Aye, but we'll let him figure it out." I tell him. I then stay quiet as Jake repeats the words.
"Thank you." Neytiri then pulls out her arrow, still muttering in Na'vi. Jake's tail flicks behind him.
"That was pretty impressive," he states. Neytiri meets his gaze for a second before she gets up and starts to walk away. "I would have been screwed if you hadn't come along. It was...." He then notices she has ignored him again and has started to walk away from him.
"Hey, wait a second! Hey, where you going? Wait up! Just...hey, slow down." Jake says as he gets up and follows her. Neytiri still ignores him and keeps walking. I roll my eyes and Alex and I follow him, keeping our distance from the Na'vi woman.
"I just wanted to say thanks for killing those things." He says, reaching for her hand. Bad move, Jake. She whirls around and hits him hard with her bow, knocking him to the ground.
"Damn!" He yells, not believing that he just got struck by her.
"Shut up, Jake." I hiss, Alex rolling his eyes in disbelief.
"You done screwed up." He says, as I chuckle. Neytiri steps only a little bit as she aims her bow at him.
"Don't thank," she spits in broken English. "You don't thank for this. This is sad. Very sad only." Jake tries to back away, from her bow, knowing that he'd pissed her off.
"Okay. Okay. I'm sorry," Jake says, trying to appease her. "Whatever I did, I'm sorry." I scoff.
"Excuses." I mutter. Alex shoots me a look.
"All this is your fault," Neytiri says to Jake. "They did not need to die." Jake looks at her in disbelief.
"My fault? They attacked me. How am I the bad guy?" Neytiri cuts him off.
"Your fault!" She lunges forward again.
"Your fault," she emphasizes again. "You're like a baby, making noise, don't know what to do." Jake lifts his hands up in surrender as he touches the end of her bow to get it away from him.
"Fine. Fine," he says, getting up, still having his hands raised. "If you love your little forest friends, why not let them just kill my ass?" I slap a palm to my face. Is he really this dense?? Neytiri doesn't seem to notice, her eyes on Jake.
"What's the thinking?" Jake asks again as Neytiri cocks her head to the side.
"Why save you?" She asks him. Jake nods.
"Yeah, why save me?" Neytiri looks at him, her voice soft as she speaks, having lost the anger in it.
"You have a strong heart, no fear." Jake seems to smile as if he's impressed by her words. But just before he can speak, she spits at him,
"But stupid! Ignorant like a child!" I have to bite back a laugh as she starts walking away, Jake scoffing as if he can't believe he just got dissed by her. He then picks up the fallen torch and follows her.
"Here we go again," I mumble as I follow them, Alex on my heels. "I'm kickin' his ass later."
"If I'm like a child," Jake says as he follows Neytiri, with us behind him. "Then maybe....you can teach me."
"Sky People cannot learn. You do not See." Neytiri retorts.
"Then teach me how to See." Jake says as he follows her across a tree branch.
"No one can teach you to See." She comments back. Jake has to stop for a second to see how high up he is before continuing to follow Neytiri.
"Look, come on, can we talk?" He asks. I roll my eyes in disbelief as Alex and I stay on his heels. "Like, where'd you learn to speak English? Dr. Augustine's school?" He almost falls, and Neytiri grabs him to balance him but as a result, he loses the torch. Stupid idiot.
"You're like a baby." Neytiri says as she lets go of his arm and then speaks in Na'vi again.
"I need your help," Jake says to her. I roll my eyes. That's an understatement. Alex nudges me and I give him a smile.
"You should not be here," Neytiri says, displeased.
"Okay, take me with you." He says.
"No!" Neytiri says. "Go back." She turns and starts to walk away but Jake insists on following her.
"No." He says. Neytiri turns around and pushes his shoulder with her hand.
"Kehe!" She says in Na'vi. "Go back." She then looks up, seeming distracted. I look up as well with a soft gasp escaping me. Alex and Jake follow our gazes as the woodsprites start to float in. Jake swats one away making Neytiri tell him to stop in Na'vi.
"No!" She says sharply, grabbing his arm. "Atokirina!" I then watch as some of the woodsprites float in and land on Jake. She then repeats the word softly as we watch as many of them land on him. One lands in Jake's open palm and he looks at it.
"What....?" He asks as more of them land on his body, mostly his wounds and upper torso. "What are they?"
"Seeds of the Sacred Tree," Neytiri answers. "Very pure spirits." She is in awe as she continues to watch this.
"Uh-huh." Jake says, unmoving. Neytiri then turns to me.
"You!" She says, a smile on her face. "Come with me!" I blink but I follow her anyways. Alex doesn't even look skeptical, which doesn't surprise me. We watch as the atokirina float away.
"What was that all about?" Jake asks as Neytiri is muttering in Na'vi. She then says one word that doesn't comprehend with Jake at first.
"Come," she says. "Come!" She takes his hand then leads us deeper into the bioluminescent foliage.
"Where are we going?" Jake asks, but Neytiri doesn't answer, just keeps moving. Jake then starts hitting every bioluminescent plant we come across, liking the glow it makes. I roll my eyes.
"Come." Neytiri says again, making Jake stop what he's doing and continue to follow her. Alex and I stay on his heels as we cross a different branch.
"What's your name?" Jake asks, just as a bolas hits his feet, making him fall.
"Shit!" He exclaims as he falls. Neytiri gasps, and races back as I roll my eyes again. Alex joins me as we hear hooves.
Direhorses come marching in through the foliage, as Jake takes out his knife, but upon hearing the war cries from the warriors and the arrows aimed at him, he drops the knife. Neytiri jumps down and yells.
"Calm people, calm!" She says. She then turns as the leader of this hunting party climbs off his direhorse then walks up.
"What are you doing, Tsu'tey?" Neytiri asks him. The Na'vi now known to us as Tsu'tey looks at us with scorn and malice.
"These demons are forbidden here." He says, his eyes landing on me in scrutiny as Alex snarls. He stands in front of me protectively, making me blink my eyes rapidly.
"There has been a sign," Neytiri says to him. "This is a matter for the Tsahik." Tsu'tey looks at us for a moment before saying in Na'vi as he walks back to his direhorse,
"Bring them." Jake tries to walk forward, only to be flanked by the warriors, one of them pulling a knife to his braid.
"What's going on?" He asks as Tsu'tey yells something in Na'vi and the warriors take off, leading us back to their clan.
"What's happening? Ah!" Jake yells in pain as we follow them.
"Jake, shut up." I snap.
"I'm not looking to die today," Alex says. "So for once, my friend, shut up and listen."
A/N: And that's the end of this one!!! Next chapter is the meeting of the clan, the clan leader, Eytukan and Mo'at, the Tsahik. But for now, I'm taking a break. See you!!
