Chapter 1

5 years later

15-year-old Astrid glared at the door of the school she would've once been more than happy to walk through. She pulls her hood up and a smirk appears on her face as she marches through the door to be greeted with the loud chatter, of her old classmates, in the commons. She closed her eyes and listened to the voices, her smirk turning to a smile. She had kept the act up long enough, and now she was back. Watch out Berk High. Astrid's back. All eyes turned to her as she stood there, examining her old territory. Her smile widens as Heather walks up to her, the rest of the group behind her. She hadn't seen her friends in years. "Hi, I'm Heather, this is Ruffnut, Clicker, Calica, Jessica, Misty, and Juviani. What's your name?" Heather says and Astrid smirks. They didn't recognize her. She shrugs.

"Lets see if you can try to guess my name, over the next while? Sound fun? Good," she says before walking to find her locker as the bell rings. She wasn't gonna get roped up there again. She loved her girls, don't get her wrong, but she never felt comfortable in that clique. She had to mind their feelings and be careful about what she said. She had to hang out with them, even though she didn't want to leave the house. They'd come to her. And if she tried to get out of it or decline, they'd guilt-trip her until she agreed. She'd always wanted the life of a loner. Boy am I glad I don't have PE for about a month yet, Astrid thought as she looked at her schedule.

By the end of the day, Astrid had learned that Heather replaced her as Top Girl, and almost every girl in the school was a slut. Well, except the girls in the group that weren't Heather. They had only one or two boyfriends since Astrid was gone. Heather on the other hand, has made out with every boy in the school. And Hiccups old group had turned into play boys. Astrid sat on her bike, staring ahead with raised eye brows as she tried to figure out how her best friend could change so much in only five years. Snotlout even tried to hit on and make out with her. She of course gave him the beating of his life, teaching everyone to try to get permission before crashing lips with her. She shook her head to clear it and pushed off, riding down a bike trail until she reached her house, not far out of town but still outside. She waved to her neighbor as she parked her bike in the garage. She walked inside and threw her bag to the side, "Whoo!" Astrids mom comes from the kitchen.

"Good first day back? Did your friends miss you?" she asks.

"Nope! They don't recognize me and it rocks!" Astrid cheers as she flops down on the couch. "Oh, and you remember Snotlout No-One-Cares-Bout? He tried to make out with me," she says as she pulls out her phone.

"Oh, I'm sorry," her mom says.

"What are you sorry about? I gave him the beating of his life, I can finally be the loner I wanted to be, no one knows my name, they all call me Mystery! It's turned into my dream school life!" she says, and adds to herself, "I'll be back ontop soon, don't worry." At that moment, her dad walked through the door.

"Dad! When I have PE in a few weeks, I need you to call me Mystery, okay? Thanks!" With that, she ran upstairs to her room.

"I'm gonna call her Astrid," he says to his wife who sighed.

One month later

Astrid wallked through the door and sat in her seat, waiting for History to start. "Have you heard from Astrid lately?" She heard Clicker ask Heather.

"No, she stoped texting me about a week before Mystery showed up. I'm getting kinda worried," Heather says, making a small frown show up underneath Astrid's hood.

"How's being Top Girl treating you?" Ruffnut asks.

"Ugh, I have no idea how Astrid managed to do it. She had to set trends for the grade, she had to get along with everyone, she had to be a role model," Heather said tiredly.

"I'll take your place," Ruff says.

"That's worse. You setting the trends will drive this school into the ground. I'd really just rather Astrid do it. She seemed to know exactly what she's doing," Heather sighs.

"Mystery, hood off," the teacher said and Astrid glared before obeying. After History finally ended, she made her way to the gym, for some reason excited. Maybe her friends will recognize her when she competes. She heads to the locker room and finds her old locker, finding it empty. She pauses before Claica walks by.

"Hey, Calica, is anyone using this locker?" she asks her old friend. Calica's eyes flash with memories before she shakes her head.

"Not anymore," she says distractedly before walking away. Astrid changes before putting her clothes in her locker and going out to the gym. Her dad starts the warm up music as she opens the door to the girls locker room. This song happened to be "I'm Blue". The moment was just perfect: upbeat music, first time in years stepping foot into the gym in her PE uniform, adrenaline of determination; she just had to. As the music played, she walked slowly out of the small hallway, leading to the LR. As she steps into the gym, she hears fearful gasps from the guys as they paused in their warm ups.

"No way," Snotlout breathed. They recognized her. She smirked before starting her laps, gaining speed everytime she passes the line that marked the end of a lap and the begining of a new one. Once finished with her laps, she tried to ignore the stares she was earning as she started her jumping jacks and sit ups. Once everyone was strethed out, they stood in a line, waiting for Coach to tell them what they were doing today.

"Okay, today we'll be playing dodge ball. Here are the team leaders: Mystery, Calica, Snotlout. Four people to a group. Mystery, you're picking first. What's your teams name going to be?" Coach asks.

"Hm, I'll pick Heather, Clicker, and Juviani. As for our team name. Deadly Nadders," Heather and the girls gasp quietly as Astrid says that. Her father simply writes the team name on the board for recording score.

"Snotlout," Coach says and said boy thinks for a moment.

"I'll take my guys," he says and they whoop and holler. "Team name is," he pauses, memories flaring in his eyes, and Astrid guessed he was trying to decide weather to keep it Night Fury, like when Hiccup was here, or change it. He sighs, "Monstrous Nightmares." Coach writes it on the board before turning to Calica.

"Taking my girls. We'll be Timberjacks," she says but Coach was already writing it.

"Okay! Deadly Nadders and Monstrous Nightmares!" Coach orders and the two teams go onto the court.
