IF THERE WAS ONE thing that the Hagrid family never had, it was secrets. At least not between one another.
Mostly due to Rubeus Hagrid' inability to keep a secret. Leading to the familial rule between him and his daughter. To never keep a secret from the other.
Annette was woken suddenly by her father bursting into her room.
She rubbed her eyes with a curled up fist. Blinking a few times to focus on the image before her.
Her father held a messily made cake— no doubt homemade. He was just in the doorway- unable to fit through without turning sideways before entering.
In decorative frosting read, 'Happy Second Year!' The writing was askew with a slight smudge in certain areas. The cake was covered in black frosting allowing the yellow writing to pop.
"Dad?"
"Yea?"
"Are you going to do this every year?" She asked, fully aware of the answer.
"Ay! It's not every year you move on up," Hagrid exclaimed with clear excitement for her.
"Well actually I do—" she mumbled, trying to reason with his insanity.
"'Nough about that. Blow out the candles! I been waiting all morning for ya," Hagrid prompted the young girl.
"When did you make this?" She questioned as she finally sat up, getting ready to blow out the candles flickering flames.
Fang let out a little huff as she consequently disturbed his sleep. Moving his head off her legs as she moved and curling up on the bottom half of her bed
"Last night. I reckon about 2am?" He answered. Not even bothering to try and comfort the dog.
"Good Godrick. Why?" She said, quickly blowing out the candles to speed up the process.
"Because you're headin' on up in the world. It's gonna be your second year, I remember mine like it was yesterday." He sighed whistfully.
She decided not to comment on it and hummed, grabbing her wand off her nightstand.
Fang finally decided to stop sulking over his disturbed slumber and got up with her.
They all headed into the kitchen where Hagrid set down the cake and began cutting slices.
He went to get the old muggle camera, he had picked up a few years back. As he did, she stuck her finger out and scooped a small bit of frosting. Leaning down to let Fang lick it off.
The dog happily did so with Annette quickly straightening out when Hagrid turned around with the camera in hand.
"How do I get this blasted— Annie help," Hagrid said, his large fingers making it too difficult to press the buttons.
"I got it, don't worry." Annette quickly retorted, taking the camera from him.
Positioning it quickly in a selfie mode, putting on a smile.
With a quick little flash and shutter, the picture was taken.
"Okay! Picture taken," She smiled at her father.
Hagrid smiled back at the young girl. The fireplace cackled in the background.
"Oh dear, Would you mind grabbing some more fire wood?" Hagrid asked her.
She agreed to chop some more fire wood, "after cake though."
Unfortunately the poor girl had no idea of what was to come that following year. She knew nothing of the chamber of secrets opening within the next few months. Though she may know more than originally considered by her young mind.
