Chapter17

Hiccup's P.O.V.

I carry Astrid to a rock near the mini waterfall and set her down gently. "Where are we?" she asks.

"Open your eyes," I order and a moment later she gasps as she looks around.

"W-..." she breathes.

"Speechless? I know. I was too first time I came across it," I tell her, sitting next to her on the slightly damp rock.

Astrid's P.O.V.

Hiccup was right. I was speechless. This was beyond words. Why did he bring me here? When will he give up? "How long are we going to be here?" I ask.

"Well, lets do some math. Time for him to get here, time for me to give you the tour, time to let you relax; I'd say about two hours," Hiccup tells me. He then hands me my phone.

"Who's 'he'? And when did you get this?" I ask, taking it.

"I was carrying you a lot today...I may or may not have slipped it out of your pocket," he says, "Text whoever you need to to tell them you'll be late coming home." I pull up my dads contact and my thumb hovers over the call button.

"Can I call instead of text?" I ask and Hiccup nods.

A: Hey, dad. Um, what time's my curfew?
D: 10:30. Why?
A: What time is it now?
D: Looks like 8:45. Where are you?
A: I'm not entirely sure but I may be late coming home.
D: Are you alright?
A: Yeah, I, um- I'm just hanging out with someone.
D: Who?
A: Someone from school.
D: Do you know their name?
A: His name's Hiccup. We're working on a...project.
D: Hiccup?! Isn't he the one who made out with you?!
A: Uh, yes, that's how I remember him best.
D: Don't let him near you, and don't be alone in a room with him. You understand me?!
A: Yes, sir. Don't wait up for me.
D: Oh, I will wait up for you. No one makes out with my girl against her will!
A: Dad, I don't know when I'll be home. You have that meeting tomorrow, you should go to bed.
D: Don't try to parent me. I'm supposed to be parenting you.
A: And you're doing a great job. It's just, I can take care of myself and it's a big meeting for you, early in the morning.
D: *Sigh* you're right. I love you.
A: I love you too.

I hang up and Hiccup holds his hand out for my phone. Not wanting to know what he'd do if I didn't, I handed it over. He tucks it into his back pocket before letting out a sharp whistle, sending birds fluttering into the air from the trees. I look at him in confusion before a black wolf runs from the trees and attacks him as I scream.

"Toothless!" Hiccup laughs as I stare in shocked confusion. I look closer to see that the wolf was...licking him?! Hiccup pushes the animal away before it turns toward me, making me freeze as it tilts it's head. "Astrid, this is Toothless. Toothless, Astrid," Hiccup says as the wolf slowly walks toward me.

"What's it doing?" I ask as it gently sniffs my half leg.

"Seeing if he recognizes you," Hiccup says. I see Toothless look at his tail and I follow his gaze to see it really short for a wolf. Almost as if he lost it. He then noses my hand and I slowly raise it before petting his head.

"What kind of wolf is he?" I ask, looking at his vibrant green eyes.

"He's not a full wolf. He's half wolf, half unknown," Hiccup tells me, "And check this out. Toothless. Lets see the teeth." At his command, Toothless opens his mouth to show that his fangs were missing. "I have no idea how he lost them," Hiccup says.

Two hours later

Hiccup's P.O.V.

Two hours goes by like that. Astrid and I played with Toothless, sat by a fire, talked. About school and stuff, not the topic I wanted to discuss. She seemed more relaxed though. I guess she liked nature or something. One thing was for sure: even with me so close to her, she seemed more at ease than when we were in the mall.  We were now laying on the grass, Toothless pressing his back against Astrid's side as we star gazed. I was about to ask her something but paused as I heard soft snores coming from her. I sit up and look at her to find her arm wrapped around Toothless, as if he was a teddy bear or something. I smirk and gently lift her arm before Toothless silently crawls away.

"See you later Toothless," I whisper as he runs for the trees. I gently pick Astrid up bridal-style and walk to the trees, in the direction of my car. I quietly lay her down in the back seat and drive to my house.

Time skip

Astrid's P.O.V.

I woke up but didn't open my eyes as I stretched. The warmth of my comforters made me snuggle deeper into them and my back jerks as I stretch, making my legs thrash slightly. Once I'm comfortable, I lay still, hugging the blanket. Then, I feel a gentle hand brush my bangs behind my ear before a finger softly taps my temple.

"Mmmh, Daddy, I don't wanna go to school!" I whine, hugging the blanket tighter as I bury myself in it. I hear an unfamiliar, yet familiar, chuckle sound behind me, making my eyes shoot open in shock and fear. I look over my shoulder to see a shirtless Hiccup smirking at me, his lower body under the blanket. I scream and check to make sure I have clothes on before throwing the blanket off me and getting out of the bed, only to fall to the floor again when I try to run to the window. I press my back to the wall as I notice that my leg was still off.

"What the heck?! What did you do to me?!" I shout at Hiccup who just rolled on the bed laughing.

"Oh, you should have seen your face!" he laughs breathlessly. When he finally calms down, he sighs as he lays on his belly, his head hanging over the edge of the mattress so he can look at me. "Now what makes you think I did something to you?" he asks.

"For one thing, I'm in pajama clothes and when I fell asleep, I was in a dress!" I snap.

"My dad has maids. They changed you. You're a very sound sleeper," he says calmly. My breathing doesn't slow as I stare at him, and my heart doesn't give me any mercy.

"I need my bag," I say...or more like whimper.

"What?" he asks, confusion sparking his eyes.

"Please tell me you have my bag; I need my bag!" I whisper hoarsely, trying to relieve the pain in my chest by pressing my palm to my sternum. Hiccup jumps off the bed and walks to the closet before pulling out my bag and bringing it to me. I snatch it from him and dig around before finding the prescription bottle and taking out three of the oval white drugs.

"What's that?" Hiccup asks as I down the pills.

"Hang on," I say shakily as I wait for them to kick in. After a few minutes, my heart stops beating for a split second before finding it's rhythm again.

"You alright?" Hiccup asks as he crouches in front of me.

"Yeah, I'm, uh, I'm fine. Sorry," I say, putting the pills back in my bag.

"What did you take?" he asks.

"They help me calm down. Don't worry, they're prescribed," I tell him and try to stand up before remembering I had only half a leg. "Can I have my leg back yet?" I ask and he chuckles.

"No, not yet," he says before picking me up bridal style and taking me back to the bed.

"Don't you dare!" I order and he pauses.

"Well, my arms are gonna get tired if I don't," he says, clouding my mind with confusion. He smirks and I yelp as he flips me onto the bed. Great, he's one of those kidnappers.
