Chapter 11
Astrid's P.O.V.
After ten minutes, Coach blows the whistle and I skid to a stop at his side as everyone else finishes the lap they're on before collapsing at our feet. Although, I'm surprised to see Hiccup only leaning over and propping himself up on his knees, catching his breath. I close my eyes and relish the feeling of the cool breeze, drying the sweat from my brow. I tilt my head back a little in order for the scents on the wind to blow into my nose as I breathe. I open my eyes to see Hiccup doing a similar thing only he had a small smile on his face. Then, the awful memories of this morning flash though my mind. I had avoided him all day, for once dreading PE. My dad blows his whistle again before letting it fall out of his mouth and hit his chest.
"Alright, you sweaty pigs, Astrid is gonna lead you in the cool down run and stretches. If she catches any of you making cracks or jokes, and if you do not follow her orders, you will practice Track Week after school," he orders and they all groan, Snotlout punching the asphalt of the track.
"Yes, sir," my eyes widen as Hiccup says those two words, obediently. Everyone's heads turn to him as he gets behind me, waiting for orders. I was extremely uncomfortable with that, even with my father present, so I side stepped closer to Coach. I hear Hiccup stifle a snicker and anger starts to dance in my veins in the place of the fear.
"Alright, everyone! On your feet!" I shout and they get behind Hiccup in a line. I snap my gaze around to glare at them and Coach walks across the track to his clip board. My gaze lands on Hiccup at my shoulder. "Try to keep up," I tell him before jogging up the track.
During math.
Astrid's P.O.V.
I walked out of the office after I finished signing out for the rest of the day. I freeze as I see Hiccup walking towards me, his strides confident while his eyes shimmered and danced with venom and danger. He gets less than 2 ft away from me and I run down the hall, towards the north parking lot. I hear his feet running after me,faster and faster as we draw near the door. I hit the floor harder, almost tempted to run through a room with a lot of obstacles. That way, he'd get delayed long enough for me to get my shoe off. I can hear him chuckle as he gains on me. I finally reach the door and hit it so hard, it shot open, no resistance. I slam the door behind me and almost get delayed by the next one as I hear Hiccup slam it open again. I shoot out the next door and press the button to unlock my car, his footsteps not wavering behind me.
He wants to kill me! Those 5 words run through my head as I try to loose him in the maze of the cars.
"Astrid!" Hiccup screams as he draws closer to me. Crap he's close! I finally reach my car and get in before locking the doors as quickly as I can. I take a minute to catch my breath, studying the parking lot as Hiccup is no where in sight. Suddenly, he pops up and slams his hands on the passenger side window. I scream as he yells, "Astrid! I just wanna talk!" It was so loud, it sounded as if he's in the car. I start the engine and drive over the speed limit until I reach my house. I screech into the driveway and hit the back of my head on the head rest as I come to a stop. I pause for a moment, catching my breath which was stolen from me by fear. I run to the kitchen and lean over the sink before my body is griped by a painful spasm, sending undigested food and stomach acid up my throat. Second day in a row, I think as I wash out my mouth, Should I tell someone? I shake my head to try and relief the pain that was throbbing through it. Last time I felt pain like this, it was when I woke up in the hospital bed right after the crash...
Next day
I lay my head on the table as the room spins around me, not letting me see any of my class mates when they aren't blurred. What was Hiccup so mad about yesterday? Was it because I kicked him? He shouldn't have attacked me in the first place! I'm broken from my thoughts as Calica, Juviani, Jessica, Clicker, Misty, and Ruffnut walk up to my table and sit down. I glare at them before seeing the guys walking up too, Hiccup in the lead. They sit down as well and I lean back in my chair in confusion. "What's going on?" I ask.
"You're the new Top Girl. Didn't you know that?" Calica asks.
"No. What happened to Heather?" I ask.
"She was out voted."
I stare around the group before I remember what I heard in the class and what Calica told me yesterday. "You said I didn't have to be in a group. What does this look like?" I ask, gesturing around the table.
"Hiccup said you wanted us to sit with you..." Clicker says and I glare at said boy.
"If you hear of anyone with a problem I can fix, send them to me. I'll be in the library," I say before standing and excusing myself. I spent most of the day in the library, getting passes from my teachers, because I didn't want to risk being put in a group project. The only class I didn't get excused from was PE. I pranced into the locker room and winced as I heard my leg squeak. I changed before going into the gym, seeing the guys of the class already near the door.
"No warm ups today," Coach calls and I nod before joining the group.
