Chapter 22
Astrid's P.O.V.
I froze before not controlling my body as I kissed Hiccup back. I had no idea what I was doing, but I wrapped my arms around his neck as he held my head in place. "Mm," he moaned softly as we massaged each others lips.
I let out a small grunt of pain as a light switch poked into my back. Next thing I know, Hiccup pulled me away from the wall and picked me up, making me yelp in surprise. He carried me to the living room and sat on the couch with me straddling his lap. I paused as he started rubbing his hands up and down my back, as gently as if he were petting a kitten. It sent goosebumps up my spine and I pulled myself closer to him. We kissed for a few more minutes before slowly, and gradually pulling away.
"How do you do that?" I ask, looking in his soft eyes.
"Do what?" he asks.
"One minute you're talking to me in a way that turns my blood cold, and the next it's like I never want you to leave," I murmur. He smiled softly.
"Isn't that the mark of a sole mate?" he asked quietly.
"I don't remember my dad telling me any stories like that with my mom," I say before he chuckled. He then cupped my cheek and leaned forward before pecking my lips, stroking my cheekbone with his thumb. He then took my hand and looked at it before lifting his gaze to mine.
"How often do you punch that bag until your knuckles show?" he asks. I looked at him in shock before he lowered his gaze slightly. "I looked through the windows. I got worried about you," he explained.
"Just when...I, um..." I swallowed back my voice as I got too close to answering. He looked at me expectantly before I shook my head and tried to stand up. "N-No, you-you don't need to know," I say as I push myself up from the couch and walk for the basement.
"Astrid, wait up," he says, walking after me. I suddenly got a small glimpse of the clock in the kitchen before running back and ramming into his chest.
"Hiccup, you have to get out of here," I say quickly before pulling him to the door.
"What? Why?" he asked.
"Because my dad's going to be home any minute," I hiss, "He can't see you, you can't see him."
"Well why not? I wanna meet him," he says.
"Too bad! You can't!" I almost shouted.
"Why not?" he asks.
"Hiccup," I grab his shoulders, "You have to listen to me, and trust me, when I say you can't."
He smirked. "You said I can't do a lot of things but I did them," he chuckles.
"Please, just-- Get outta here! Please, before he gets back, just please, please, please!" I begged.
"One condition," he says and I sigh in frustration.
"Anything! But tell me tomorrow, and get out of here!" I shove him out the door and push him toward his car before he looked at me and jogged down the driveway. Just as he turned the corner, my dad pulled up and got out of the car.
"Astrid, what'd you do with your hands?" he asks as he walks up to the door.
"Punching bag," I say and he sighs before kissing my forehead and going inside, his whistle jingling around his neck. I squared my shoulders nervously as he stopped at the table I put the broken mirror on.
"Something I should know?" he asks as I walk in and close the door.
"I love you?" I say uncertainly.
Next day...
I walked through the door of the school before a hand shot across my mouth and someone dragged me out of the commons. I went limp before the person slowed down and tried to get a firmer hold on me. "Come on, Astrid, don't be like that," Hiccup's voice said in my ear. I found my footing before letting him usher me to a storage closet, and that's when I started to fight. I tried to twist myself from his grip, but he was too strong as he forced me into the closet and closed the door behind him. "Astrid, would you calm down?" he chuckled lightly as he released me and I shot to the other side of the closet.
"No! I know what you do to girls in storage closets! I might have made out with you yesterday, but no way am I letting you come near me in here!" I snapped as I pressed my back to the wall.
"Okay, okay. I don't really need to be near you for this...it's just a perk," he said with a small smirk as he took a step toward me. I lifted my metal foot and got ready to kick him before he paused. "Astrid, come on, I just wanna talk," he said.
"About what?"
"I still have a condition to discuss with you," he said. I paused.
"Damn, I shouldn't have said anything," I whined as I dropped my foot.
"Relax, Astrid, you just gotta tell me how good your acting is," he said before I looked at him.
"My acting?" I repeated and he nodded. "I don't know, not bad? I mean I pretended to like my friends when I went here in my youth."
"Have you kept up the practice?" he asked.
"I convinced my parents that my anger issues were under control," I told him with crossed arms.
"Alright, you got the part, congratulations," he said.
"What?"
"I need you to pretend to be my girlfriend-" I cut him off by swinging my metal foot at his head. He grabbed the ankle and redirected it. I did a recovery spin before throwing my fist at his jaw. He grabbed my fist and spun me around before crossing my wrists over my chest as he pulled me back against his. "You didn't even let me finish, that's very rude," he scolded.
"I don't care," I snapped before trying to stomp on his foot. He moved his foot before mine could break it, and twisted his leg around mine before spinning me around and pinning me to the wall, holding my legs against it with his.
"Astrid, just calm down. You said so yourself, you don't want me to leave," he said.
"You mean right before I shoved you out the door?" I asked.
"Come on, you owe me for leaving without a fight," he said. I hesitated before sighing.
"What do I have to do as your girlfriend?"
